Jeremia 44
1 Dies ist das Wort, welches an Jeremia erging betreffs aller Juden, die im Lande Ägypten wohnten, zu Migdol und Tachpanches, zu Noph und im Lande Patros:
[This is] the message that Yahweh gave me concerning the Jews who were living in [northern] Egypt—in Migdol, Tahpenes, and Memphis [cities], and in the Pathros [region in southern Egypt]:
2 So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Ihr habt all das Unglück gesehen, welches ich über Jerusalem und alle Städte Judas gebracht habe, und siehe, sie sind heute Ruinen, und es wohnt niemand darin,
“This is what [I], the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [you] Israelis [say you belong to], say: ‘You saw the disaster that I caused [the people in] Jerusalem and the other towns in Judah to experience. Those towns are now ruined and deserted.
3 um der Bosheit willen, die sie begangen haben, mich zu erzürnen, indem sie hingegangen sind, andern Göttern zu räuchern und zu dienen, die weder sie, noch ihr, noch eure Väter gekannt haben,
[That happened] because I was extremely angry with them on account of their being very wicked. They burned incense to other gods and worshiped them. They were gods that you [previously] did not know about, and your ancestors also [did not know about them].
4 wiewohl ich alle meine Knechte frühe und fleißig zu euch gesandt habe und euch sagen ließ: Begeht doch diese Greuel nicht, welche ich hasse!
Many times I sent my prophets who served me, to say to them, “Do not do those abominable things that I hate!”
5 Sie aber wollten nicht hören und neigten ihr Ohr nicht, daß sie von ihrer Bosheit abgelassen und nicht mehr fremden Göttern geräuchert hätten.
But my people would not pay any attention [DOU] [to what I said to them]. They would not turn away from their wicked behavior, or stop burning incense to [worship/honor] other gods.
6 Darum hat sich mein Grimm ergossen und ist mein Zorn wider die Städte Judas und die Gassen Jerusalems entbrannt, daß sie zu Trümmern und Ruinen geworden sind, wie es heute der Fall ist.
So I poured out my anger [MTY] on them. I punished people on the streets of Jerusalem and on the [other] towns in Judah. It caused those towns to be ruined and deserted, and they are still like that.’
7 Und nun spricht der HERR, der Gott der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels, also: Warum tut ihr ein so großes Übel wider euch selbst, indem ihr bei euch Männer und Weiber, Kinder und Säuglinge aus Juda ausrottet, so daß euch kein Überrest mehr bleiben wird,
So now [I], the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [you] Israelis [say you belong to], ask you: ‘Why are you causing yourselves to experience these disasters? [Do you not realize that because of what you are doing], soon there will be no more men or women or children or infants left among you [who have come here to Egypt] from Judah?
8 damit nämlich, daß ihr mich durch die Werke eurer Hände kränket, indem ihr andern Göttern räuchert im Lande Ägypten, wohin ihr gegangen seid, um euch daselbst aufzuhalten, euch selbst zum Verderben, und damit ihr zum Fluch und Schimpfwort werdet unter allen Heiden des Landes?
Why are you [RHQ] provoking me and causing me to be very angry by burning incense to the idols that you have made here in Egypt? [If you continue doing this, ] you will destroy yourselves, and you will cause yourselves to be people whom all the nations on the earth will curse and despise.
9 Habt ihr denn die Übeltaten eurer Väter vergessen und die Übeltaten der Könige von Juda und die Übeltaten ihrer Weiber und eure eigenen Übeltaten und die Übeltaten, welche eure Weiber im Lande Juda und auf den Gassen von Jerusalem begangen haben?
Have you forgotten [how I punished] your ancestors for the wicked things that they did, and [how I punished] the kings and queens of Judah for what they did, and you and your wives for the sins that you committed in the streets of Jerusalem and [the other towns] in Judah?
10 Sie sind noch nicht gedemütigt bis zum heutigen Tag; sie fürchten sich nicht und wandeln nicht in meinem Gesetz und in meinen Ordnungen, die ich euch und euren Vätern gegeben habe!
Up until this day you have not humbled yourselves or revered me. You have not obeyed the laws and decrees [DOU] that I gave to you and your ancestors.’
11 Darum spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels, also: Seht, ich habe mein Angesicht gegen euch gerichtet zum Unglück, und zwar um ganz Juda auszurotten;
Therefore, this is what [I], the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [you] Israelis [say you belong to], say: ‘I am determined to cause all of you to experience disasters and to get rid of every one of you.
12 und ich will den Rest der Juden, die ihr Angesicht nach Ägypten gewandt haben, um sich daselbst aufzuhalten, hinwegraffen; sie sollen alle im Lande Ägypten aufgerieben werden, durchs Schwert fallen, durch Hunger aufgerieben werden klein und groß, durchs Schwert umkommen oder Hungers sterben, und sie sollen zum Fluch, zum Entsetzen, zur Verwüstung und zur Beschimpfung werden.
[You] people from Judah who have survived were determined to come and live here in Egypt. So I will get rid of all of you here in Egypt. Every one of you will die, including those who are important and those who are not important. [Some of] you will be killed by [your enemies’] swords, [some will die] from famines. You will become [people whom others] curse, be horrified about, and make fun of.
13 Also will ich die, so in Ägypten wohnen, heimsuchen, wie ich Jerusalem mit Schwert, Hungersnot und Pest heimgesucht habe,
I will punish you here in Egypt like I punished [others in] Jerusalem, [some of whom were killed] by [their enemies’] swords and [some of whom] died from famines or diseases.
14 so daß auch vom Überrest der Juden, die gekommen sind, sich im Lande Ägypten aufzuhalten, niemand übrigbleiben noch entrinnen wird, um wieder ins Land Juda zurückzukehren, wie sie sich vorgenommen haben, sich wieder dort anzusiedeln; sie werden nicht zurückkehren, außer etlichen Flüchtlingen!
You people who did not die in Judah fled here to Egypt, hoping that [some day] you would return to Judah. But very few [HYP] of you will survive and escape. You are longing/wanting to remain alive and return to Judah, but only a very few of you will escape and be able to do that.’”
15 Da antworteten dem Jeremia alle Männer, welche wußten, daß ihre Frauen fremden Göttern räucherten, und alle Frauen, die dastanden, eine große Gemeinde, auch alles Volk, das im Lande Ägypten, in Patros wohnte:
Then a large group of the people who had started to live in northern Egypt and southern Egypt, including all the men who knew that their wives had been burning incense to other gods, and all the women who were standing there, said this to me:
16 «Auf das Wort, das du im Namen des HERRN zu uns geredet hast, wollen wir gar nicht hören;
“You are saying that [MTY] Yahweh gave messages to you, but we will not pay any attention to your messages!
17 sondern wir wollen alles das tun, was wir gelobt haben: Wir wollen der Himmelskönigin räuchern und ihr Trankopfer ausgießen, wie wir, unsre Väter, unsre Könige und unsre Fürsten in den Städten Judas und auf den Gassen Jerusalems getan haben; damals hatten wir genug zu essen, und es ging uns wohl, und wir erlebten kein Unglück!
We will certainly do everything that we said that we would do. We will burn incense to [worship our goddess Astarte, ] the Queen of Heaven, and we will pour out offerings [of wine] to her, just like we and our ancestors and our kings and [their] officials have [always] done in the streets of Jerusalem and in the [other] towns in Judah. At that time, we had plenty of food, and we were prosperous and we did not have any troubles.
18 Sobald wir aber aufhörten, der Himmelskönigin zu räuchern und Trankopfer auszugießen, hat es uns überall gefehlt, und wir wurden durch Krieg und Hungersnot aufgerieben.
But ever since we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and giving her offerings [of wine], we have had many troubles, and [some of our people] have been killed by [our enemies’] swords and [some have died] from hunger.”
19 Und wenn wir der Himmelskönigin räuchern und Trankopfer ausgießen, tun wir das etwa ohne den Willen unsrer Männer, daß wir ihr Kuchen backen, um sie abzubilden, und ihr Trankopfer spenden?»
And [the women said], “[Furthermore], we burned incense and poured out [wine] offerings to the Queen of Heaven, and we also made small cakes that resembled her idol, to offer to her. But our husbands certainly knew about [and approved of] [RHQ] what we were doing!”
20 Da sprach Jeremia zum ganzen Volk, zu den Männern und Frauen, die ihm also geantwortet hatten, er sprach:
Then I said to all the men and women who had answered me,
21 Hat etwa der HERR nicht an das Räuchern gedacht, das ihr, eure Väter, eure Könige und eure Fürsten samt dem Volk des Landes in den Städten Judas und auf den Gassen Jerusalems getrieben habt? Er hat daran gedacht, und es ist ihm in den Sinn gekommen!
“Do not think [RHQ] that Yahweh did not know that you and your ancestors and your kings and their officials and all the other people in Judah were burning incense to [worship/honor] idols in the streets of Jerusalem and in the [other] towns in Judah!
22 Und der HERR konnte nicht länger vergeben, angesichts der Schlechtigkeit eurer Handlungen, angesichts der Greuel, die ihr verübtet; darum ist euer Land zur Wüste und zum Entsetzen und zum Fluch geworden, unbewohnt, wie es heute der Fall ist,
It was because Yahweh could no longer endure/tolerate your wicked actions and the detestable things that you were doing that he caused your land to be [a place whose name people say when they] curse someone, a land that is ruined and which has no one living in it. And your land is still like that.
23 weil ihr geräuchert und wider den HERRN gesündigt und der Stimme des HERRN nicht gehorcht habt und nicht in seinem Gesetz, in seinen Ordnungen und in seinen Zeugnissen gewandelt seid; darum ist euch dieses Unglück begegnet, wie es heute der Fall ist!
It is because you burned incense to [worship/honor] idols and committed [other] sins against Yahweh that you experienced [all] those disasters. It is because you have not obeyed him or his laws and decrees and commandments.”
24 Weiter sprach Jeremia zu allem Volk, auch zu allen Frauen: Höret das Wort des HERRN, ihr Juden alle, die ihr im Lande Ägypten seid!
[Then] I said to all of them, including the women, “All you [people of] Judah who are [here] in Egypt, listen to this message from Yahweh.
25 So spricht der HERR der Heerscharen, der Gott Israels: Ihr und eure Frauen habt mit eurem eigenen Munde gesagt und mit euren eigenen Händen erfüllt, was ihr sagtet: «Wir wollen unsre Gelübde halten, die wir der Himmelskönigin gelobt haben, wir wollen ihr räuchern und Trankopfer ausgießen!» Haltet eure Gelübde nur aufrecht und vollbringet sie!
This is what the Commander of the armies of angels, the God whom [we] Israelis [worship], says [to you Israeli men]: ‘You and your wives have said that you would continue to do what you promised, to burn incense and pour out wine to the [goddess whom you call] the Queen of Heaven. [And you have proved by your actions that you intend to continue to do that]. So go ahead and continue doing what you have promised to do [for her].’
26 Darum hört das Wort des HERRN, ihr Juden alle, die ihr im Lande Ägypten wohnt: Seht, ich habe bei meinem großen Namen geschworen, spricht der HERR, daß mein Name nimmermehr durch den Mund irgend eines Juden in ganz Ägyptenland genannt werden soll, so daß einer spräche: So wahr Gott, der HERR, lebt!
But now, all you people from Judah who are [now] living [here] in Egypt, listen to this message from Yahweh. He says, ‘I have solemnly declared, using my great name, that [soon] none of [you] people from Judah who are here in Egypt will ever again use my name. [There will be none of you who, when you solemnly promise to do something, ] will ever again say, “[I will do it as surely] as Yahweh lives.”
27 Siehe, ich will über ihnen wachen zum Unglück und nicht zum Besten, daß alle Juden im Lande Ägypten durch Schwert und Hunger aufgerieben werden, bis sie gänzlich vertilgt sind.
Because I will be watching over you, not to cause good things to happen to you but to cause things to happen that will harm you. [Almost] everyone [HYP] from Judah who is [now here] in Egypt will experience being [killed by their enemies’] swords, or dying from famine.
28 Es werden zwar einige wenige Leute, die dem Schwerte entrinnen, aus dem Lande Ägypten ins Land Juda zurückkehren; aber der ganze Überrest der Juden, die ins Land Ägypten gekommen sind, um sich daselbst aufzuhalten, sollen erfahren, wessen Wort besteht, das meinige oder das ihrige!
[Only a very] few [of you] will not die, and will return to Judah. [When that happens], all those who came to Egypt will find out whose words (were true/were fulfilled), theirs or mine.’
29 Und das soll für euch das Zeichen sein, spricht der HERR, daß ich euch an diesem Ort heimsuchen werde, und daran könnt ihr merken, daß meine Drohung sich an euch erfüllen wird:
And Yahweh [also] says, ‘I will do something that will prove to you that everything that I have said will happen, and that I will punish you [here] in this place.
30 So spricht der HERR, siehe, ich will den Pharao Hophra, den König von Ägypten, in die Hand seiner Feinde und derer, die seinem Leben nachstellen, fallen lassen, gleichwie ich Zedekia, den König von Juda, in die Hand des babylonischen Königs Nebukadnezar gegeben habe, der sein Feind war und ihm nach dem Leben trachtete.
I will cause Hophra, the king of Egypt, to be captured by his enemies who want to kill him, just like I caused King Zedekiah of Judah to be captured by [the soldiers of] King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon.’” [And that is what happened several years later].
