Josua 9

1 Als nun solches alle Könige hörten, die diesseits des Jordan, auf den Gebirgen und in den Tälern und an allen Gestaden des großen Meeres wohnten, dem Libanon gegenüber, die Hetiter, Amoriter, Kanaaniter, Pheresiter, Heviter und Jebusiter,

And it was when heard all the kings who [were] on [the] other side of the Jordan in the hill country and in the Shephelah and in all [the] coast of the sea great to [the] front of Lebanon the Hittite[s] and the Amorite[s] the Canaanite[s] the Perizzite[s] the Hivite[s] and the Jebusite[s].

2 versammelten sie sich einmütig, um wider Josua und wider Israel zu streiten.

And they gathered together all together to wage war with Joshua and with Israel mouth one.

3 Als aber die Einwohner zu Gibeon hörten, was Josua mit Jericho und Ai getan hatte, brauchten sie eine List,

And [the] inhabitants of Gibeon they heard [that] which he had done Joshua to Jericho and to Ai.

4 gingen hin und versahen sich mit Wegzehrung und nahmen alte Säcke auf ihre Esel und alte, zerrissene und geflickte Weinschläuche,

And they acted also they with cunning and they went and they acted as ambassadors and they took sacks worn out for donkeys their and skin-bottles of wine worn out and split and tied up.

5 auch alte und geflickte Schuhe an ihre Füße und zogen alte Kleider an, und alles Brot ihres Speisevorrats war hart und schimmlig.

And sandals worn out and patched [were] on feet their and garments worn out [were] on them and all [the] bread of provision[s] their it was dried up it was crumbs.

6 Und sie gingen zu Josua ins Lager gen Gilgal und sprachen zu ihm und zu den Männern Israels: Wir sind aus fernem Lande gekommen; so macht nun einen Bund mit uns!

And they went to Joshua to the camp Gilgal and they said to him and to [the] man of Israel from a land distant we have come and therefore make to us a covenant.

7 Da sprachen die Männer Israels zu den Hevitern: Vielleicht wohnst du in meiner Nähe; wie könnte ich da einen Bund mit dir machen?

(And he said *Q(K)*) [the] man of Israel to the Hivite[s] perhaps in midst my you [are] dwelling and how? (will I make *Q(k)*) to you a covenant.

8 Sie aber sprachen zu Josua: Wir sind deine Knechte! Josua sprach zu ihnen: Wer seid ihr, und woher kommt ihr?

And they said to Joshua [are] servants your we and he said to them Joshua who? [are] you and from where? do you come.

9 Sie sprachen zu ihm: Deine Knechte sind aus sehr fernem Lande gekommen um des Namens des HERRN, deines Gottes, willen; denn wir haben seine Kunde vernommen und alles, was er in Ägypten getan,

And they said to him from a land distant very they have come servants your to [the] name of Yahweh God your for we have heard [the] report of him and all that he did in Egypt.

10 auch alles, was er den beiden Königen der Amoriter jenseits des Jordan getan, Sihon, dem König zu Hesbon, und Og, dem Könige zu Basan, der zu Astarot wohnte.

And - all that he did to [the] two [the] kings of the Amorite[s] who [were] on [the] other side of the Jordan to Sihon [the] king of Heshbon and to Og [the] king of Bashan who [was] in Ashtaroth.

11 Darum sprachen unsere Ältesten und alle Einwohner unseres Landes zu uns also: Nehmet Speise mit euch auf die Reise und gehet hin, ihnen entgegen, und sprechet zu ihnen: Wir sind eure Knechte, so macht nun einen Bund mit uns!

And they said to us elders our and all [the] inhabitants of land our saying take in hand your provision[s] for the journey and go to meet them and you will say to them [are] servants your we and therefore make to us a covenant.

12 Dieses unser Brot, das wir zu unserm Speisevorrat aus unsern Häusern nahmen, war noch warm, als wir auszogen, um zu euch zu gehen; nun aber, siehe, ist es hart und schimmlig.

This - bread our warm we took as our provisions it from homes our on [the] day came out we to come to you and now here! it has dried up and it has been crumbs.

13 Und diese Weinschläuche waren neu, als wir sie füllten, und siehe, sie sind zerrissen. Und diese unsre Kleider und unsre Schuhe sind alt geworden von der sehr langen Reise.

And these [the] skin-bottles of wine which we filled new and here! they have split and these garments our and sandals our they have worn out from [the] greatness of the journey very.

14 Da nahmen die Männer [Israels] von ihrer Speise, fragten aber den Mund des HERRN nicht.

And they took the men some of provision[s] their and [the] mouth of Yahweh not they asked.

15 Und Josua machte Frieden mit ihnen und richtete einen Bund mit ihnen auf, daß sie am Leben bleiben sollten; und die Obersten der Gemeinde schwuren ihnen.

And he made to them Joshua peace and he made to them a covenant to let live them and they swore an oath to them [the] leaders of the congregation.

16 Aber nach drei Tagen, nachdem sie mit ihnen einen Bund gemacht hatten, hörten sie, daß jene aus ihrer Nähe wären und unter ihnen wohnten.

And it was from [the] end of three days after that they had made to them a covenant and they heard that [were] near they to him and in midst his they [were] dwelling.

17 Denn als die Kinder Israels fortzogen, kamen sie am dritten Tag zu ihren Städten; die hießen Gibeon, Kaphira, Beerot und Kirjat-Jearim.

And they set out [the] people of Israel and they came to cities their on the day third and cities their [were] Gibeon and Kephirah and Beeroth and Kiriath Jearim.

18 Und die Kinder Israel schlugen sie nicht, weil die Obersten der Gemeinde ihnen geschworen hatten bei dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels. Und die ganze Gemeinde murrte wider die Obersten.

And not they attacked them [the] people of Israel for they had sworn an oath to them [the] leaders of the congregation by Yahweh [the] God of Israel and they grumbled all the congregation on the leaders.

19 Da sprachen alle Obersten zu der ganzen Gemeinde: Wir haben ihnen geschworen bei dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels, darum können wir sie nicht angreifen.

And they said all the leaders to all the congregation we we have sworn an oath to them by Yahweh [the] God of Israel and therefore not we are able to touch them.

20 Aber das wollen wir ihnen tun: wir wollen sie leben lassen, damit nicht ein Zorn über uns komme um des Eides willen, den wir ihnen geschworen haben.

This we will do to them and we will let live them and not it will be towards us wrath on the oath which we swore to them.

21 Und die Obersten sprachen zu ihnen: Lasset sie leben, damit sie Holzhauer und Wasserschöpfer der ganzen Gemeinde werden, wie ihnen die Obersten gesagt hatten!

And they said to them the leaders let them live and they were cutters of wood and drawers of water for all the congregation just as they had spoken to them the leaders.

22 Da rief ihnen Josua und redete mit ihnen und sprach: Warum habt ihr uns betrogen und gesagt: «Wir sind sehr weit von euch weg», während ihr doch unter uns wohnt?

And he summoned them Joshua and he spoke to them saying why? did you deceive us saying [are] distant we from you very and you in midst our [are] dwelling.

23 Darum sollt ihr verflucht sein und nicht aufhören, Knechte und Holzhauer und Wasserschöpfer zu sein für das Haus meines Gottes!

And therefore [are] cursed you and not he will be cut off from you a slave and cutters of wood and drawers of water for [the] house of God my.

24 Sie antworteten Josua und sprachen: Es ist deinen Knechten als gewiß angezeigt worden, daß der HERR, dein Gott, Mose, seinem Knechte, geboten hat, euch das ganze Land zu geben und alle Einwohner des Landes vor euch her zu vertilgen; da fürchteten wir uns unseres Lebens halber sehr vor euch und haben darum solches getan.

And they answered Joshua and they said that certainly it was told to servants your this: he had commanded Yahweh God your Moses servant his to give to you all the land and to destroy all [the] inhabitants of the land from before you and we were afraid very for lives our because of you and we did the thing this.

25 Nun aber siehe, wir sind in deiner Hand; was dich gut und recht dünkt, uns zu tun, das tue!

And therefore here we [are] in hand your according to the good and according to the right in view your to do to us do.

26 Und er tat ihnen also und errettete sie von der Hand der Kinder Israel, daß sie dieselben nicht töteten.

And he did to them thus and he delivered them from [the] hand of [the] people of Israel and not they killed them.

27 Also machte sie Josua an jenem Tage zu Holzhauern und Wasserschöpfern der Gemeinde und für den Altar des HERRN, an dem Ort, den er erwählen würde; bis auf diesen Tag.

And he made them Joshua on the day that cutters of wood and drawers of water for the congregation and for [the] altar of Yahweh until the day this to the place which he will choose.
