Richter 1

1 Nach dem Tode Josuas fragten die Kinder Israel den HERRN und sprachen: Wer von uns soll zuerst ausziehen, den Krieg gegen die Kanaaniter zu beginnen?

And it came to pass, after the death of Joshua, that the sons of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying, —Who shall go up for us against the Canaanites, first, to make war upon them?

2 Der HERR sprach: Juda soll ausziehen! Siehe, ich habe das Land in seine Hand gegeben.

And Yahweh said—Judah, shall go, —lo! I have delivered the land into his power.

3 Da sprach Juda zu seinem Bruder Simeon: Zieh mit mir hinauf in mein Los und laß uns wider die Kanaaniter streiten, so will ich auch mit dir in dein Los ziehen! Also zog Simeon mit ihm.

Then said Judah, unto Simeon his brother—Come up with me into the territory allotted me, and let us make war on the Canaanites, then will, I also, go with thee, into thy territory. So Simeon went with him.

4 Als nun Juda hinaufzog, gab der HERR die Kanaaniter und Pheresiter in ihre Hand, und sie schlugen dieselben bei Besek, zehntausend Mann.

And Judah went up, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand, —and they smote them in Bezek, ten thousand men.

5 Und als sie den Adoni-Besek zu Besek fanden, stritten sie wider ihn und schlugen die Kanaaniter und Pheresiter.

And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek, and fought with him, —and smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.

6 Und Adoni-Besek floh; aber sie jagten ihm nach und ergriffen ihn und hieben ihm die Daumen und die großen Zehen ab.

But Adoni-bezek fled, and they pursued him, —and took him, and cut off his thumbs, and his great toes.

7 Da sprach Adoni-Besek: Siebzig Könige mit abgehauenen Daumen und großen Zehen lasen [ihr Brot] auf unter meinem Tisch. Wie ich getan habe, so hat mir Gott wieder vergolten! Und man brachte ihn gen Jerusalem; daselbst starb er.

Then said Adoni-bezek—Seventy kings, with their thumbs and great toes cut off, have been picking up crumbs under my table, as I have done, so, hath God requited me. And they brought him into Jerusalem, and he died there.

8 Aber die Kinder Juda stritten wider Jerusalem und eroberten es und schlugen die Einwohner mit der Schärfe des Schwertes und steckten die Stadt in Brand.

And the sons of Judah made war upon Jerusalem, and captured it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, —and, the city, they set on fire.

9 Darnach zogen die Kinder Juda hinab, um wider die Kanaaniter zu streiten, die auf dem Gebirge und im Süden und in der Ebene wohnten.

And, afterwards, the sons of Judah went down to make war upon the Canaanites, —dwelling in the hill country, and in the south, and in the lowland.

10 Juda zog auch wider die Kanaaniter, die zu Hebron wohnten; Hebron aber hieß vor Zeiten Kirjat-Arba; und sie schlugen Sesai und Achiman und Talmai.

And Judah went against the Canaanites who were dwelling in Hebron, now, the name of Hebron, formerly, was Kiriath-arba, —and they smote Sheshai and Ahiman, and Talmai.

11 Von dort zogen sie wider die Einwohner von Debir; Debir aber hieß vor Zeiten Kirjat-Sepher.

And he went from thence, against the inhabitants of Debir, —now, the name of Debir, formerly, was Kiriath-sepher.

12 Und Kaleb sprach: Wer Kirjat-Sepher schlägt und erobert, dem will ich meine Tochter Achsa zum Weibe geben!

And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and captureth it, I will give unto him Achsah my daughter, to wife.

13 Da gewann sie Otniel, der Sohn Kenas, Kalebs jüngerer Bruder. Und er gab ihm seine Tochter zum Weibe.

Then Othniel, son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother, captured it, —and he gave him Achsah his daughter, to wife.

14 Und es begab sich, als sie einzog, trieb sie ihn, von ihrem Vater ein Feld zu fordern. Und sie sprang vom Esel. Da sprach Kaleb zu ihr: Was willst du?

And it came pass, when she came, that she moved him to ask of her father a field, and, when she alighted from off the ass, Caleb said unto her—What aileth thee?

15 Sie sprach: Gib mir einen Segen! Denn du hast mir ein im Süden gelegenes Land gegeben; gib mir auch Wasserquellen! Da gab ihr Kaleb die obern und die untern Quellen.

And she said unto him—Give me a present; for, south land, hast thou given me, give me therefore pools of water. So Caleb gave her Upper-pools, and Lower-pools.

16 Und die Kinder des Keniters, des Schwiegervaters Moses, waren mit den Kindern Juda aus der Palmenstadt in die Wüste Juda hinaufgezogen, welche südlich von Arad liegt; und so gingen sie hin und wohnten bei dem Volk.

Now, the sons of the Kenite, father-in-law of Moses, had come up from the city of palm-trees, with the sons of Judah, into the wilderness of Judah, which is in the south of Arad, —so they went and dwelt with the people.

17 Juda aber zog hin mit seinem Bruder Simeon; und sie schlugen die Kanaaniter, welche in Zephat wohnten, und vollstreckten an ihnen den Bann und nannten die Stadt Horma.

Then went Judah, with Simeon his brother, and they smote the Canaanites dwelling in Zephath, —and devoted it to destruction, and the name of the city was called Hormah.

18 Dazu eroberte Juda Gaza samt seinem Gebiet, und Askalon samt seinem Gebiet, und Ekron samt seinem Gebiet.

And Judah captured Gaza with the boundaries thereof, and Ashkelon, with the boundaries thereof, —and Ekron, with the boundaries thereof.

19 Und der HERR war mit Juda, so daß er das Gebirge eroberte; aber die Bewohner der Ebene vermochte er nicht zu vertreiben; denn sie hatten eiserne Wagen.

And it same to pass that Yahweh was with Judah, and he took possession of the hill country, —but did not dispossess the inhabitants of the vale, because they had, chariots of iron.

20 Und sie gaben dem Kaleb Hebron, wie Mose gesagt hatte; der vertrieb daraus die drei Söhne Enaks.

So they gave unto Caleb Hebron, as spake Moses, —and he drave out from thence the three sons of Anak.

21 Aber die Kinder Benjamin vertrieben die Jebusiter nicht, die zu Jerusalem wohnten; sondern die Jebusiter wohnten bei den Kindern Benjamin zu Jerusalem bis auf diesen Tag.

But, the Jebusites dwelling in Jerusalem, the sons of Benjamin did not drive out, —but the Jebusites have dwelt with the sons of Benjamin, in Jerusalem, unto this day.

22 Auch das Haus Joseph zog hinauf, gen Bethel, und der HERR war mit ihnen.

Then went up the house of Joseph—they also, —unto Bethel, —and, Yahweh, was with them.

23 Und das Haus Joseph ließ Bethel auskundschaften; die Stadt hieß früher Lus.

And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel, —now, the name of the city, formerly, was, Luz.

24 Und die Späher sahen einen Mann aus der Stadt herauskommen und sprachen zu ihm: Zeige uns doch, wo wir in die Stadt eindringen können, so wollen wir dir Gnade erweisen!

So the watchers saw a man, coming forth from the city, —and they said unto him—Shew us, we pray thee, the way to get into the city, and we will deal with thee, in lovingkindness.

25 Da zeigte er ihnen, wo die Stadt zugänglich war, und sie schlugen die Stadt mit der Schärfe des Schwertes; den Mann aber und sein ganzes Geschlecht ließen sie gehen.

And he shewed them the way to get into the city, and they smote the city, with the edge of the sword, —but, the man and all his family, they let go.

26 Da zog der Mann in das Land der Hetiter und baute eine Stadt und hieß sie Lus; das ist ihr Name bis auf den heutigen Tag.

And the man went into the land of the Hittites, —and built a city, and called the name thereof, Luz, that, is the name thereof, unto this day.

27 Manasse aber vertrieb die Einwohner von Beth-Sean und seinen Dörfern nicht, auch weder diejenigen von Taenach und seinen Dörfern, noch die Bewohner von Dor und seinen Dörfern, noch die Bewohner von Jibleam und seinen Dörfern, noch die Bewohner von Megiddo und seinen Dörfern; sondern es gelang den Kanaanitern, in demselben Lande zu bleiben.

But Manasseh took not possession of Beth-shean and her towns, nor of Taanach and her towns, nor dispossessed the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam, and her towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo, and her towns, —but the Canaanites were determined to remain in this land;

28 Als aber Israel erstarkte, machte es die Kanaaniter fronpflichtig; aber vertreiben konnte es sie nicht.

when Israel, however, had waxed strong, they put the Canaanites under tribute, —though they, dispossessed, them not.

29 Auch Ephraim vertrieb die Kanaaniter nicht, die zu Geser wohnten; sondern die Kanaaniter blieben in Geser unter ihnen.

And, Ephraim, dispossessed not the Canaanites who were dwelling in Gezer, —so the Canaanites remained in their midst, in Gezer.

30 Sebulon vertrieb die Bewohner von Kitron nicht, auch nicht die Bewohner von Nahalol; daher wohnten die Kanaaniter unter ihnen und wurden fronpflichtig.

Zebulun, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol, —but the Canaanites remained in their midst, and came under tribute.

31 Asser vertrieb die Bewohner von Akko nicht, auch nicht die Bewohner von Zidon, Achelab, Achsib, Chelba, Aphik und Rechob;

Asher, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Zidon, —nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;

32 sondern Asser wohnte unter den Kanaanitern, die im Lande blieben; denn man vertrieb sie nicht.

but the Asherites dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —for they dispossessed them not.

33 Naphtali vertrieb weder die Bewohner von Beth-Semes noch die Einwohner von Beth-Anat, sondern wohnte unter den Kanaanitern, die das Land bewohnten; aber die Bewohner zu Beth-Semes und Beth-Anat wurden ihnen fronpflichtig.

Naphtali, dispossessed not the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath, but they dwelt in the midst of the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, —and, the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, and of Beth-anath, became theirs, under tribute.

34 Und die Amoriter drängten die Kinder Dan auf das Gebirge zurück und ließen sie nicht in die Ebene herabkommen.

And the Amorites forced the sons of Dan into the hill country, —for they suffered them not to come down into the vale;

35 Und es gelang den Amoritern, in Har-Heres, in Ajalon und in Saalbim zu bleiben; aber die Hand des Hauses Joseph ward ihnen zu schwer, und sie wurden fronpflichtig.

and, though the Amorites were determined to remain in the hill country of Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim, yet was the hand of the house of Joseph heavy, so that they came under tribute.

36 Und das Gebiet der Amoriter zog sich vom Skorpionensteig von Sela an aufwärts.

And, the boundary of the Amorites, was from the ascent of Akrabbim, from Sela and upwards.
