Sprueche 6
1 Mein Sohn, hast du dich für deinen Nächsten verbürgt, für einen Fremden dich durch Handschlag verpflichtet;
My son, if thou art become surety for thy neighbour, if thou hast stricken thy hands for a stranger,
2 bist du durch ein mündliches Versprechen gebunden, gefangen durch die Reden deines Mundes,
Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.
3 so tue doch das, mein Sohn: Rette dich; denn du bist in die Hand deines Nächsten geraten! Darum gehe hin, wirf dich vor ihm nieder und bestürme deinen Nächsten.
Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, seeing thou art come into the hand of thy neighbour; go, humble thyself, and importune thy neighbour.
4 Gönne deinen Augen keinen Schlaf und deinen Augenlidern keinen Schlummer!
Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.
5 Rette dich aus seiner Hand wie eine Gazelle und wie ein Vogel aus der Hand des Vogelstellers!
Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand [of the hunter], and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.
6 Gehe hin zur Ameise, du Fauler, siehe ihre Weise an und lerne:
Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:
7 obwohl sie keinen Fürsten, noch Hauptmann, noch Herrscher hat,
Which having no chief, overseer, or ruler,
8 bereitet sie dennoch im Sommer ihr Brot und sammelt in der Erntezeit ihre Speise.
Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest.
9 Wie lange willst du liegen bleiben, du Fauler? Wann willst du aufstehen von deinem Schlaf?
How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?
10 «Ein wenig schlafen, ein wenig schlummern, ein wenig die Hände in den Schoß legen, um zu ruhen»:
[Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
11 so holt dich die Armut ein wie ein Schnelläufer, und der Mangel wie ein Leichtbewaffneter!
So shall thy poverty come as a robber, and thy want as an armed man.
12 Ein Taugenichts, ein nichtswürdiger Mensch ist, wer falsche Reden führt
A worthless person, a man of iniquity; he walketh with a froward mouth;
13 und dabei mit seinen Augen blinzelt, Kratzfüße macht und die Hände reibt.
He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he maketh signs with his fingers;
14 Verkehrtheit ist in seinem Herzen; er schmiedet allezeit Böses, richtet Zänkereien an.
Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth evil continually; he soweth discord.
15 Darum wird sein Schicksal plötzlich über ihn kommen, augenblicklich wird er zusammenbrechen, unrettbar.
Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; on a sudden shall he be broken and that without remedy.
16 Diese sechs [Stücke] haßt der HERR, und sieben sind seiner Seele ein Greuel:
There be six things which the LORD hateth; yea, seven which are an abomination unto him:
17 stolze Augen, falsche Zunge, Hände, die unschuldiges Blut vergießen,
Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood;
18 ein Herz, das böse Pläne schmiedet, Füße, die schnell zum Bösen laufen,
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief;
19 ein falscher Zeuge, der Lügen ausspricht, und wer Zwietracht zwischen Brüder wirft.
A false witness that uttereth lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.
20 Bewahre, mein Sohn, das Gebot deines Vaters, und verwirf nicht die Lehre deiner Mutter!
My son, keep the commandment of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:
21 Binde sie beständig auf dein Herz, hänge sie um deinen Hals;
Bind them continually upon thine heart, tie them about thy neck.
22 auf deinen Gängen sollen sie dich geleiten, auf deinem Lager dich behüten und wenn du aufstehst, dir in den Sinn kommen!
When thou walkest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall watch over thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.
23 Denn das Gebot ist eine Leuchte, und die Lehre ist ein Licht, Zucht und Vermahnung sind ein Weg des Lebens.
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
24 Sie sollen dich bewahren vor dem schlechten Weib, vor der glatten Zunge der Fremden;
To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the stranger’s tongue.
25 daß du in deinem Herzen nicht nach ihrer Schönheit begehrest und sie dich nicht fange mit ihren Augenwimpern.
Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.
26 Denn um einer Hure willen kommt man an den Bettelstab, und eines andern Weib gefährdet die teure Seele!
For on account of a whorish woman [a man is brought] to a piece of bread: and the adulteress hunteth for the precious life.
27 Kann jemand Feuer in seinem Busen tragen, ohne daß seine Kleider in Brand geraten?
Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?
28 Oder kann einer auf glühenden Kohlen laufen, ohne die Füße zu verbrennen?
Or can one walk upon hot coals, and his feet not be scorched?
29 Also geht auch keiner ungestraft zu seines Nächsten Eheweib und rührt sie an!
So he that goeth in to his nieghbour’s wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be unpunished.
30 Man verachtet den Dieb nicht, wenn er stiehlt, um sein Leben zu fristen, wenn er Hunger hat;
Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry:
31 wird er ertappt, so muß er siebenfach bezahlen und alles hergeben, was er im Hause hat;
But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.
32 wer aber ein Weib zum Ehebruch verführt, der ist ein herzloser Mensch; er ruiniert seine eigene Seele, indem er solches tut.
He that committeth adultery with a woman is void of understanding: he doeth it that would destroy his own soul.
33 Schläge und Schmach werden ihn treffen, und seine Schande ist nicht auszutilgen;
Wounds and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.
34 denn der Zorn des Mannes glüht, und am Tage der Rache wird er nicht schonen;
For jealousy is the rage of a man; and he will not spare in the day of vengeance.
35 er sieht kein Lösegeld an und läßt sich durch das größte Geschenk nicht besänftigen.
He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.
