Psalm 48

1 Ein Lied; ein Psalm. Von den Kindern Korahs. Groß ist der HERR und hoch gelobt in der Stadt unsres Gottes, auf seinem heiligen Berge.

A Song; a Psalm. Of the sons of Korah. Great is Jehovah, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the hill of his holiness.

2 Schön erhebt sich der Berg Zion, die Freude des ganzen Landes; auf der Seite gegen Mitternacht ist die Stadt des großen Königs.

Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, [on] the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

3 Gott ist in ihren Palästen bekannt als eine feste Burg.

God is known in her palaces as a high fortress.

4 Denn siehe, Könige haben sich verbündet und sind miteinander vorübergezogen.

For behold, the kings assembled themselves, they passed by together;

5 Sie haben sich verwundert, als sie solches sahen; sie erschraken und flohen davon.

They saw, — so they marvelled; they were troubled, they fled in consternation:

6 Zittern ergriff sie daselbst, Angst wie eine Gebärende.

Trembling took hold upon them there; anguish, as of a woman in travail.

7 Durch den Ostwind zerbrichst du Tarsisschiffe.

With an east wind thou hast broken the ships of Tarshish.

8 Wie wir's gehört, so haben wir's gesehen in der Stadt des HERRN der Heerscharen, in der Stadt unsres Gottes. Gott wird sie erhalten bis in Ewigkeit. (Pause)

As we have heard, so have we seen, in the city of Jehovah of hosts, in the city of our God: God doth establish it for ever. (Selah)

9 Wir gedenken, o Gott, deiner Gnade inmitten deines Tempels.

We have thought, O God, of thy loving-kindness, in the midst of thy temple.

10 O Gott, wie dein Name, also reicht auch dein Ruhm bis an die Enden der Erde; deine Rechte ist voller Gerechtigkeit.

According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.

11 Der Berg Zion freut sich, die Töchter Judas frohlocken um deiner Gerichte willen.

Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.

12 Geht rings um Zion, umwandelt sie, zählt ihre Türme!

Walk about Zion, and go round about her: count the towers thereof;

13 Beachtet ihre Bollwerke, durchgehet ihre Paläste, auf daß ihr es den Nachkommen erzählet,

Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces: that ye may tell it to the generation following.

14 daß dieser Gott unser Gott ist immer und ewig; er führt uns über den Tod hinweg!

For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide until death.
