Josua 4

1 Es begab sich aber, nachdem das ganze Volk vollends über den Jordan gekommen war, daß der HERR zu Josua also sprach:

And it came to pass, when all the nation had made an end of passing over the Jordan, that Yahweh slake unto Joshua, saying:

2 Nehmet euch aus dem Volke zwölf Männer, aus jedem Stamme einen,

Take unto you, from among the people, twelve men, one man severally from each tribe;

3 und gebietet ihnen und sprechet: Hebet mitten aus dem Jordan, von dem Orte, da die Füße der Priester gestanden haben, zwölf Steine auf und führet sie mit euch hinüber und lasset sie in dem Lager, wo ihr diese Nacht bleiben werdet!

and command ye them, saying, Take you up from hence, out of the midst of the Jordan, from the place where stood the feet of the priests with firm footing, twelve stones; —and carry them over with you, and lay them down in the lodging-place where ye shall lodge, tonight.

4 Da rief Josua den zwölf Männern, die er aus den Kindern Israel bestellt hatte, aus jedem Stamme einen, und sprach zu ihnen:

So Joshua called unto the twelve men whom he had made ready, from among the sons of Israel, —one man severally out of each tribe;

5 Gehet hinüber, vorn an die Lade des HERRN, eures Gottes, mitten in den Jordan, und hebet ein jeder einen Stein auf seine Achsel, nach der Zahl der Stämme der Kinder Israel,

and Joshua said unto them: Pass ye over, before the ark of Yahweh your God, into the midst of the Jordan, —and lift ye up, each man one stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel:

6 damit sie ein Zeichen unter euch seien. Und wenn eure Kinder künftig ihre Väter fragen und sagen werden: «Was haben diese Steine für euch zu bedeuten?»

that this may be a sign in your midst, —for your sons will ask in time to come, saying, What mean these stones to you?

7 so sollt ihr ihnen alsdann sagen, wie das Wasser des Jordan vor der Lade des Bundes des HERRN sich verteilt hat; als sie durch den Jordan gingen, haben sich die Wasser des Jordan zerteilt; darum sind diese Steine den Kindern Israel zum ewigen Gedächtnis gesetzt.

Then shall ye say unto them—That the waters of the Jordan, were cut off, from before the ark of the covenant of Yahweh, when it passed into the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan, were cut off. So shall these stones become a memorial unto the sons of Israel, unto times age-abiding.

8 Da taten die Kinder Israel, wie ihnen Josua geboten hatte, und trugen zwölf Steine mitten aus dem Jordan, wie der HERR Josua geboten hatte, nach der Zahl der Stämme der Kinder Israel, und brachten sie mit sich in das Nachtlager und ließen sie daselbst.

And the sons of Israel did so, as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as spake Yahweh unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel, —and carried them with them unto the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.

9 Und Josua richtete auch zwölf Steine mitten im Jordan auf, wo die Füße der Priester gestanden hatten, welche die Lade des Bundes trugen; sie sind noch daselbst bis auf diesen Tag.

Twelve stones also, did Joshua set up in the midst of the Jordan, in the place where stood the feet of the priests who were bearing the ark of the covenant, —and they have remained there until this day.

10 Die Priester aber, welche die Lade trugen, standen mitten im Jordan, bis alles ausgerichtet war, was der HERR Josua geboten hatte, dem Volke zu sagen, gemäß allem, was Mose dem Josua geboten hatte. Uns das Volk ging eilends hinüber.

Now, the priests who were bearing the ark, continued standing in the midst of the Jordan, until everything was finished which Yahweh commanded Joshua, to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses commanded Joshua, —the people therefore hasted, and passed over.

11 Als nun das ganze Volk völlig hinübergegangen war, zog die Lade des HERRN auch hinüber, und die Priester vor dem Volke her.

And so it was, as soon as all the people had made an end of passing over, —then passed over the ark of Yahweh, and the priests, in presence of the people.

12 Und die Rubeniter und Gaditer und der halbe Stamm Manasse gingen bewaffnet vor den Kindern Israel her, wie Mose zu ihnen geredet hatte.

Also the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh, passed over, armed, before the sons of Israel, —as Moses had spoken unto them:

13 Etwa vierzigtausend zum Krieg Gerüstete zogen vor dem HERRN zum Streit in die Ebene von Jericho.

about forty thousand, equipped for the war, passed over before Yahweh, to battle, into the waste plains of Jericho.

14 An demselben Tage machte der HERR den Josua groß vor den Augen von ganz Israel; und sie fürchteten ihn, wie sie Mose gefürchtet hatten, sein ganzes Leben lang.

On that day, did Yahweh magnify Joshua in the eyes of all Israel, —and they revered him, as they revered Moses, all the days of his life.

15 Und der HERR sprach zu Josua:

Then spake Yahweh unto Joshua, saying:

16 Gebiete den Priestern, welche die Lade des Zeugnisses tragen, daß sie aus dem Jordan heraufsteigen!

Command the priests who are bearing the ark of testimony, —that they come up out of the Jordan.

17 Also gebot Josua den Priestern und sprach: Steiget herauf aus dem Jordan!

So Joshua commanded the priests, saying, —Come ye up out of the Jordan.

18 Und als die Priester, welche die Lade des Bundes des HERRN trugen, aus dem Jordan heraufstiegen und mit ihren Fußsohlen auf das Trockene traten, kehrte das Wasser des Jordan wieder an seinen Ort zurück und trat wie zuvor über alle seine Ufer.

And it came to pass, when the priests who were bearing the ark of the covenant of Yahweh came up out of the midst of the Jordan, and the soles of the feet of the priests were withdrawn unto the dry ground, then returned the waters of the Jordan unto their place, and went, as before, over all his banks.

19 Es war aber der zehnte Tag des ersten Monats, als das Volk aus dem Jordan heraufstieg; und sie lagerten sich in Gilgal, an der Ostgrenze der Stadt Jericho.

So, the people, came up out of the Jordan, on the tenth of the first month, —and encamped in Gilgal, at the eastern end of Jericho.

20 Und Josua richtete die zwölf Steine, die sie aus dem Jordan genommen hatten, zu Gilgal auf

And, these twelve stones which they took out of the Jordan, did Joshua set up, in Gilgal.

21 und redete mit den Kindern Israel und sprach: Wenn in Zukunft eure Kinder ihre Väter fragen und sagen werden:

Then spake he unto the sons of Israel, saying, —When your sons shall ask, in time to come, of their fathers, saying, —What mean these stones?

22 Was bedeuten diese Steine? so sollt ihr es ihnen erklären und sagen: Israel ging auf trockenem Boden durch diesen Jordan,

then shall ye let your sons know, saying, —On dry ground, came Israel over this Jordan;

23 als der HERR, euer Gott, das Wasser des Jordan vor euch vertrocknen ließ, bis ihr hinübergegangen waret, wie der HERR, euer Gott, getan hat am Schilfmeer, das er vor uns vertrocknen ließ, bis wir hindurchgegangen waren;

in that Yahweh your God dried up the waters of the Jordan, from before you, until ye had passed over, —as Yahweh your God had done unto the Red Sea, which he dried up from before us, until we had passed over:

24 auf daß alle Völker auf Erden erkennen, wie mächtig die Hand des HERRN ist, und daß sie den HERRN, euren Gott, allezeit fürchten.

that all the peoples of the earth might know the hand of Yahweh, that, firm, it is; that they might revere Yahweh your God, all the days.
