Psalm 47

1 Dem Vorsänger. Von den Kindern Korahs. Ein Psalm. Klatscht in die Hände, ihr Völker alle! Jauchzet Gott mit fröhlichem Schall!

You people all [over the world], clap your hands for joy! Shout joyfully to [praise] God!

2 Denn der HERR, der Höchste, ist zu fürchten, ein großer König über die ganze Erde.

Yahweh, who is much greater than any other god, is awesome; he is the king who rules over all the world!

3 Er wird die Völker unter uns zwingen und die Nationen unter unsre Füße.

He enabled us to defeat [the armies of] the people-groups [that lived in Canaan].

4 Er wird uns unser Erbteil erwählen, den Stolz Jakobs, den er geliebt. (Pause)

He chose for us this land where we now live; we Israeli people [MTY], whom he loves, are proud that we own this land.

5 Gott ist aufgefahren mit Jauchzen, der HERR mit dem Schall der Posaune.

God has gone up [into his temple]. The people shouted joyfully and blew trumpets as Yahweh went up.

6 Lobsinget, lobsinget Gott! Lobsinget, lobsinget unserm König!

Sing songs to praise our God! Sing to praise him [DOU]! Sing to God, our king!

7 Denn Gott ist König der ganzen Erde; lobsinget andächtig!

God is the one who rules over everything in the world; sing a psalm to him!

8 Gott herrscht über die Völker, Gott sitzt auf seinem heiligen Thron.

God sits on his sacred throne as he rules over the people of [all] ethnic groups.

9 Die Edlen der Völker haben sich versammelt zum Volk des Gottes Abrahams; denn Gott gehören die Schilde der Erde; er ist sehr erhaben.

The rulers of those people-groups gather as God’s people, the people [descended] from Abraham, [do]. But God has more power than the weapons/shields [of all the kings] on the earth; (he is greatly honored/people honor him) everywhere.
