Job 2
1 Es kam aber ein Tag, da die Söhne Gottes sich vor dem HERRN zu stellen pflegten; da erschien unter ihnen auch der Satan, um sich vor dem HERRN zu stellen.
And it came to pass, when on a certain day the sons of God came, and stood before the Lord, and Satan came among them, and stood in his sight,
2 Da sprach der HERR zum Satan: Wo kommst du her? Satan antwortete dem HERRN und sprach: Vom Durchstreifen der Erde und vom Umherwandeln darauf.
That the Lord said to Satan: Whence comest thou? And he answered and said: I have gone round about the earth, and walked through it.
3 Da sprach der HERR zum Satan: Hast du meinen Knecht Hiob beachtet? Denn seinesgleichen ist auf Erden nicht, ein so ganzer und gerader Mann, der Gott fürchtet und vom Bösen weicht; und noch hält er fest an seiner Vollkommenheit, obschon du mich gereizt hast, ihn ohne Ursache zu verderben.
And the Lord said to Satan: Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a man simple, and upright, and fearing God, and avoiding evil, and still keeping his innocence? But thou hast moved me against him, that I should afflict him without cause.
4 Satan antwortete dem HERRN und sprach: Haut für Haut; und alles, was der Mensch hat, gibt er für sein Leben.
And Satan answered, and said: Skin for skin, and all that a man hath he will give for his life:
5 Aber strecke doch deine Hand aus und taste ihn selbst an und sein Fleisch, so wird er dir sicher ins Angesicht den Abschied geben!
But put forth thy hand, and touch his bone and his flesh, and then thou shalt gee that he will bless thee to thy face.
6 Da sprach der HERR zum Satan: Siehe, er ist in deiner Hand; nur schone seines Lebens!
And the Lord said to Satan: Behold be is in thy hand, but yet save his life.
7 Da ging der Satan aus von dem Angesicht des HERRN und plagte Hiob mit bösen Geschwüren von der Fußsohle bis zum Scheitel,
So Satan went forth from the presence Of the Lord, and struck Job with a very grievous ulcer, from the sole of the foot even to the top of his head:
8 also daß Hiob eine Scherbe nahm, um sich damit zu kratzen, und sich in den Aschenhaufen setzte.
And he took a potsherd and scraped the corrupt matter, sitting on a dunghill.
9 Da sprach sein Weib zu ihm: Hältst du noch fest an deiner Vollkommenheit? Sage dich los von Gott und stirb!
And his wife said to him: Dost thou still continue in thy simplicity? bless God and die.
10 Er aber sprach zu ihr: Du redest, wie ein törichtes Weib redet. Haben wir Gutes empfangen von Gott, sollten wir das Böse nicht auch annehmen? Bei alledem versündigte sich Hiob nicht mit seinen Lippen.
And he said to her: Thou hast; spoken like one of the foolish women: if we have received good things at the hand of God, why should we not receive evil? In all these things Job did not sin with his lips.
11 Als aber die drei Freunde Hiobs all das Unglück vernahmen, das über ihn gekommen war, kamen sie, ein jeder von seinem Ort, nämlich Eliphas, der Temaniter, und Bildad, der Schuchiter, und Zophar, der Naamatiter; diese kamen überein, miteinander hinzugehen, ihn zu beklagen und zu trösten.
Now when Job’s three friends heard all the evil that had befallen him, they came every one from his own place, Alphas the Themanite, and Baldad the Suhite, and Sophar the Naamathite. For they had made an appointment to come together and visit him, and comfort him.
12 Und als sie von ferne ihre Augen erhoben, erkannten sie ihn nicht mehr. Da erhoben sie ihre Stimme und weinten; und sie zerrissen ein jeder sein Kleid und sprengten Staub über ihre Häupter gen Himmel.
And when they had lifted up their eyes afar off, they knew him not, and crying out they wept, and rending their garments they sprinkled dust upon their heads towards heaven.
13 Dann setzten sie sich zu ihm auf den Erdboden sieben Tage und sieben Nächte lang, und keiner redete ein Wort zu ihm; denn sie sahen, daß der Schmerz sehr groß war.
And they sat with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no man spoke to him a word: for they saw that his grief was very great.
