Job 22
1 Darauf antwortete Eliphas, der Temaniter, und sprach:
Then responded Eliphaz the Temanite, and said: —
2 Mag auch ein Mann Gott etwas nützen? Es nützt ja der Verständige nur sich selbst.
Unto GOD, can a man act as friend? Surely a discreet man befriendeth himself!
3 Hat der Allmächtige Freude, wenn du gerecht bist? Ist's ihm ein Gewinn, wenn du in Unschuld wandelst?
Is it a pleasure to the Almighty, that thou shouldst be righteous? or any profit, that thou shouldst be blameless in thy ways?
4 Straft er dich wegen deiner Gottesfurcht, und geht er darum mit dir ins Gericht?
Is it, for thy reverence, that he will accuse thee? will enter with thee into judgment?
5 Sind nicht deine Missetaten groß und deine Schulden ohne Ende?
Is not, thy wickedness, great? and, without end, [are not] thine iniquities?
6 Du hast wohl deine Brüder gepfändet und den Entblößten die Kleider ausgezogen;
Surely then hast been wont to put thy brother in pledge, for nothing, and, the garments of the ill-clad, hast thou stripped off:
7 vielleicht hast du dem Müden kein Wasser zu trinken gegeben oder dem Hungrigen das Brot versagt.
No water—to the weary, hast thou given to drink, and, from the hungry, thou hast withheld bread:
8 Der Mächtige hat das Land bekommen, und der Angesehene wohnte darin.
A man of might, to him, pertaineth the land, and, the favorite, dwelleth therein:
9 Du hast Witwen leer fortgeschickt und die Arme der Waisen zusammenbrechen lassen.
Widows, thou hast sent away empty, and, the arms of the fatherless, thou dost crush.
10 Darum liegst du in Banden und hat Furcht dich plötzlich überfallen.
For this cause, round about thee, are snares, and a dread startleth thee suddenly;
11 Oder siehst du die Finsternis nicht und die Wasserflut, die dich bedeckt?
Or darkness—thou canst not see, and, a flood of waters, covereth thee.
12 Ist Gott nicht himmelhoch? Siehe doch die höchsten Sterne, wie hoch sie stehen!
Is not, GOD, [in] the height of the heavens? Behold, then, the head of the stars, that they are high.
13 Und du denkst: «Was weiß Gott! Sollte er hinter dem Dunkel richten?
Wilt thou say then, What doth GOD know? Out through a thick cloud, can he judge?
14 Die Wolken hüllen ihn ein, daß er nicht sehen kann, und er wandelt auf dem Himmelsgewölbe umher!»
Dark clouds, are a veil to him, and he cannot see, or, the vault of the heavens, doth he walk?
15 Willst du den alten Weg befolgen, den die Bösewichte gegangen sind,
The path of the ancient time, wilt thou mark, which the men of iniquity trod?
16 die weggerafft wurden von der Flut, deren Fundament der Strom wegriß,
Who were snatched away before the time, and, a stream, washed away their foundation?
17 die zu Gott sprachen: «Hebe dich weg von uns!» und «was könnte der Allmächtige einem tun?»
Who had been saying unto GOD, Depart from us! and—What can the Almighty do for himself?
18 Und er hatte doch ihre Häuser mit Gütern erfüllt! Doch der Gottlosen Rat sei fern von mir!
Yet, he, had filled their houses with good! The counsel of the lawless, then, is far from me:
19 Die Gerechten werden es sehen und sich freuen, und der Unschuldige wird ihrer spotten:
The righteous shall see and rejoice, and, the innocent, shall laugh them to scorn:
20 «Fürwahr, unsere Widersacher werden vertilgt, und das Feuer hat ihren Überrest verzehrt.»
If our assailants do not vanish, then, their abundance, a fire consumeth!
21 Befreunde dich doch mit Ihm und mache Frieden! Dadurch wird Gutes über dich kommen.
Shew thyself to be one with him—I pray thee—and prosper, thereby, shall there come on thee blessing.
22 Nimm doch Belehrung an aus seinem Mund und lege seine Worte in dein Herz!
Accept, I beseech thee, from his mouth—instruction, —and lay up his sayings in thy heart.
23 Wenn du dich zu dem Allmächtigen kehrst, so wirst du aufgerichtet werden, wenn du die Ungerechtigkeit aus deiner Hütte entfernst.
If thou return unto the Almighty and submit thyself, if thou far remove perversity from thy tent,
24 Wirf das Gold in den Staub und das Ophirgold zu den Steinen der Bäche,
Then lay up, in the dust, precious ore, and, among the stones of the torrent-beds, fine gold:
25 so wird der Allmächtige dein Gold und dein glänzendes Silber sein!
So shall, the Almighty, become, thy precious ores, yea glittering silver unto thee!
26 Dann wirst du dich an dem Allmächtigen ergötzen und dein Angesicht zu Gott erheben;
For, then, in the Almighty, shalt thou take exquisite delight, and shalt lift up—unto GOD—thy face;
27 du wirst zu ihm flehen, und er wird dich erhören, und du wirst deine Gelübde bezahlen.
Thou shalt make entreaty unto him, and he will hear thee, and, thy vows, shalt thou pay;
28 Was du vornimmst, das wird dir gelingen, und ein Licht wird auf deinen Wegen leuchten.
And thou shalt decree a purpose, and it shall be fulfilled unto thee, and, upon thy ways, shall have shone a light;
29 Führen sie abwärts, so wirst du sagen: «Es geht empor!» Und wer die Augen niederschlägt, den wird er retten.
When men cast themselves down, then thou shalt say: Up! And, him that is of downcast eyes, shall he save;
30 Er wird [selbst] den freilassen, der nicht unschuldig ist: durch die Reinheit deiner Hände wird er entrinnen.
He shall deliver the innocent, and thou shalt escape by the pureness of thy hands.
