Psalm 10
1 HERR, warum trittst du so ferne, verbirgst dich in Zeiten der Not?
Yahweh, (why are you far away [from us]?/it seems that you are far away [from us].) [RHQ] Why do you not pay attention when we have troubles [RHQ]?
2 Vom Übermut des Gottlosen wird dem Elenden bang; möchten doch von den Ränken diejenigen betroffen werden, welche sie ausgeheckt haben!
People who are proud gladly cause poor people to suffer. So [cause what they do to others to happen to them]! May they be caught in the [same] traps that they set to catch others [MET]!
3 Denn der Gottlose rühmt sich der Gelüste seines Herzens, und der Habsüchtige verwünscht, verlästert den HERRN.
They brag about the [evil] things that they want to do. They praise people who seize from others things that do not belong to them, and they curse you, Yahweh.
4 Der Gottlose in seinem Hochmut fragt nicht nach [Gott]; alle seine Pläne sind ohne Gott.
Wicked people are very proud. As a result, they do not (seek help from/are not concerned about) God; they do not even think that God exists.
5 Seine Unternehmungen gelingen immer; deine Gerichte sind fern von ihm; er schnaubt alle seine Feinde an.
But [it seems that] they succeed in everything that they do. They do not think that they will be condemned/punished for their deeds, and they (sneer at/make fun of) their enemies.
6 Er spricht in seinem Herzen: «Ich werde niemals wanken; das geht stets so fort, daß mich kein Unglück trifft!»
They think, “Nothing bad will happen to us! We will never have troubles!”
7 Sein Mund ist voll Fluchens, Trug und Trotz; unter seiner Zunge ist Jammer und Not.
When they talk [MTY], they are always cursing, lying, and threatening to harm others. They constantly say [MTY] evil things that show that they are ready to do cruel things to others.
8 Er liegt auf der Lauer hinter der Mauer, im Verborgenen den Unschuldigen zu ermorden; seine Augen spähen den Wehrlosen aus.
They hide in villages, ready to (ambush/suddenly attack) and kill people who (are innocent/have done nothing wrong). They constantly search for people who will not be able to (resist/defend themselves) [when they are attacked].
9 Er lauert im Verborgenen wie ein Löwe im dichten Gebüsch; er lauert, daß er den Schwachen fange; er fängt den Schwachen und schleppt ihn fort in seinem Netz.
They are like [MET] lions that crouch down and hide, waiting to pounce on their prey. They are like hunters that catch their prey with a net and then drag it away.
10 Er duckt sich, kauert nieder, und durch seine starken Pranken fallen die Wehrlosen.
Just like helpless animals are crushed, people who cannot defend themselves are killed because wicked people are very strong.
11 Er spricht in seinem Herzen: «Gott hat es vergessen, er hat sein Angesicht verborgen, er sieht es nie!»
Wicked people say, “God will not pay any attention [to what we do]. His eyes are covered, so he never sees anything.”
12 HERR, stehe auf! Erhebe, o Gott, deine Hand! Vergiß der Elenden nicht!
Yahweh God, arise [and help us] Punish [IDM] those wicked people! And do not forget those who are suffering!
13 Warum soll der Frevler Gott lästern und in seinem Herzen sprechen, du fragst nicht darnach?
Wicked people revile you [RHQ] continually. They think, “God will never punish us!”
14 Du hast es wohl gesehen! Denn du gibst auf Beleidigung und Kränkung acht, um es in deine Hand zu nehmen; der Wehrlose überläßt es dir, der du der Waisen Helfer bist!
But you see the trouble and the distress [that they cause]. People who are suffering expect that you will help them; and you help orphans, [also].
15 Zerbrich den Arm des Gottlosen! Und wenn du nach der Schuld des Bösewichts forschest, solltest du sie nicht herausfinden?
(Break the arms/Destroy the power) of wicked [DOU] people! Continue to pursue and punish them for the wicked things that they do, until they stop doing those things.
16 Der HERR ist König immer und ewig; die Heiden sind verschwunden aus seinem Land!
Yahweh, you are our king forever, but [wicked] nations will disappear from the earth.
17 Das Verlangen der Elenden hast du, o HERR, gehört; du achtest auf ihr Herz, leihst ihnen dein Ohr,
You have listened to afflicted/suffering people when they cry out to you. You hear them [when they pray], and you encourage [IDM] them.
18 daß du der Waise und dem Unterdrückten Recht schaffest, daß kein Mensch von der Erde fortan Schrecken verbreite.
You show that orphans and oppressed people have not done things that are wrong, with the result that human beings will not cause people to be terrified any more.
