1 Sprüche Salomos, des Sohnes Davids, des Königs von Israel,
The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, the king of Israel:
2 daß man Weisheit und Zucht erlerne und verständige Reden verstehe,
To know wisdom and instruction; to comprehend the sayings of understanding;
3 daß man Gedankenzucht erlange, Rechtssinn, Urteilskraft und Aufrichtigkeit;
To accept the instruction of intelligence, righteousness, and justice, and equity;
4 damit den Einfältigen Klugheit, den Jünglingen Erkenntnis und Besonnenheit verliehen werde.
To give to the simple prudence, to the youth knowledge and discretion.
5 Wer weise ist, hört darauf und vermehrt seine Kenntnisse, und wer verständig ist, eignet sich Fertigkeiten an,
The wise will hear, and will increase [his] information; and the man of understanding will obtain wise counsels:
6 damit er Sprichwörter und bildliche Rede verstehe, die Worte der Weisen und ihre Rätsel.
To understand a proverb, and a sage sentence; the words of the wise, and their riddles.
7 Die Furcht des HERRN ist der Anfang der Erkenntnis; nur Toren verachten Weisheit und Zucht!
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: wisdom and instruction fools [alone] despise.
8 Höre, mein Sohn, die Unterweisung deines Vaters und verwirf nicht die Lehre deiner Mutter!
Hear, my son, the instruction of thy father, and cast not off the teaching of thy mother;
9 Denn sie sind ein schöner Kranz für dein Haupt und ein Geschmeide um deinen Hals.
For a wreath of grace are they unto thy head, and chains for thy throat.
10 Mein Sohn, wenn dich Sünder überreden wollen, so willige nicht ein,
My son, if sinners wish to entice thee, consent thou not.
11 wenn sie sagen: «Komm mit uns, wir wollen auf Blut lauern, wir wollen dem Unschuldigen ohne Ursache nachstellen;
If they should say, Come with us, let us lie in wait for blood, let us watch in concealment for the uselessly innocent;
12 wir wollen sie verschlingen wie der Scheol die Lebendigen, als sänken sie unversehens ins Grab! (Sheol h7585)
We will swallow them up like the grave alive; and the men of integrity, as those that go down into the pit; (Sheol h7585)
13 Wir wollen allerlei kostbares Gut gewinnen und unsre Häuser füllen mit Raub;
We shall find all [kinds of] precious wealth, we will fill our houses with booty;
14 schließe dich uns auf gut Glück an, wir wollen gemeinsame Kasse führen!»
Thy lot must thou cast in our midst; one purse shall be for us all:
15 Mein Sohn, geh nicht mit ihnen auf dem Wege, halte deinen Fuß zurück von ihrem Pfad!
My son, walk not thou on the way with them; withhold thy foot from their path;
16 Denn ihre Füße laufen zum Bösen und eilen Blut zu vergießen.
For their feet run after evil, and they make haste to shed blood.
17 Denn vergeblich wird das Netz ausgespannt vor den Augen aller Vögel;
For uselessly is the net spread out before the eyes of every winged bird:
18 sie aber lauern auf ihr eigenes Blut und stellen ihrem eigenen Leben nach.
While they lie in wait for their [own] blood; they watch in concealment for their [own] lives.
19 Dies ist das Schicksal aller, die nach [ungerechtem] Gewinn trachten: er kostet seinen Besitzern die Seele!
So are the paths of every one that is greedy after [unlawful] gain; it taketh away the life of those that own it.
20 Die Weisheit ruft draußen laut, öffentlich läßt sie ihre Stimme hören;
Wisdom crieth loudly without; in the public places she uttereth her voice;
21 im ärgsten Straßenlärm schreit sie, an den Pforten der Stadttore hält sie ihre Reden:
At the corner of noisy streets she calleth, at the entrances of gates; in the city she sayeth her speeches:
22 Wie lange wollt ihr Einfältigen die Einfalt lieben und ihr Spötter Lust am Spotten haben und ihr Toren Erkenntnis hassen?
How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners take their delight in scorning, and fools hate knowledge?
23 Kehret um zu meiner Zurechtweisung! Siehe, ich will euch meinen Geist sprudeln lassen, euch meine Worte kundtun!
Turn back to my admonition: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.
24 Darum, weil ich rufe und ihr mich abweiset, weil ich meine Hand ausstrecke und niemand darauf achtet,
Whereas I called, and ye refused; I stretched out my hand, and no man was attentive;
25 weil ihr vielmehr allen meinen Rat verwerfet und meine Zurechtweisung nicht begehret,
And ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would not accept my admonition:
26 so werde auch ich eures Unglücks lachen und euer spotten,
[Therefore] I also will truly laugh at your calamity; I will deride [you] when your terror cometh;
27 wenn das, was ihr fürchtet, wie ein Wetter über euch kommt und euer Schicksal euch wie ein Wirbelsturm überraschen wird, wenn euch Angst und Not überfällt.
When your terror cometh like the tempest-cloud, and your calamity hasteneth like a whirlwind; when there come upon you distress and affliction.
28 Dann werden sie mich anrufen, aber ich werde nicht antworten; sie werden mich eifrig suchen und nicht finden,
Then will they call me, but I will not answer; they will seek me earnestly, but they shall not find me;
29 darum, daß sie die Erkenntnis gehaßt und die Furcht des HERRN nicht erwählt haben,
For the reason that they hated knowledge, and the fear of the Lord they did not choose;
30 daß sie meinen Rat nicht begehrt und alle meine Zurechtweisung verschmäht haben.
[That] they would not attend to my counsel: [that] they rejected all my admonition.
31 Darum sollen sie von der Frucht ihres eigenen Weges essen und von ihren eigenen Ratschlägen genug bekommen!
Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and from their own counsels shall they be satisfied.
32 Denn ihre Verirrung bringt die Einfältigen um, und ihre Sorglosigkeit stürzt die Toren ins Verderben.
For the defection of the simple will slay them, and the prosperity of fools will cause them to be lost.
33 Wer aber mir gehorcht, wird sicher wohnen und kein Unheil fürchten müssen.
But he that hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be at rest from the dread of evil.
