Job 39
1 Kennst du die Zeit, da die Steinböcke gebären, oder hast du beobachtet, wann die Hindinnen werfen?
[Say] if you know the time of the bringing forth of the wild goats of the rock, and [if] you have marked the calving of the hinds:
2 Zählst du die Monde, die sie erfüllen sollen, und weißt du die Zeit ihres Gebärens?
and [if] you has have numbered the full months of their being with young, and [if] you have relieved their pangs:
3 Sie legen sich nieder, werfen ihre Jungen und sind ihrer Wehen los.
and have reared their young without fear; and will you loosen their pangs?
4 Ihre Jungen erstarken, wachsen im Freien auf, verlassen sie und kommen nicht mehr zurück.
Their young will break forth; they will be multiplied with offspring: [their young] will go forth, and will not return to them.
5 Wer hat den Wildesel frei laufen lassen, und wer hat die Bande des Wildlings aufgelöst,
And who is he that sent forth the wild ass free? and who loosed his bands?
6 dem ich die Steppe zur Wohnung angewiesen habe, das salzige Land zum Aufenthalt?
whereas I made his habitation the wilderness, and the salt land his coverts.
7 Er lacht der lärmenden Stadt, und das Geschrei des Treibers hört er nicht;
He laughs to scorn the multitude of the city, and hears not the chiding of the tax-gatherer.
8 er ersieht die Berge zu seiner Weide und läuft allen grünen Kräutern nach.
He will survey the mountains [as] his pasture, and he seeks after every green thing.
9 Wird der Büffel willig sein, dir zu dienen? Bleibt er an deiner Krippe über Nacht?
And will the unicorn be willing to serve you, or to lie down at your manger?
10 Kannst du den Büffel mit einem Stricke binden, daß er dir Furchen mache oder hinter dir her den Talgrund egge?
And will you bind his yoke with thongs, or will he plow furrows for you in the plain?
11 Vertraust du ihm wegen seiner großen Kraft und überlässest du ihm deine Arbeit?
And do you trust him, because his strength is great? and will you commit your works to him?
12 Rechnest du auf ihn, daß er dir deine Ernte einbringe oder deine Tenne fülle?
And will you believe that he will return to you your seed, and bring [it] in [to] your threshing floor?
13 Die Straußin schwingt fröhlich ihre Flügel; sind es aber fromme Schwingen und Federn?
The peacock has a beautiful wing: if the stork and the ostrich conceive, [it is worthy of notice],
14 Nein, sie überläßt ihre Eier der Erde und läßt sie im Sande ausbrüten.
for [the ostrich] will leave her eggs in the ground, and warm them on the dust,
15 Sie vergißt, daß ein Fuß sie zertreten und ein wildes Tier sie verderben kann.
and has forgotten that the foot will scatter them, and the wild beasts of the field trample them.
16 Sie ist hart gegen ihre Jungen, als gehörten sie ihr nicht; es macht ihr keinen Kummer, wenn sie sich umsonst abgemüht hat;
She has hardened [herself] against her young ones, as though [she bereaved] not herself: she labors in vain without fear.
17 denn Gott hat ihr die Weisheit versagt und ihr keinen Verstand zugeteilt.
For God has withholden wisdom from her, and not given her a portion in understanding.
18 Zur Zeit, da sie ihre Flügel in die Höhe schlägt, verlacht sie Roß und Reiter.
In her season she will lift herself on high; she will scorn the horse and his rider.
19 Hast du dem Roß Stärke verliehen und seinen Hals mit der flatternden Mähne umhüllt?
Hast you invested the horse with strength, and clothed his neck with terror?
20 Lehrst du es springen wie eine Heuschrecke, daß sein stolzes Schnauben furchtbar klingt?
And have you clad him in perfect armor, and made his breast glorious with courage?
21 Es scharrt den Boden, freut sich seiner Stärke und läuft den Waffen entgegen;
He paws exulting in the plain, and goes forth in strength into the plain.
22 es lacht der Furcht, ist unverzagt und weicht vor dem Schwerte nicht zurück;
He laughs to scorn a king as he meets him, and will by no means turn back from the sword.
23 über ihm klirrt der Köcher, blitzen Speer und Wurfspieß.
The bow and sword resound against him; and [his] rage will swallow up the ground:
24 Es scharrt den Boden mit Ungestüm und bleibt nicht stehen, wenn die Posaune ertönt;
and he will not believe until the trumpet sounds.
25 sobald die Posaune erklingt, spricht es: Hui! Von ferne wittert es die Schlacht, die Donnerstimme der Führer und das Feldgeschrei.
And when the trumpet sounds, he says, Aha! and afar off he smells the war with prancing and neighing.
26 Macht es dein Verstand, daß der Habicht fliegt und seine Flügel gen Süden ausbreitet?
And does the hawk remain steady by your wisdom, having spread out her wings unmoved, looking toward the region of the south?
27 Schwingt sich auf dein Geheiß der Adler empor und legt sein Nest in der Höhe an?
And does the eagle rise at your command, and the vulture remain sitting over his nest,
28 Er wohnt in Felsspalten und horstet auf Klippen und Bergesspitzen.
on a crag of a rock, and in a secret [place]?
29 Von dort aus erspäht er sich Beute, seine Augen schweifen weit umher;
Thence he seeks food, his eyes observe from far.
30 seine Jungen schlürfen Blut, und wo ein Aas ist, da ist er.
And his young ones roll themselves in blood, and wherever the carcasses may be, immediately they are found.
