Nahum 3
1 Wehe der blutbefleckten Stadt, die voll ist von Lüge und Gewalttat und nicht aufhört zu rauben!
Woe to the city full of blood! It is all full of lies and stolen property; victims are always in her.
2 Peitschenknall und Rädergerassel, jagende Rosse und galoppierende Wagen!
But now there is the noise of whips and the sound of rattling wheels, prancing horses, and bounding chariots.
3 Stürmende Reiter, funkelnde Schwerter und blitzende Spieße! Viele Verwundete und Haufen von Erschlagenen, zahllose Leichen, so daß man darüber strauchelt.
There are attacking horsemen, flashing swords, glittering spears, heaps of corpses, great piles of bodies. There is no end to the bodies; their attackers stumble over them.
4 Um der großen Unzucht willen der Buhlerin, der anmutigen Zaubermeisterin, welche Völker mit ihrer Unzucht berückte und ganze Geschlechter mit ihrer Zauberei.

5 Siehe, ich will an dich, spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, und will dir deine Säume übers Gesicht ziehen, daß die Völker deine Blöße sehen und die Königreiche deine Schande.
“See, I am against you—this is the declaration of Yahweh of hosts—I will raise up your skirt over your face and show your private parts to the nations, your shame to the kingdoms.
6 Und ich will dich mit Unrat bewerfen und dich beschimpfen lassen und zur Schau stellen,
I will throw disgusting filth on you and make you vile; I will make you someone that everyone will look at.
7 daß alle, die dich sehen, von dir fliehen und sagen werden: «Verwüstet ist Ninive!» Wer will ihr Beileid bezeugen? Wo soll ich dir Tröster suchen?
It will come about that everyone who looks at you will flee from you and say, 'Nineveh is destroyed; who will weep for her?' Where can I find anyone to comfort you?”
8 Sollte es dir besser gehen als No-Amon, der Stadt am Nil, die rings vom Wasser umgeben war, deren Wehr das Meer bildete, deren Mauer die Flut war?
Nineveh, are you better than Thebes, that was built on the Nile River, that had water around her, whose defense was the ocean, whose wall was the sea itself?
9 Mohrenland war ihre Stärke. Ägypten, ja, ohne Zahl, Puth und Libien gehörten zu ihren Hilfsvölkern.
Cush and Egypt were her strength, and there was no end to it; Put and Libya were allies to her.
10 Dennoch mußte auch sie in die Gefangenschaft wandern, auch ihre Kindlein wurden an allen Straßenecken zerschmettert; man warf über ihre Angesehenen das Los, und alle ihre Großen wurden in Fesseln gelegt.
Yet Thebes was carried away; she went into captivity; her young children were dashed in pieces at the head of every street; her enemies threw lots for her honorable men, and all her great men were bound in chains.
11 So wirst auch du trinken müssen und umnachtet sein, auch du wirst eine Zuflucht suchen vor dem Feind!
You also will become drunk; you will try to hide, and you will also look for a refuge from your enemy.
12 Alle deine Festungen sind wie Feigenbäume mit Frühfeigen; wenn man sie schüttelt, so fallen sie dem, der essen will, in den Mund.
All your fortresses will be like fig trees with the earliest ripe figs: if they are shaken, they fall into the mouth of the eater.
13 Siehe, dein Volk ist zu Weibern geworden in deiner Mitte; deinen Feinden werden die Tore deines Landes geöffnet; Feuer hat deine Riegel verzehrt!
See, the people among you are women; the gates of your land have been opened wide to your enemies; fire has devoured their bars.
14 Schöpfe dir Wasser für die Belagerung! Verstärke deine Bollwerke! Tritt den Ton und stampfe den Lehm, nimm die Ziegelform zur Hand!
Go draw water for the siege; strengthen your fortresses; go into the clay and tread the mortar; pick up the molds for the bricks.
15 Dort wird das Feuer dich verzehren, das Schwert dich ausrotten; es wird dich verzehren wie junge Heuschrecken; denn du bist so zahlreich wie die jungen Heuschrecken, wie die Wanderheuschrecken hast du dich vermehrt!
Fire will devour you there, and the sword will destroy you. It will devour you as young locusts devour everything. Make yourselves as many as the young locusts, as many as the full-grown locusts.
16 Deiner Kaufleute sind mehr geworden als Sterne am Himmel; wie junge Heuschrecken häuten sie sich und fliegen davon.
You have multiplied your merchants more than the stars in the heavens; but they are like young locusts: they plunder the land and then fly away.
17 Deine Söldner sind wie die Heuschrecken, und deine Beamten gleichen den Käfern, die sich an kalten Tagen an der Mauer lagern; wenn aber die Sonne aufgeht, so fliegen sie davon, und niemand weiß, wohin sie gekommen sind.
Your princes are as many as the full-grown locusts, and your generals are like swarms of them that camp in the walls on a cold day. But when the sun rises they fly away to no one knows where.
18 Während deine Hirten schlummerten, deine Würdenträger schliefen, hat sich dein Volk, o König von Assur, über die Berge zerstreut, und niemand sammelt es mehr!
King of Assyria, your shepherds are asleep; your rulers are lying down resting. Your people are scattered on the mountains, and there is no one to gather them.
19 Dein Unglück wird durch nichts gemildert, unheilbar ist deine Wunde. Alle, die davon hören, klatschen in die Hände über dich; denn über wen ist nicht deine Bosheit ohne Unterlaß ergangen?
No healing is possible for your wounds. Your wounds are severe. Everyone who hears the news about you will clap their hands in joy over you. Who has escaped your constant wickedness?
