Sprueche 17
1 Besser ein trockener Bissen mit Ruhe, als ein Haus voll Opferfleisch mit Zank!
Better [is] a dry morsel, and quietness with it, than a house full of sacrifices [with] strife.
2 Ein kluger Knecht wird herrschen über einen schändlichen Sohn und wird sich mit den Brüdern in das Erbe teilen.
A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.
3 Der Tiegel prüft das Silber und der Ofen das Gold; der HERR aber prüft die Herzen.
The fining-pot [is] for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.
4 Ein Boshafter horcht auf falsche Mäuler, ein Lügner leiht verderblichen Zungen sein Ohr.
A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips: [and] a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.
5 Wer des Armen spottet, schmäht seinen Schöpfer; wer schadenfroh ist, bleibt nicht ungestraft.
He that mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker; [and] he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.
6 Kindeskinder sind eine Krone der Alten, und der Kinder Ehre sind ihre Väter.
Children's children [are] the crown of old men; and the glory of children [is] their fathers.
7 Zum Narren paßt keine anmaßende Rede, so wenig als zu einem Fürsten Lügenreden.
Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.
8 Geschenke sind wie Edelsteine; wer solche geben kann, hat überall Glück.
A gift [is as] a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.
9 Wer Liebe sucht, deckt Fehler zu; wer aber Worte hinterbringt, trennt vertraute Freunde.
He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth [very] friends.
10 Schelten macht mehr Eindruck auf den Verständigen als hundert Schläge auf den Narren.
A reproof entereth more into a wise man than a hundred stripes into a fool.
11 Ein Boshafter sucht nur Empörung; aber ein unbarmherziger Bote wird gegen ihn ausgesandt werden.
An evil [man] seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
12 Besser, es treffe jemand eine Bärin an, die ihrer Jungen beraubt ist, als einen Narren in seiner Torheit!
Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
13 Wer Gutes mit Bösem vergilt, von dessen Haus wird das Böse nicht weichen.
Whoever rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
14 Tropfenweise geht der Hader an; darum laß vom Zanken, ehe er losbricht!
The beginning of strife [is as] when one letteth out water: therefore withdraw from contention, before it be meddled with.
15 Wer den Gottlosen gerechtspricht und den Gerechten verdammt, die sind alle beide dem HERRN ein Greuel.
He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both [are] abomination to the LORD.
16 Was nützt das Geld in der Hand des Narren, Weisheit zu kaufen in seinem Unverstand?
Why [is there] a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing [he hath] no heart [to it]?
17 Ein Freund liebt jederzeit, und in der Not wird er als Bruder geboren.
A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
18 Ein unvernünftiger Mensch ist, wer in die Hand gelobt und in Gegenwart seines Nächsten Bürgschaft leistet.
A man void of understanding striketh hands, [and] becometh surety in the presence of his friend.
19 Wer Zank liebt, der liebt Entzweiung, und wer sein Tor zu hoch baut, läuft Gefahr, daß es zusammenbricht.
He loveth transgression that loveth strife: [and] he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.
20 Wer verschrobenen Herzens ist, findet nichts Gutes, und wer eine arglistige Zunge hat, fällt in Unglück.
He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.
21 Wer einen Toren zeugt, der hat Kummer, und der Vater eines Narren kann sich nicht freuen.
He that begetteth a fool [doeth it] to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.
22 Ein fröhliches Herz fördert die Genesung; aber ein niedergeschlagener Geist dörrt das Gebein aus.
A merry heart doeth good [like] a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
23 Der Gottlose nimmt ein Geschenk aus dem Busen, um zu beugen die Pfade des Rechts.
A wicked [man] taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.
24 Dem Verständigen liegt die Weisheit vor Augen; der Tor aber sucht sie am Ende der Erde.
Wisdom [is] before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool [are] in the ends of the earth.
25 Ein törichter Sohn macht seinem Vater Verdruß und bereitet seiner Mutter Herzeleid.
A foolish son [is] a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bore him.
26 Einen Gerechten zu büßen, ist nicht gut; Edle zu schlagen, ist nicht recht.
Also to punish the just [is] not good, [nor] to strike princes for equity.
27 Wer Erfahrungen gemacht hat, spart seine Worte, und wer kühlen Geistes ist, der ist ein weiser Mann.
He that hath knowledge spareth his words: [and] a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.
28 Selbst ein Narr wird für weise gehalten, wenn er schweigt, für verständig, wenn er seine Lippen verschließt.
Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: [and] he that shutteth his lips [is esteemed] a man of understanding.
