Psalm 20

1 Dem Vorsänger. Ein Psalm Davids. Der HERR antworte dir am Tage der Not, der Name des Gottes Jakobs schütze dich!

For the leader. A psalm of David. The Lord answer you in the day of distress, the name of the Jacob’s God protect you,

2 Er sende dir Hilfe vom Heiligtum und stärke dich aus Zion;

sending you help from the temple, out of Zion supporting you.

3 er gedenke aller deiner Speisopfer, und dein Brandopfer achte er für fett. (Pause)

All your meal-offerings may he remember, your burnt-offerings look on with favor. (Selah)

4 Er gebe dir, was dein Herz begehrt, und erfülle alle deine Ratschläge!

May he grant you your heart’s desire, and bring all your plans to pass.

5 Wir wollen jauchzen ob deinem Heil und im Namen unsres Gottes die Fahne entfalten! Der HERR erfülle alle deine Bitten!

We will shout then for joy at your victory, and rejoice in the name of our God. May the Lord grant your every request.

6 Nun habe ich erfahren, daß der HERR seinem Gesalbten hilft, daß er ihm antwortet von seinem himmlischen Heiligtum mit den hilfreichen Taten seiner Rechten.

Now I am sure that the Lord will help his anointed. From his temple in heaven he will answer by his mighty triumphant right hand.

7 Jene rühmen sich der Wagen und diese der Rosse; wir aber des Namens des HERRN, unsres Gottes.

Some in chariots are strong, some in horses; but our strength is the Lord our God.

8 Sie sind niedergesunken und gefallen; wir aber erhoben uns und blieben stehen.

They will totter and fall, while we rise and stand firm.

9 O HERR, hilf dem König! Antworte uns am Tage, da wir rufen!

Give victory, Lord, to the king, and answer us when we call.
