Job 14
1 Der Mensch, vom Weibe geboren, lebt kurze Zeit und ist voll Unruhe.
Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.
2 Wie eine Blume blüht er und verwelkt; gleich einem Schatten flieht er und hat keinen Bestand.
He cometh forth like a flower, and withereth; he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.
3 Und über einem solchen tust du deine Augen auf und gehst mit mir ins Gericht?
And dost Thou open Thine eyes upon such a one, and bringest me into judgment with Thee?
4 Gibt es einen Reinen unter den Unreinen? Keinen einzigen!
Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.
5 Wenn doch seine Tage und die Zahl seiner Monde bei dir bestimmt sind und du ihm ein Ziel gesetzt hast, das er nicht überschreiten kann,
Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months is with Thee, and Thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;
6 so schaue doch weg von ihm und laß ihn in Ruhe, bis er seines Tages froh werde wie ein Tagelöhner!
Look away from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as a hireling, his day.
7 Denn für einen Baum ist Hoffnung vorhanden: wird er abgehauen, so sproßt er wieder, und sein Schößling bleibt nicht aus.
For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.
8 Wenn seine Wurzel in der Erde auch alt wird und sein Stumpf im Staub erstirbt,
Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;
9 so grünt er doch wieder vom Duft des Wassers und treibt Schosse hervor, als wäre er neu gepflanzt.
Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and put forth boughs like a plant.
10 Der Mann aber stirbt und ist dahin, der Mensch vergeht, und wo ist er?
But man dieth, and lieth low; yea, man perisheth, and where is he?
11 Wie Wasser zerrinnen aus dem See und ein Strom vertrocknet und versiegt,
As the waters fail from the sea, and the river is drained dry;
12 also legt sich auch der Mensch nieder und steht nicht wieder auf; bis keine Himmel mehr sind, regen sie sich nicht und wachen nicht auf aus ihrem Schlaf.
So man lieth down and riseth not; till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be roused out of their sleep.
13 O daß du mich doch im Scheol verstecktest, daß du mich verbärgest, bis dein Zorn sich wendet; daß du mir eine Frist setztest und dann meiner wieder gedächtest! (Sheol h7585)
Oh that Thou wouldest hide me in the nether-world, that Thou wouldest keep me secret, until Thy wrath be past, that Thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me! — (Sheol h7585)
14 Wenn der Mensch stirbt, wird er wieder leben? Die ganze Zeit meines Kriegsdienstes würde ich harren, bis meine Ablösung käme.
If a man die, may he live again? All the days of my service would I wait, till my relief should come —
15 Dann würdest du rufen, und ich würde dir antworten; nach dem Werk deiner Hände würdest du dich sehnen.
Thou wouldest call, and I would answer Thee; Thou wouldest have a desire to the work of Thy hands.
16 Nun aber zählst du meine Schritte. Achtest du nicht auf meine Sünde?
But now Thou numberest my steps, Thou dost not even wait for my sin;
17 Versiegelt ist meine Übertretung in einem Bündlein, und du hast zugeklebt meine Schuld.
My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and Thou heapest up mine iniquity.
18 Doch stürzen ja auch Berge ein und sinken dahin, und Felsen weichen von ihrem Ort, das Wasser höhlt Steine aus,
And surely the mountain falling crumbleth away, and the rock is removed out of its place;
19 und die Flut schwemmt das Erdreich fort; also machst du auch die Hoffnung des Sterblichen zunichte;
The waters wear the stones; the overflowings thereof wash away the dust of the earth; so Thou destroyest the hope of man.
20 du überfällst ihn unaufhörlich, und er fährt dahin, du entstellst sein Angesicht und jagst ihn fort.
Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth; Thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.
21 Ob seine Kinder zu Ehren kommen, weiß er nicht, und kommen sie herunter, so wird er dessen nicht gewahr.
His sons come to honour, and he knoweth it not; and they are brought low, but he regardeth them not.
22 Sein Fleisch empfindet nur seine eigenen Schmerzen, und seine Seele trauert nur über sich selbst!
But his flesh grieveth for him, and his soul mourneth over him.
