Sprueche 3
1 Mein Sohn, vergiß meine Lehre nicht, und dein Herz bewahre meine Gebote!
[My] son, forget not my laws; but let your heart keep my words:
2 Denn sie werden dir Verlängerung der Tage und Jahre des Lebens und viel Frieden bringen.
for length of existence, and years of life, and peace, shall they add to you.
3 Gnade und Wahrheit werden dich nicht verlassen! Binde sie um deinen Hals, schreibe sie auf die Tafel deines Herzens,
Let not mercy and truth forsake you; but bind them about your neck:
4 so wirst du Gunst und Wohlgefallen erlangen in den Augen Gottes und der Menschen.
so shall you find favour: and do you provide things honest in the sight of the Lord, and of men.
5 Vertraue auf den HERRN von ganzem Herzen und verlaß dich nicht auf deinen Verstand;
Trust in God with all your heart; and be not exalted in your own wisdom.
6 erkenne ihn auf allen deinen Wegen, so wird er deine Pfade ebnen.
In all your ways acquaint yourself with her, that she may rightly direct your paths.
7 Halte dich nicht selbst für weise; fürchte den HERRN und weiche vom Bösen!
Be not wise in your own conceit; but fear God, and depart from all evil.
8 Das wird deinem Leib gesund sein und deine Gebeine erquicken!
Then shall there be health to your body, and good keeping to your bones.
9 Ehre den HERRN mit deinem Gut und mit den Erstlingen all deines Einkommens,
Honour the Lord with your just labours, and give him the first of your fruits of righteousness:
10 so werden sich deine Scheunen mit Überfluß füllen und deine Keltern von Most überlaufen.
that your storehouses may be completely filled with corn, and that your presses may burst forth with wine.
11 Mein Sohn, verwünsche nicht die Züchtigung des HERRN und laß dich seine Strafe nicht verdrießen;
[My] son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; nor faint when you are rebuked of him:
12 denn welchen der HERR lieb hat, den züchtigt er, wie ein Vater den Sohn, dem er wohlwill.
for whom the Lord loves, he rebukes, and scourges every son whom he receives.
13 Wohl dem Menschen, der Weisheit findet, dem Menschen, der Verstand bekommt!
Blessed is the man who has found wisdom, and the mortal who knows prudence.
14 Denn ihr Erwerb ist besser als Gelderwerb, und ihr Gewinn geht über feines Gold.
For it is better to traffic for her, than for treasures of gold and silver.
15 Sie ist kostbarer als Perlen, und alle deine Schätze sind ihr nicht zu vergleichen.
And she is more valuable than precious stones: no evil thing shall resist her: she is well known to all that approach her, and no precious thing is equal to her in value.
16 In ihrer Rechten ist langes Leben, in ihrer Linken Reichtum und Ehre.
For length of existence and years of life are in her right hand; and in her left hand are wealth and glory: out of her mouth proceeds righteousness, and she carries law and mercy upon her tongue.
17 Ihre Wege sind liebliche Wege und alle ihre Pfade Frieden.
Her ways are good ways, and all her paths are peaceful.
18 Sie ist ein Baum des Lebens denen, die sie ergreifen; und wer sie festhält, ist glücklich zu preisen.
She is a tree of life to all that lay hold upon her; and she is [a] secure [help] to all that stay themselves on her, as on the Lord.
19 Der HERR hat die Erde mit Weisheit gegründet und die Himmel mit Verstand befestigt.
God by wisdom founded the earth, and by prudence he prepared the heavens.
20 Durch seine Erkenntnis brachen die Fluten hervor und träufelten die Wolken Tau.
By understanding were the depths broken up, and the clouds dropped water.
21 Solches, mein Sohn, laß niemals aus den Augen; bewahre Überlegung und Besonnenheit!
[My] son, let [them] not pass from [you], but keep my counsel and understanding:
22 Sie werden deiner Seele zum Leben dienen und zum Schmuck deinem Hals.
that your soul may live, and that there may be grace round your neck; and it shall be health to your flesh, and safety to your bones:
23 Dann wirst du sicher deines Weges gehen, und dein Fuß stößt nicht an.
that you may go confidently in peace in all your ways, and that your foot may not stumble.
24 Ohne Furcht wirst du dich niederlegen, und liegst du, so wird dein Schlaf süß sein.
For if you rest, you shall be undismayed; and if you sleep, you shall slumber sweetly.
25 Du brauchst keinen plötzlichen Schrecken zu fürchten, auch nicht den Untergang der Gottlosen, wenn er kommt.
And you shall not be afraid of alarm coming upon you, neither of approaching attacks of ungodly men.
26 Denn der HERR wird in deinem Herzen sein und deinen Fuß bewahren vor dem Fallstrick.
For the Lord shall be over all your ways, and shall establish your foot that you be not moved.
27 Verweigere keinem Bedürftigen eine Wohltat, wenn es in deiner Hände Macht steht, sie zu erweisen!
Forbear not to do good to the poor, whenever your hand may have [power] to help [him].
28 Sprich nicht zu deinem Nächsten: «Gehe hin und komme wieder; morgen will ich dir geben!» während du es doch hast.
Say not, Come back another time, to-morrow I will give; while you are able to do [him] good: for you know not what the next day will bring forth.
29 Ersinne nichts Böses wider deinen Nächsten, der arglos bei dir wohnt.
Devise not evil against your friend, living near you and trusting in you.
30 Hadere mit keinem Menschen ohne Ursache, wenn er dir nichts Böses zugefügt hat.
Be not ready to quarrel with a man without a cause, lest he do you some harm.
31 Sei nicht neidisch auf den Gewalttätigen und erwähle dir keinen seiner Wege!
Procure not the reproaches of bad men, neither do you covet their ways.
32 Denn der Verkehrte ist dem HERRN ein Greuel, aber mit Aufrichtigen ist er vertraut.
For every transgressor is unclean before the Lord; neither does he sit amongst the righteous.
33 Der Fluch des HERRN ist im Hause des Gottlosen, aber die Wohnung der Gerechten segnet er.
The curse of God is in the houses of the ungodly; but the habitations of the just are blessed.
34 Wenn er der Spötter spottet, so gibt er den Demütigen Gnade.
The Lord resists the proud; but he gives grace to the humble.
35 Die Weisen ererben Ehre, die Toren aber macht die Schande berühmt.
The wise shall inherit glory; but the ungodly have exalted [their own] dishonour.
