Jakobus 1
1 Jakobus, Knecht Gottes und des Herrn Jesus Christus, grüßt die zwölf Stämme, die in der Zerstreuung sind!
James, servant of God and of our Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes of the dispersion, greetings.
2 Meine Brüder, achtet es für lauter Freude, wenn ihr in mancherlei Anfechtungen geratet,
My brothers, when you have fallen into various trials, consider everything a joy,
3 da ihr ja wisset, daß die Bewährung eures Glaubens Geduld wirkt.
knowing that the proving of your faith exercises patience,
4 Die Geduld aber soll ein vollkommenes Werk haben, damit ihr vollkommen und ganz seiet und es euch an nichts mangle.
and patience brings a work to perfection, so that you may be perfect and whole, deficient in nothing.
5 Wenn aber jemandem unter euch Weisheit mangelt, so erbitte er sie von Gott, der allen gern und ohne Vorwurf gibt, so wird sie ihm gegeben werden.
But if anyone among you is in need of wisdom, let him petition God, who gives abundantly to all without reproach, and it shall be given to him.
6 Er bitte aber im Glauben und zweifle nicht; denn wer zweifelt, gleicht der Meereswoge, die vom Winde hin und her getrieben wird.
But he should ask with faith, doubting nothing. For he who doubts is like a wave on the ocean, which is moved about by the wind and carried away;
7 Ein solcher Mensch denke nicht, daß er etwas von dem Herrn empfangen werde.
then a man should not consider that he would receive anything from the Lord.
8 Ein Mann mit geteiltem Herzen ist unbeständig in allen seinen Wegen.
For a man who is of two minds is inconstant in all his ways.
9 Der Bruder aber, welcher niedrig gestellt ist, soll sich seiner Hoheit rühmen,
Now a humble brother should glory in his exaltation,
10 der Reiche dagegen seiner Niedrigkeit; denn wie eine Blume des Grases wird er vergehen.
and a rich one, in his humiliation, for he will pass away like the flower of the grass.
11 Denn kaum ist die Sonne mit ihrer Hitze aufgegangen, so verdorrt das Gras, und seine Blume fällt ab, und seine schöne Gestalt vergeht; so wird auch der Reiche in seinen Wegen verwelken.
For the sun has risen with a scorching heat, and has dried the grass, and its flower has fallen off, and the appearance of its beauty has perished. So also will the rich one wither away, according to his paths.
12 Selig ist der Mann, der die Anfechtung erduldet; denn nachdem er sich bewährt hat, wird er die Krone des Lebens empfangen, welche Gott denen verheißen hat, die ihn lieben!
Blessed is the man who suffers temptation. For when he has been proven, he shall receive the crown of life which God has promised to those who love him.
13 Niemand sage, wenn er versucht wird: Ich werde von Gott versucht. Denn Gott ist unangefochten vom Bösen; er selbst versucht aber auch niemand.
No one should say, when he is tempted, that he was tempted by God. For God does not entice toward evils, and he himself tempts no one.
14 Sondern ein jeder wird versucht, wenn er von seiner eigenen Lust gereizt und gelockt wird.
Yet truly, each one is tempted by his own desires, having been enticed and drawn away.
15 Darnach, wenn die Lust empfangen hat, gebiert sie die Sünde; die Sünde aber, wenn sie vollendet ist, gebiert den Tod.
Thereafter, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin. Yet truly sin, when it has been consummated, produces death.
16 Irret euch nicht, meine lieben Brüder:
And so, do not choose to go astray, my most beloved brothers.
17 Jede gute Gabe und jedes vollkommene Geschenk kommt von oben herab, von dem Vater der Lichter, bei welchem keine Veränderung ist, noch ein Schatten infolge von Wechsel.
Every excellent gift and every perfect gift is from above, descending from the Father of lights, with whom there is no change, nor any shadow of alteration.
18 Nach seinem Willen hat er uns erzeugt durch das Wort der Wahrheit, damit wir gleichsam Erstlinge seiner Geschöpfe seien.
For by his own will he produced us through the Word of truth, so that we might be a kind of beginning among his creatures.
19 Darum, meine geliebten Brüder, sei jeder Mensch schnell zum Hören, langsam aber zum Reden, langsam zum Zorn;
You know this, my most beloved brothers. So let every man be quick to listen, but slow to speak and slow to anger.
20 denn des Menschen Zorn wirkt nicht Gottes Gerechtigkeit!
For the anger of man does not accomplish the justice of God.
21 Darum leget allen Schmutz und Vorrat von Bosheit ab und nehmet mit Sanftmut das [euch] eingepflanzte Wort auf, welches eure Seelen retten kann!
Because of this, having cast away all uncleanness and an abundance of malice, receive with meekness the newly-grafted Word, which is able to save your souls.
22 Seid aber Täter des Wortes und nicht Hörer allein, womit ihr euch selbst betrügen würdet.
So be doers of the Word, and not listeners only, deceiving yourselves.
23 Denn wer [nur] Hörer des Wortes ist und nicht Täter, der gleicht einem Manne, der sein natürliches Angesicht im Spiegel beschaut;
For if anyone is a listener of the Word, but not also a doer, he is comparable to a man gazing into a mirror upon the face that he was born with;
24 er betrachtet sich und läuft davon und hat bald vergessen, wie er gestaltet war.
and after considering himself, he went away and promptly forgot what he had seen.
25 Wer aber hineinschaut in das vollkommene Gesetz der Freiheit und dabei bleibt, nicht als vergeßlicher Hörer, sondern als wirklicher Täter, der wird selig sein in seinem Tun.
But he who gazes upon the perfect law of liberty, and who remains in it, is not a forgetful hearer, but instead a doer of the work. He shall be blessed in what he does.
26 Wenn jemand fromm zu sein meint, seine Zunge aber nicht im Zaum hält, sondern sein Herz betrügt, dessen Frömmigkeit ist wertlos.
But if anyone considers himself to be religious, but he does not restrain his tongue, but instead seduces his own heart: such a one’s religion is vanity.
27 Reine und makellose Frömmigkeit vor Gott dem Vater ist es, Waisen und Witwen in ihrer Trübsal zu besuchen und sich von der Welt unbefleckt zu erhalten.
This is religion, clean and undefiled before God the Father: to visit orphans and widows in their tribulations, and to keep yourself immaculate, apart from this age.
