Maleachi 1
1 Dies ist der Ausspruch, das Wort des HERRN an Israel, durch die Hand Maleachis:
The word of the Lord to Israel by Malachi.
2 Ich habe euch Liebe erwiesen, spricht der HERR. So sprechet ihr: Womit hast du uns Liebe erwiesen?
You have been loved by me, says the Lord. But you say, Where was your love for us? Was not Esau Jacob's brother? says the Lord: but Jacob was loved by me,
3 Ist nicht Esau Jakobs Bruder? spricht der HERR. Dennoch habe ich Jakob geliebt, Esau aber habe ich gehaßt und sein Gebirge zur Wildnis gemacht und sein Erbteil den Schakalen der Wüste gegeben.
And Esau was hated, and I sent destruction on his mountains, and gave his heritage to the beasts of the waste land.
4 Wenn aber Edom spräche: «Wir sind zwar zerstört, wir wollen aber die Trümmer wieder aufbauen», so sagt der HERR der Heerscharen: Sie mögen bauen, ich aber will niederreißen; und man wird sie nennen: «Land der Gottlosigkeit» und «das Volk, über das der HERR ewiglich zürnt».
Though Edom says, We are crushed down but we will come back, building up the waste places; this is what the Lord of armies has said: They may put up buildings, but I will have them pulled down; and they will be named The land of evil-doing, and The people against whom the Lord keeps his wrath for ever.
5 Wenn eure Augen das sehen, so werdet ihr sagen: Der HERR sei hochgepriesen über Israels Grenzen hinaus!
And your eyes will see it; and you will say, The Lord is great even outside the limits of Israel.
6 Ein Sohn soll seinen Vater ehren und ein Knecht seinen Herrn! Bin ich nun Vater, wo ist meine Ehre? Bin ich Herr, wo ist die Furcht vor mir? spricht der HERR der Heerscharen zu euch Priestern, die ihr meinen Namen verächtlich macht.
A son gives honour to his father, and a servant has fear of his master: if then I am a father, where is my honour? and if I am a master, where is the fear of me? says the Lord of armies to you, O priests, who give no value to my name. And you say, How have we not given value to your name?
7 Und fragt ihr: «Womit haben wir deinen Namen verächtlich gemacht?» Damit, daß ihr auf meinem Altar verunreinigtes Brot darbringt! Fragt ihr aber: «Womit haben wir dich verunreinigt?» Damit, daß ihr sagt: «Der Tisch des HERRN ist geringzuschätzen!»
You put unclean bread on my altar. And you say, How have we made it unclean? By your saying, The table of the Lord is of no value.
8 Und wenn ihr ein blindes Tier zum Opfer bringt, ist das nichts Böses, und wenn ihr ein lahmes oder krankes darbringt, ist das auch nichts Böses? Bringe es doch deinem Statthalter! Wird er dir gnädig sein oder Rücksicht auf dich nehmen? spricht der HERR der Heerscharen.
And when you give what is blind for an offering, it is no evil! and when you give what is damaged and ill, it is no evil! Give it now to your ruler; will he be pleased with you, or will you have his approval? says the Lord of armies.
9 Und nun besänftiget doch das Angesicht Gottes, daß er uns gnädig sei! Wird er, weil solches von eurer Hand geschehen ist, auf jemand von euch Rücksicht nehmen?
And now, make request for the grace of God so that he may have mercy on us: this has been your doing: will he give his approval to any of you? says the Lord of armies.
10 Es schließe doch lieber gleich jemand von euch die Türen [des Tempels] zu, daß ihr nicht vergeblich mein Altarfeuer anzündet! Ich habe kein Wohlgefallen an euch, spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, und die Opfergabe, die von euren Händen kommt, gefällt mir nicht!
If only there was one among you who would see that the doors were shut, so that you might not put a light to the fire on my altar for nothing! I have no pleasure in you, says the Lord of armies, and I will not take an offering from your hands.
11 Denn vom Aufgang der Sonne bis zu ihrem Niedergang ist mein Name groß unter den Heiden, und allenthalben werden meinem Namen Räucherwerk und reine Opfergabe dargebracht; denn groß ist mein Name unter den Heiden, spricht der HERR der Heerscharen.
For, from the coming up of the sun till its going down, my name is great among the Gentiles; and in every place the smell of burning flesh is offered to my name, and a clean offering: for my name is great among the Gentiles, says the Lord of armies.
12 Ihr aber entheiligt ihn damit, daß ihr sagt: «Der Tisch des Herrn darf verunreinigt werden, und die Speise, die von ihm kommt, ist geringzuschätzen!»
But you make it unholy by saying, The Lord's table has become unclean, and his food is of no value.
13 Und ihr sprecht: «Siehe, ist es auch der Mühe wert?» Und ihr verachtet ihn, spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, und bringet Geraubtes und Lahmes und Krankes herbei und bringet solches als Opfergabe dar. Sollte ich das von eurer Hand wohlgefällig annehmen? spricht der Herr.
And you say, See, what a weariness it is! and you let out your breath at it, says the Lord of armies; and you have given what has been cut about by beasts, and what is damaged in its feet and ill; this is the offering you give: will this be pleasing to me from your hands? says the Lord.
14 Nein, verflucht sei der Betrüger, der in seiner Herde ein männliches Tier hat und ein Gelübde tut und dann doch dem Herrn ein schadhaftes opfert! Denn ich bin ein großer König, spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, und mein Name ist gefürchtet unter den Heiden.
A curse on the false man who has a male in his flock, and takes his oath, and gives to the Lord a damaged thing: for I am a great King, says the Lord of armies, and my name is to be feared among the Gentiles.
