Job 10
1 Meiner Seele ekelt vor dem Leben; ich will mich meiner Klage überlassen, will reden in der Betrübnis meiner Seele.
Weary in my soul, I will pour my words with groans upon him: I will speak being straitened in the bitterness of my soul.
2 Ich spreche zu Gott: Verdamme mich nicht! Tue mir kund, weshalb du mich befehdest.
And I will say to the Lord, Do not teach me to be impious; and therefore have you thus judged me?
3 Dünkt es dich gut, das Werk deiner Hände zu unterdrücken und zu verwerfen, während du über den Rat der Gottlosen dein Licht leuchten lässest?
Is it good before you if I be unrighteous? for you have disowned the work of your hands, and attended to the counsel of the ungodly.
4 Hast du Fleischesaugen, oder siehst du, wie ein Sterblicher sieht?
Or do you see as a mortal sees? or will you look as a man sees?
5 Sind denn deine Tage wie Menschentage, deine Jahre den Jahren eines Mannes gleich,
Or is your life human, or your years [the years] of a man,
6 daß du nach meiner Schuld forschest und nach meiner Sünde fragst,
that you have enquired into mine iniquity, and searched out my sins?
7 da du doch weißt, daß ich unschuldig bin und mich niemand aus deiner Hand erretten kann?
For you know that I have not committed iniquity: but who is he that can deliver out of your hands?
8 Deine Hände haben mich gebildet und gemacht ganz und gar, und du wolltest mich nun vernichten?
Your hands have formed me and made me; afterwards you did change [your mind], and strike me.
9 Gedenke doch, daß du mich wie Ton gebildet hast; willst du mich wieder in Staub verwandeln?
Remember that you have made me [as] clay, and you do turn me again to earth.
10 Hast du mich nicht wie Milch hingegossen und wie Käse mich gerinnen lassen?
Hast you not poured me out like milk, and curdled me like cheese?
11 Mit Haut und Fleisch hast du mich bekleidet, mit Gebeinen und Sehnen mich durchwoben.
And you did clothe me with skin and flesh, and frame me with bones and sinews.
12 Leben und Gnade hast du mir geschenkt, und deine Obhut bewahrte meinen Geist.
And you did bestow upon me life and mercy, and your oversight has preserved my spirit.
13 Und doch hegst du solches in deinem Herzen; ich weiß, daß es bei dir so beschlossen ist, daß,
Having these things in yourself, I know that you can do all things; for nothing is impossible with you.
14 wenn ich sündigte, du darauf achten und mich nicht lossprechen würdest von meiner Missetat!
And if I should sin, you watch me; and you have not cleared me from iniquity.
15 Habe ich Übles getan, dann wehe mir! Und bin ich im Recht, so darf ich mein schmachbedecktes Haupt doch nicht erheben, sondern muß mich satt sehen an meinem Elend!
Or if I should be ungodly, woe is me: and if I should be righteous, I can’t lift myself up, for I am full of dishonor.
16 Wagt es aber, sich zu erheben, so verfolgst du mich wie ein Löwe und handelst noch unbegreiflicher mit mir;
For I am hunted like a lion for slaughter; for again you have changed and are terribly destroying me;
17 du stellst neue Zeugen wider mich auf, mehrst deinen Zorn gegen mich, bietest stets frische Scharen, ja ein Heer wider mich auf!
renewing against me my torture: and you have dealt with me in great anger, and you have brought trials upon me.
18 Warum hast du mich aus dem Mutterleibe hervorgebracht? Wäre ich doch umgekommen, ohne daß mich ein Auge gesehen hätte!
Why then did you bring me out of the womb? and why did I not die, and no eye see me,
19 So würde ich sein, als wäre ich niemals gewesen, vom Mutterleibe weg ins Grab gelegt.
and I become as if I had not been? for why was I not carried from the womb to the grave?
20 Ist meine Lebenszeit nicht kurz genug? Er stehe doch ab, lasse ab von mir, daß ich mich ein wenig erhole,
Is not the time of my life short? suffer me to rest a little,
21 ehe ich dahinfahre auf Nimmerwiederkehren ins Land der Finsternis und des Todesschattens,
before I go whence I shall not return, to a land of darkness and gloominess;
22 an den dunkeln Ort, wo Finsternis und keine Ordnung herrscht, und wo der Tag nicht heller ist als die Nacht!
to a land of perpetual darkness, where there is no light, neither [can any one] see the life of mortals.
