Job 40
1 Also antwortete der HERR dem Hiob und sprach:
And Jehovah answered Job and said,
2 Will der Tadler mit dem Allmächtigen hadern? Wer Gott zurechtweisen will, antworte nun!
Shall he that will contend with the Almighty instruct [him]? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.
3 Da antwortete Hiob dem HERRN und sprach:
And Job answered Jehovah and said,
4 Siehe, ich bin zu gering; was soll ich Dir antworten? Ich will meine Hand auf meinen Mund legen!
Behold, I am nought: what shall I answer thee? I will lay my hand upon my mouth.
5 Ich habe einmal geredet und kann es nicht verantworten, und zum zweitenmal will ich es nicht mehr tun!
Once have I spoken, and I will not answer; yea twice, but I will proceed no further.
6 Und der HERR antwortete dem Hiob aus dem Wetter und sprach:
And Jehovah answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,
7 Gürte doch deine Lenden wie ein Mann; ich will dich fragen; sage her!
Gird up now thy loins like a man: I will demand of thee, and inform thou me.
8 Willst du mir mein Recht absprechen, mir Ungerechtigkeit nachweisen, damit du gerecht seiest?
Wilt thou also annul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me that thou mayest be righteous?
9 Ist denn dein Arm dem Arme Gottes gleich, oder sprichst du mit Donnerstimme wie er?
Hast thou an arm like God? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
10 Bekleide dich doch mit Macht und Majestät und umgib dich mit Herrlichkeit und Glanz!
Deck thyself now with glory and excellency, and clothe thyself with majesty and splendour.
11 Ergieße deines Zornes Fluten, siehe an jeden Stolzen und demütige ihn!
Cast abroad the ragings of thine anger, and look on every one that is proud, and abase him:
12 Siehe an jeden Stolzen, erniedrige ihn und reiß die Gottlosen herunter!
Look on every one that is proud, bring him low, and tread down the wicked in their place:
13 Begrabe sie miteinander im Staub, umhülle ihre Angesichter mit Finsternis!
Hide them in the dust together; bind their faces in secret.
14 Dann will auch ich dich preisen, daß deine Rechte dir geholfen hat.
Then will I also praise thee, because thy right hand saveth thee.
15 Siehe doch das Flußpferd, das ich gemacht habe wie dich: Gras frißt es wie ein Ochs!
See now the behemoth, which I made with thee: he eateth grass as an ox.
16 Siehe doch, welche Kraft in seinen Lenden liegt und welche Stärke in den Sehnen seines Bauches!
Behold now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the muscles of his belly.
17 Es biegt seinen Schweif wie eine Zeder; die Sehnen seiner Lenden sind fest verschlungen.
He bendeth his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are woven together.
18 Seine Knochen sind wie eiserne Röhren, seine Schenkel wie geschmiedete Stäbe.
His bones are tubes of bronze, his members are like bars of iron.
19 Es ist der Erstling der Wege Gottes; der es gemacht hat, reichte ihm sein Schwert.
He is the chief of God's ways: he that made him gave him his sword.
20 Denn Futter tragen ihm die Berge, wo alle Tiere des Feldes spielen.
For the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
21 Unter Lotosgebüschen liegt es, versteckt im Rohr und Sumpf.
He lieth under lotus-bushes, in the covert of the reed and fen:
22 Lotosgebüsche decken es mit ihrem Schatten, die Weiden des Baches umgeben es.
Lotus-bushes cover him with their shade; the willows of the brook surround him.
23 Siehe, der Strom tritt über seine Ufer! Es fürchtet sich nicht; es bleibe wohl ruhig, wenn ein Jordan sich in seinen Mund ergöße!
Lo, the river overfloweth — he startleth not: he is confident though a Jordan break forth against his mouth.
24 Fängt man es wohl vor seinen Augen? Kann man mit Stricken seine Nase durchbohren?
Shall he be taken in front? will they pierce through [his] nose in the trap?
