Sprueche 21
1 Gleich Wasserbächen ist des Königs Herz in der Hand des HERRN; er leitet es, wohin er will.
The king's heart [is] in the hand of the LORD, [as] the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.
2 In eines jeglichen Augen ist sein Weg recht; aber der HERR wägt die Herzen.
Every way of a man [is] right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.
3 Recht und Gerechtigkeit üben ist dem HERRN lieber als Opfer.
To do justice and judgment [is] more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.
4 Hohe Augen und ein aufgeblasenes Herz, das Ackern der Gottlosen ist Sünde.
A high look, and a proud heart, [and] the plowing of the wicked, [is] sin.
5 Die Überlegungen des Fleißigen sind nur zum Vorteil, aber wer allzusehr eilt, hat nur Schaden davon.
The thoughts of the diligent [tend] only to plenteousness; but of every one [that is] hasty only to want.
6 Wer mit lügenhafter Zunge Schätze erwirbt, der jagt nach Wind und sucht den Tod.
The getting of treasures by a lying tongue [is] a vanity tossed to and fro by them that seek death.
7 Die Gewalttätigkeit der Gottlosen rafft sie weg; denn sie weigern sich, das Rechte zu tun.
The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment.
8 Wer schuldbeladen ist, muß krumme Wege gehen; wer aber lauter ist, der handelt redlich.
The way of man [is] froward and strange: but [as for] the pure, his work [is] right.
9 Es ist besser, in einem Winkel auf dem Dach zu wohnen, als mit einem zänkischen Weib in einem gemeinsamen Haus.
[It is] better to dwell in a corner of the house-top, than with a brawling woman in a wide house.
10 Die Seele des Gottlosen begehrt nach Bösem, sein Nächster findet keine Gnade vor ihm.
The soul of the wicked desireth evil: his neighbor findeth no favor in his eyes.
11 Durch Bestrafung des Spötters wird der Alberne gewitzigt, und wer auf den Weisen achtet, wird belehrt.
When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.
12 Der Gerechte [Gott] achtet auf des Gottlosen Haus, er stürzt die Gottlosen ins Unglück.
The righteous [man] wisely considereth the house of the wicked: [but God] overthroweth the wicked for [their] wickedness.
13 Wer sein Ohr vor dem Geschrei des Armen verstopft, der wird auch keine Antwort kriegen, wenn er ruft.
Whoever stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard.
14 Eine heimliche Gabe besänftigt den Zorn, und ein Geschenk im Busen den heftigsten Grimm.
A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom, strong wrath.
15 Es ist eine Freude für die Gerechten, wenn Recht geschafft wird; aber für die Übeltäter ist es ein Schrecken.
[It is] joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction [shall be] to the workers of iniquity.
16 Ein Mensch, der vom Wege des Verstandes abirrt, wird ruhen in der Versammlung der Schatten.
The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.
17 Wer Vergnügen liebt, muß Mangel leiden; wer Wein und Öl liebt, wird nicht reich.
He that loveth pleasure [shall be] a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.
18 Der Gottlose wird den Gerechten ablösen, und der Betrüger kommt an des Redlichen Statt.
The wicked [shall be] a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.
19 Besser ist's in der Wüste zu wohnen, als bei einem zänkischen und ärgerlichen Weib.
[It is] better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.
20 Ein wertvoller Schatz und Öl ist in der Wohnung des Weisen; aber ein törichter Mensch vergeudet es.
[There is] a treasure to be desired, and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man spendeth it up.
21 Wer darnach trachtet, gerecht und gnädig zu sein, der findet Leben, Gerechtigkeit und Ehre.
He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honor.
22 Ein Weiser erobert die Stadt der Starken und stürzt die Macht, darauf sie sich verließ.
A wise [man] scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of its confidence.
23 Wer seinen Mund hütet und seine Zunge bewahrt, der erspart seiner Seele manche Not.
Whoever keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.
24 Ein übermütiger und vermessener Mensch (Spötter wird er genannt) handelt in frevelhaftem Übermut.
Proud [and] haughty scorner [is] his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.
25 Der Faule muß Hungers sterben, da er mit seinen Händen nicht arbeiten will.
The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labor.
26 Es kommen täglich neue Begehren; aber der Gerechte gibt und hält nicht zurück.
He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.
27 Das Opfer der Gottlosen ist [dem HERRN] ein Greuel, zumal wenn man es mit Bosheit darbringt.
The sacrifice of the wicked [is] abomination: how much more, [when] he bringeth it with a wicked mind?
28 Ein Lügenzeuge geht zugrunde; aber ein Ohrenzeuge darf immer wieder reden.
A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.
29 Der Gottlose macht ein freches Gesicht; aber der Gerechte hat einen sichern Gang.
A wicked man hardeneth his face: but [as for] the upright, he directeth his way.
30 Es hilft keine Weisheit, kein Verstand und kein Rat wider den HERRN.
[There is] no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD.
31 Das Roß wird gerüstet auf den Tag der Schlacht; aber der Sieg ist des HERRN.
The horse [is] prepared against the day of battle: but safety [is] from the LORD.
