1 Ein Armer, der in seiner Unschuld wandelt, ist besser als ein verkehrtes, dummes Maul.
Betere is a pore man, that goith in his simplenesse, than a riche man bitynge hise lippis, and vnwijs.
2 Schon Mangel an Erkenntnis ist nicht gut für die Seele, und wer zu schnell geht, geht leicht fehl.
Where is not kunnyng of the soule, is not good; and he that is hasti, in feet hirtith.
3 Des Menschen Dummheit verdirbt seinen Weg, und alsdann murrt sein Herz wider den HERRN.
The foli of a man disseyueth hise steppis; and he brenneth in his soule ayens God.
4 Reichtum macht viele Freunde; der Arme aber wird von seinem Freunde verlassen.
Richessis encreessen ful many freendis; forsothe also thei ben departid fro a pore man, whiche he hadde.
5 Ein falscher Zeuge bleibt nicht ungestraft, und wer Lügen ausspricht, wird nicht entrinnen.
A fals witnesse schal not be vnpunyschid; and he that spekith leesingis, schal not ascape.
6 Viele schmeicheln dem Vornehmen, und jeder will ein Freund dessen sein, der Geschenke gibt.
Many men onouren the persoone of a myyti man; and ben frendis of hym that deelith yiftis.
7 Den Armen hassen alle seine Brüder; sollten sich nicht auch seine Freunde von ihm entfernen? Geht er auf ihre Worte, so sind sie nichts!
The britheren of a pore man haten hym; ferthermore and the freendis yeden awei fer fro hym. He that sueth wordis oonli, schal haue no thing;
8 Wer Verstand erwirbt, liebt seine Seele; wer Vernunft bewahrt, findet Gutes.
but he that holdith stabli the mynde, loueth his soule, and the kepere of prudence schal fynde goodis.
9 Ein falscher Zeuge bleibt nicht ungestraft, und wer Lügen ausspricht, geht zugrunde.

10 Einem Toren ziemt Wohlleben nicht, geschweige denn einem Knecht, über Fürsten zu herrschen.
Delices bicomen not a fool; nether `it bicometh a seruaunt to be lord of princes.
11 Klugheit macht einen Menschen geduldig, und es ist ihm eine Ehre, Vergehungen zu übersehen.
The teching of a man is knowun bi pacience; and his glorie is to passe ouere wickid thingis.
12 Wie das Brüllen des Löwen ist des Königs Zorn, seine Gunst wie der Tau auf grünem Grase.
As the gnasting of a lioun, so and the ire of the king; and as deewe on eerbe, so and the gladnesse of the kyng.
13 Ein törichter Sohn ist seines Vaters Unglück, und ein zänkisches Weib ist eine beständige Dachtraufe.
The sorewe of the fadir is a fonned sone; and roofes droppynge contynueli is a womman ful of chiding.
14 Haus und Hof erbt man von den Vätern; aber vom HERRN kommt ein verständiges Weib.
Housis and richessis ben youun of fadir and modir; but a prudent wijf is youun propirli of the Lord.
15 Faulheit versenkt in tiefen Schlaf, und eine lässige Seele muß hungern.
Slouth bringith in sleep; and a negligent soule schal haue hungur.
16 Wer das Gebot bewahrt, der bewahrt seine Seele; wer aber seiner Wege nicht achtet, muß sterben.
He that kepith the comaundement of God, kepith his soule; but he that chargith not his weie, schal be slayn.
17 Wer sich des Armen erbarmt, der leiht dem HERRN; und Er wird ihm seine Wohltat vergelten.
He that hath mercy on a pore man, leeneth to the Lord; and he schal yelde his while to hym.
18 Züchtige deinen Sohn, weil noch Hoffnung vorhanden ist; aber laß dir nicht in den Sinn kommen, ihn zu töten!
Teche thi sone, and dispeire thou not; but sette thou not thi soule to the sleyng of hym.
19 Wer jähzornig ist, muß Buße zahlen; denn wenn du ihn davon befreist, so machst du nur, daß er's wieder tut.
Forsothe he that is vnpacient, schal suffre harm; and whanne he hath rauyschid, he schal leie to anothir thing.
20 Gehorche dem Rat und nimm die Züchtigung an, damit du endlich weise wirst!
Here thou counsel, and take thou doctryn; that thou be wijs in thi laste thingis.
21 Ein Mensch macht vielerlei Pläne in seinem Herzen; aber der Rat des HERRN besteht.
Many thouytis ben in the herte of a man; but the wille of the Lord schal dwelle.
22 Des Menschen Zierde ist seine Güte, und ein Armer ist besser als ein Lügner.
A nedi man is merciful; and betere is a pore iust man, than a man liere.
23 Die Furcht des HERRN dient zum Leben; wer daran reich ist, der wird über Nacht von keinem Unglück heimgesucht.
The drede of the Lord ledith to lijf `of blis; and he `that dredith God schal dwelle in plentee, with outen visityng `of the worste.
24 Der Faule steckt seine Hand in den Topf und mag sie nicht wieder zum Munde bringen.
A slow man hidith his hond vndur the armpit; and putteth it not to his mouth.
25 Schlage den Spötter, so wird der Einfältige klug; weise den Verständigen zurecht, er läßt sich's zur Lehre dienen!
Whanne a man ful of pestilence is betun, a fool schal be wisere. If thou blamist a wijs man, he schal vndurstonde techyng.
26 Wer den Vater mißhandelt und die Mutter verjagt, ist ein Sohn, der Schande und Schmach bereitet.
He that turmentith the fadir, and fleeth fro the modir, schal be ful of yuel fame, and schal be cursid.
27 Laß ab, mein Sohn, die Unterweisung zu hören, wenn du von den vernünftigen Lehren doch abweichen willst!
Sone, ceesse thou not to here techyng; and knowe thou the wordis of kunnyng.
28 Ein nichtsnutziger Zeuge verhöhnt das Gericht, und der Mund der Gottlosen verschlingt Lügen.
A wickid witnesse scorneth doom; and the mouth of vnpitouse men deuourith wickidnesse.
29 Für die Spötter sind Strafgerichte bereit und Schläge für den Rücken der Toren.
Domes ben maad redi to scorneris; and hameris smytynge ben maad redi to the bodies of foolis.
