4 Mose 16
1 Und Korah, der Sohn Jizhars, des Sohnes Kahats, des Sohnes Levis, nahm Datan und Abiram, die Söhne Eliabs, und On, den Sohn Pelets, die Söhne Rubens;
One day Korah, who was the son of Izhar and a descendant of Levi’s son Kohath, conspired with Dathan and Abiram, who were the sons of Eliab, and On, who was the son of Peleth. Those three men were from the tribe of Reuben.
2 und sie empörten sich wider Mose, samt zweihundertundfünfzig Männern aus den Kindern Israel, Hauptleuten der Gemeinde, Berufenen der Versammlung, angesehenen Männern.
Korah and those other three men incited 250 other people who were leaders among the Israeli people to join them in rebelling against Moses/me.
3 Und sie versammelten sich wider Mose und Aaron und sprachen zu ihnen: Ihr beansprucht zu viel; denn die ganze Gemeinde ist überall heilig, und der HERR ist in ihrer Mitte! Warum erhebet ihr euch über die Gemeinde des HERRN?
They came together to criticize Aaron and Moses/me. They said to them/us, “You two are using more [authority] than you should! Yahweh has set apart all of us Israeli people, and he is with/helping all of us. So why do you act as though you are more important than the rest of us people who belong to Yahweh [RHQ]?”
4 Als Mose solches hörte, warf er sich auf sein Angesicht und sprach zu Korah und zu seiner ganzen Rotte also:
When Moses/I heard what they were saying, he/I prostrated himself/myself on the ground.
5 Morgen wird der HERR kundtun, wer ihm angehört, und wer heilig sei, daß er ihn zu sich nahen lasse. Wen er erwählt, den wird er zu sich nahen lassen.
Then he/I said to Korah and those [Israeli leaders] who were with Korah, “Tomorrow morning Yahweh will show us whom he has chosen to be his [priest], and who is holy and allowed to come near to him. Yahweh will permit [only] those whom he chooses to come into his presence.
6 Korah und seine ganze Rotte, tut das: Nehmet für euch Räucherpfannen
So Korah, tomorrow you and those who are with you must prepare your pans to burn incense.
7 und leget Feuer darein und tut Räucherwerk darauf vor dem HERRN, morgen;
Then you must light a fire in them and burn the incense in the presence of Yahweh. Then we will see which one of us Yahweh has chosen to be his holy servant. It is you men who are descendants of Levi who are trying to use more [authority] than you should!”
8 wen der HERR erwählt, der sei heilig. Ihr beansprucht zu viel, ihr Kinder Levis. Und Mose sprach zu Korah: Höret doch, ihr Kinder Levis!
Then Moses/I spoke again to Korah. He/I said, “You men who are descendants of Levi, listen to me!
9 Ist es euch zu wenig, daß euch der Gott Israels von der Gemeinde Israels ausgesondert hat, daß ihr euch zu ihm nahen sollt, daß ihr den Dienst an der Wohnung des HERRN versehet und vor der Gemeinde stehet, ihr zu dienen?
The God of us Israelis has chosen all of you to be close to him in order that you can work for him at his Sacred Tent and serve the people. (Is that unimportant/Does that mean nothing) to you [RHQ]?
10 Er hat dich und alle deine Brüder, die Kinder Levis, samt dir zu ihm nahen lassen, und ihr begehret nun auch das Priestertum?
Yahweh has brought you, [Korah], and your fellow descendants of Levi, near to himself. Now are you demanding to become priests also?
11 Fürwahr, du und deine ganze Rotte, ihr verbündet euch wider den HERRN. Was ist Aaron, daß ihr wider ihn murret?
It is really Yahweh against whom you and your fellow descendants of Levi are rebelling. Aaron is not the one about whom you are really complaining [RHQ].”
12 Und Mose schickte hin und ließ Datan und Abiram, die Söhne Eliabs, rufen. Sie aber sprachen: Wir kommen nicht hinauf!
Then Moses/I summoned Dathan and Abiram, but [they refused to come]. They [sent a message] saying, “We will not come to you!
13 Ist es zu wenig, daß du uns aus einem Lande geführt hast, das von Milch und Honig fließt, um uns in der Wüste zu töten? Willst du auch noch über uns herrschen?
You brought us out of Egypt, which was a very fertile [IDM] land, in order to cause us to die here in this desert. That was bad. But now you are also trying to boss us [RHQ], and that is worse.
14 Wie fein hast du uns in ein Land gebracht, das von Milch und Honig fließt, und hast uns Äcker und Weinberge zum Erbteil gegeben! Willst du diesen Leuten auch die Augen ausstechen? Wir kommen nicht hinauf!
You have not given us a new land to live in, a land that has good fields and vineyards. You are only trying to [RHQ] trick these people. So we will not come to you.”
15 Da ergrimmte Mose sehr und sprach zu dem HERRN: Wende dich nicht zu ihrem Speisopfer! Ich habe nicht einen Esel von ihnen genommen und habe keinem jemals ein Leid getan!
Then Moses/I became very angry. He/I said to Yahweh, “Do not accept the grain offerings that they have brought. I have not taken anything from them, not even one donkey, and I have never done anything wrong to them, [so they have no reason to complain about me].”
16 Und Mose sprach zu Korah: Du und deine ganze Rotte, kommmt morgen vor den HERRN, du und sie und Aaron.
Then Moses/I said to Korah, “You and all those who are with you must come here tomorrow and stand in front of Yahweh. Aaron will also be here.
17 Und ein jeder nehme seine Räucherpfanne und lege Räucherwerk darauf und trete herzu vor den HERRN, ein jeder mit seiner Räucherpfanne; das sind 250 Räucherpfannen, auch du und Aaron, nehmet ein jeder seine Räucherpfanne mit!
You and all the 250 men who are with you must each take a pan in which to burn incense, and put incense in it, to [burn it to be] an offering to Yahweh. Aaron will do the same thing.”
18 Da nahm jeder seine Räucherpfanne und legte Feuer darein und tat Räucherwerk darauf, und sie standen vor der Tür der Stiftshütte, auch Mose und Aaron.
So [the next day] each of those men got a pan to burn incense. They put in it incense and hot coals to light it, and then they all stood at the entrance of the Sacred Tent with Aaron and Moses/me.
19 Und Korah versammelte wider sie die ganze Gemeinde vor die Tür der Stiftshütte. Da erschien die Herrlichkeit des HERRN vor der ganzen Gemeinde.
Then Korah summoned all the people who supported him and who were against Moses/me, and they also gathered at the entrance of the tent. Then the glory of Yahweh appeared to all of them/us,
20 Und der HERR redete zu Mose und Aaron und sprach:
and Yahweh said to Aaron and Moses/me,
21 Scheidet euch von dieser Gemeinde, daß ich sie in einem Augenblick vertilge!
“Get away from all these people, in order that I can get rid of them immediately!”
22 Sie fielen aber auf ihr Angesicht und sprachen: O Gott, du Gott der Geister alles Fleisches, ein Mann hat gesündigt, und du willst über die ganze Gemeinde zürnen?
But Aaron and Moses/I prostrated themselves/ourselves on the ground. We pleaded with Yahweh, saying, “God, you are the one who caused all these people to live [MTY]. Only one of these men has sinned; so, (is it right for you to be angry with all the people?/it is not right for you to be angry with all the people!) [RHQ]”
23 Da redete der HERR zu Mose und sprach:
Yahweh said to Moses/me,
24 Sage der Gemeinde und sprich: Entfernt euch ringsum von der Wohnung Korahs, Datans und Abirams!
“[Okay], but tell all the people to get away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.”
25 Da stand Mose auf und ging zu Datan und Abiram, und die Ältesten Israels folgten ihm.
So Moses/I stood up and went to the tents of Dathan and Abiram. The Israeli leaders followed him/me.
26 Und er redete mit der Gemeinde und sprach: Weichet doch von den Hütten dieser gottlosen Menschen und rühret nichts an von allem, was ihnen gehört, damit ihr nicht weggerafft werdet um aller ihrer Sünden willen!
He/I told the people, “Get away from the tents of these wicked men, and do not touch anything that belongs to them! If you touch anything, you will die because of their sins!”
27 Da entfernten sie sich ringsum von der Wohnung Korahs, Datans und Abirams. Datan aber und Abiram kamen heraus und traten an die Tür ihrer Hütten mit ihren Weibern und Söhnen und Kindern.
So all the people moved away from the tents of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram. Dathan and Abiram came out of their tents with their wives and children and babies, and stood at the entrances of their tents.
28 Und Mose sprach: Daran sollt ihr merken, daß der HERR mich gesandt hat, alle diese Werke zu tun, und daß sie nicht aus meinem Herzen kommen:
Then Moses/I said, “I was not the one who decided to do all these things that I have done. It was Yahweh who [chose me and] sent me to do them. And now he will prove that to you.
29 werden diese sterben, wie alle Menschen sterben und gestraft werden mit einer Strafe, wie sie alle Menschen trifft, so hat der HERR mich nicht gesandt;
If these men die in a normal way, then it will be clear that Yahweh did not choose me.
30 wird aber der HERR etwas Neues schaffen, daß die Erde ihren Mund auftut und sie verschlingt mit allem, was sie haben, daß sie lebendig hinunterfahren ins Totenreich, so werdet ihr erkennen, daß diese Leute den HERRN gelästert haben! (Sheol h7585)
But if Yahweh does something that has never happened before, if he causes the ground [that is under their feet] to open up and swallow these men [and their families] and all their possessions, and they fall into the opening and are buried while they are still alive, then you will know that these men have insulted Yahweh.” (Sheol h7585)
31 Und es geschah, als er alle diese Worte ausgeredet hatte, da zerriß die Erde unter ihnen;
As soon as Moses/I said this, the ground split open beneath those men.
32 und die Erde tat ihren Mund auf und verschlang sie samt ihren Häusern und samt allen Menschen, die bei Korah waren, und mit aller ihrer Habe.
It swallowed them and their families and all those who were standing there with Korah and all of their possessions.
33 Und sie fuhren lebendig hinunter ins Totenreich mit allem, was sie hatten. Und die Erde deckte sie zu. Also kamen sie um, mitten aus der Gemeinde. (Sheol h7585)
They fell into the opening in the ground while they were still alive, and all their possessions fell into the opening also. They disappeared, and the ground closed back up again. (Sheol h7585)
34 Und ganz Israel, das rings um sie her war, floh bei ihrem Geschrei; denn sie sprachen: Daß uns die Erde nicht auch verschlinge!
They screamed as they fell, and all the people who were standing nearby heard them scream. The people [were terrified and] cried out as they ran away, saying, “[We do not want] the ground to swallow us also!”
35 Dazu fuhr Feuer aus von dem HERRN und verzehrte die zweihundertundfünfzig Männer, die das Räucherwerk opferten.
And then a fire from Yahweh came down [from the sky] and burned up the 250 men who were burning the incense!
36 Und der HERR redete zu Mose und sprach:
Then Yahweh said to Moses/me,
37 Sage zu Eleasar, dem Sohn Aarons, des Priesters, daß er die Räucherpfannen aus dem Brande aufhebe und das Feuer fernhin streue;
“Tell Aaron’s son Eleazar to take the pans that had incense in them away from the fire and to scatter the burning coals. The pans that those men [were carrying] are (holy/dedicated to me) [because they burned incense to me in them].
38 denn sie sind geheiligt, nämlich die Räucherpfannen derer, die wider ihre Seele gesündigt haben. Man soll sie zu breiten Blechen schlagen und den Altar damit bedecken; denn sie haben sie vor den HERRN gebracht und [dadurch] geheiligt; sie sollen den Kindern Israel zum Zeichen sein.
Those men have now died because of their sin; so [Eleazar must] take their pans and hammer the metal to make it become very thin. He must make a covering for the altar with that metal. Those pans were used to offer incense to me, so they are (holy/dedicated to me). [What happened to] those pans will now warn the Israeli people.”
39 Also nahmen Eleasar, der Priester, die ehernen Räucherpfannen, welche die Verbrannten herzugebracht hatten, und man schlug sie zu Blechen, um den Altar zu bedecken;
So Eleazar the priest collected the 250 pans for burning incense that had been used by the men who died in the fire. He hammered the pans very thin to make a covering for the altar, as Yahweh told Moses/me should be done.
40 zum Gedächtnis den Kindern Israel, daß kein Fremder, der nicht vom Samen Aarons ist, sich nahe, um vor dem HERRN Räucherwerk zu opfern, und es ihm nicht ergehe wie Korah und seiner Rotte; wie der HERR durch Mose gesagt hatte.
That warned the Israeli people that only those who were descendants of Aaron were permitted to burn incense for an offering to Yahweh. If anyone else did that, the same thing that happened to Korah and those who were with him would happen to them.
41 Am folgenden Morgen aber murrte die ganze Gemeinde der Kinder Israel wider Mose und Aaron und sprach: Ihr habt des HERRN Volk getötet!
But the following morning, all the Israeli people started to complain against Aaron and Moses/me, saying “You have killed many people who belonged to Yahweh!”
42 Als sich nun die Gemeinde wider Mose und Aaron versammelt hatte, wandten sie sich nach der Stiftshütte, und siehe, da bedeckte sie die Wolke, und die Herrlichkeit des HERRN erschien.
When all the people gathered together to protest about what Aaron and Moses/I had done, they looked at the Sacred Tent and saw that the sacred cloud had covered it, and the glory of Yahweh had appeared.
43 Und Mose und Aaron gingen vor die Stiftshütte.
Aaron and Moses/I went and stood in front of the Sacred Tent.
44 Und der HERR redete zu Mose und sprach:
Then Yahweh said to Moses/me,
45 Entfernt euch von dieser Gemeinde, so will ich sie in einem Augenblick vertilgen!
“Get away from these people, in order that I can get rid of them immediately [without injuring you two]!” But Aaron and Moses/I prostrated themselves/ourselves on the ground [and prayed].
46 Sie aber fielen auf ihr Angesicht. Und Mose sprach zu Aaron: Nimm die Räucherpfanne und tue Feuer darein vom Altar und lege Räucherwerk darauf und gehe eilends zu der Gemeinde und erwirke ihr Sühne. Denn der grimmige Zorn ist vom HERRN ausgegangen, und die Plage hat begonnen!
Moses/I said to Aaron, “Quickly take another pan and put in it some burning/hot coals from the altar. Put incense in the pan, and carry it out among the people to atone for the sins of the people. Yahweh is very angry with them, and [I know that] a (severe plague/bad sickness) has already started among them.”
47 Da nahm Aaron die Räucherpfanne, wie Mose gesagt hatte, und lief mitten unter die Gemeinde. Und siehe, die Plage hatte unter dem Volk angefangen; und er räucherte und erwirkte Sühne für das Volk;
So Aaron did what Moses/I told him. He took the burning incense out among the people. The plague had already started to strike the people, but Aaron continued to burn the incense so that God would forgive them for the sins they had committed.
48 und er stand zwischen den Toten und den Lebendigen: da ward der Plage gewehrt.
He stood between the people who had already died and those who were still alive, and then the plague stopped.
49 Es belief sich aber die Zahl der an der Plage Gestorbenen auf 14700, ausgenommen die, welche wegen der Sache Korahs starben.
But 14,700 people had already died from that plague/sickness, in addition to the people who died with Korah.
50 Und Aaron kam wieder zu Mose vor die Tür der Stiftshütte, nachdem der Plage gewehrt worden war.
Then after the plague had ended, Aaron and Moses/I returned to the entrance of the Sacred Tent.
