Jesaja 36

1 Im vierzehnten Jahre des Königs Hiskia zog Sanherib, der König von Assyrien, wider alle festen Städte Judas herauf und nahm sie ein.

Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up, against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.

2 Da sandte der assyrische König den Rabschake von Lachis gen Jerusalem wider den König Hiskia mit großer Heeresmacht; der stellte sich bei der Wasserleitung des obern Teiches an der Straße des Walkerfeldes auf.

Then did the king of Assyria send Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem unto King Hezekiah with a heavy force, —and he took his stand by the upper channel of the pool, in the highway of the fuller’s field.

3 Da gingen zu ihm hinaus Eljakim, der Sohn Hilkias, der über den Palast gesetzt war, und Sebna, der Schreiber, und Joah, der Sohn Asaphs, der Kanzler.

And there went out to him—Eliakim son of Hilkiah who was over the household, —and Shebna, the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph the recorder.

4 Und Rabschake sprach zu ihnen: Saget doch dem Hiskia: So spricht der große König, der König von Assur: Was ist das für eine Stütze, darauf du dich verlässest?

And Rabshakeh said unto them, Pray you say unto Hezekiah, —Thus, saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What is this trust, wherewith thou dost trust?

5 Ich erkläre es für leeres Geschwätz, wenn du sagst, du habest Rat und Macht zum Kriege! Auf wen verlässest du dich nun, daß du von mir abtrünnig geworden bist?

I have said [sayest thou] —they are only words of the lips—Counsel and might have I for the war, —Now, upon whom dost thou trust, that thou hast rebelled against me?

6 Siehe, du verlässest dich auf jenen zerbrochenen Rohrstab, auf Ägypten, der einem jeden, der sich darauf lehnt, in die Hand fährt und sie durchbohrt! So ist der Pharao, der König von Ägypten, allen denen, die sich auf ihn verlassen.

Lo! thou dost trust on the support of this bruised cane, on Egypt, whereon if a man lean it will enter his hand and lay it open, —So, is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust upon him.

7 Wenn du aber zu mir sagen wolltest: «Wir verlassen uns auf den HERRN, unsern Gott» ist das nicht der, dessen Höhen und Altäre Hiskia abgetan und der zu Juda und Jerusalem gesagt hat: Vor diesem Altar sollt ihr anbeten?

But, if thou shouldst say unto me, In Yahweh our God, do we trust, Then is that not he whose high places and whose altars, Hezekiah hath removed, and said unto Judah and unto Jerusalem, Before this altar, shall ye bow yourselves down?

8 Nun wohlan, wette einmal mit meinem Herrn, dem assyrischen König: ich will dir zweitausend Pferde geben; laß sehen, ob du Reiter dazu stellen kannst.

Now, therefore, pledge thyself I pray thee with my lord, the king of Assyria, —That I supply thee with two thousand horses, If thou on thy part be able to set riders upon them;

9 Wie wolltest du denn einem der geringsten Fürsten von meines Herrn Knechten widerstehen? Und du verlässest dich auf Ägypten um der Wagen und Reiter willen!

How then wilt thou turn away the face of one pasha of the least of my lord’s servants? Or hast thou on thy part trusted upon Egypt, for chariots and for horsemen?

10 Zudem, meinst du, daß ich ohne Befehl des HERRN heraufgezogen bin, um dieses Land zu verderben? Der HERR selbst hat zu mir gesprochen: Ziehe hinauf in dieses Land, daß du es verderbest!

But, now, is it, without Yahweh, that I have come up against this land to destroy it? Yahweh himself, said unto me, Go thou up against this land and destroy it!

11 Da sprachen Eljakim, Sebna und Joah zu Rabschake: Rede doch mit deinen Knechten in aramäischer Sprache; denn wir verstehen sie wohl, und rede nicht judäisch mit uns vor den Ohren des Volks, das auf der Mauer liegt.

Then said Eliakim, and Shebna, and Joah, unto Rabshakeh—Speak we pray thee unto thy servants in the Syrian language, for we, can, understand, it, —and do not speak unto us in the Jews’ language, in the ears of the people who are upon the wall.

12 Da antwortete Rabschake: Hat mich denn mein HERR zu deinem Herrn oder zu dir gesandt, daß ich solche Worte rede? Hat er mich nicht zu den Männern gesandt, die auf der Mauer liegen und mit euch ihren Kot essen und ihren Harn trinken?

But Rabshakeh said—Is it unto thy lord and unto thee, that my lord hath sent me, to speak these things? Is it not concerning the men who are tarrying upon the wall, that they may eat and drink what cometh from them, with you?

13 Also trat Rabschake hervor und schrie mit lauter Stimme auf judäisch und sprach: Höret die Worte des großen Königs, des Königs von Assyrien!

So then Rabshakeh took his stand, and cried out with a loud voice, in the Jews’ language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria:

14 So spricht der König: Lasset euch von Hiskia nicht verführen; denn er wird euch nicht erretten können.

Thus, saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you, —for he shall not be able to deliver you.

15 Lasset euch von Hiskia auch nicht auf den HERRN vertrösten, indem er spricht: Der HERR wird uns gewiß erretten, und diese Stadt wird nicht in die Hand des Königs von Assyrien gegeben werden.

Neither let Hezekiah cause you to trust in Yahweh saying, Yahweh, will certainly deliver, us, —this city shall not be given over, into the hand of the king of Assyria.

16 Folget dem Hiskia nicht! Denn also spricht der König von Assyrien: Machet Frieden mit mir und kommt zu mir heraus, so soll jedermann von seinem Weinstock und von seinem Feigenbaum essen und das Wasser seines Brunnens trinken,

Do not hearken unto Hezekiah, —for, thus, saith the king of Assyria, Deal with me thankfully, and come out unto me, Then shall ye eat, Every one of his own vine and Every one of his own fig-tree, And drink every one the Waters of his own cistern:

17 bis ich komme und euch in ein Land führe, das eurem Lande gleich ist, ein Land, darin Korn und Most ist, ein Land, darin Brot und Weinberge sind.

Until I come and take you, into A land like your own land, —A land of corn and new wine, A land of bread and vineyards: —

18 Lasset euch von Hiskia nicht verführen, wenn er spricht: Der HERR wird uns erretten! Haben etwa die Götter der Heiden ein jeder sein Land aus der Hand des assyrischen Königs erretten können?

Lest Hezekiah, persuade you, saying, Yahweh will deliver us! Have the gods of the nations, delivered, —any one of them—his country, out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

19 Wo sind die Götter zu Chamat und Arpad? Wo sind die Götter zu Sepharvaim? Haben sie auch Samaria von meiner Hand errettet?

Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? If indeed they had only delivered Samaria, out of my hand!

20 Wer ist unter allen Göttern dieser Länder, der sein Land von meiner Hand errettet habe, daß der HERR Jerusalem von meiner Hand erretten sollte?

Who are they, among all the gods of these countries that have delivered their country out of my hand? That, Yahweh, should deliver, Jerusalem, out of my hand!

21 Sie schwiegen aber still und antworteten ihm nicht ein Wort; denn der König hatte geboten und gesagt: Antwortet ihm nichts!

But they held their peace, and answered him not a word, —for the command of the king, it was, saying, —Ye must not answer him.

22 Also kamen Eljakim, der Sohn Hilkias, der über den Palast gesetzt war, und Sebna, der Schreiber, und Joah, der Sohn Asaphs, der Kanzler, zu Hiskia mit zerrissenen Kleidern und berichteten ihm die Worte Rabschakes.

Then came in—Eliakim son of Hilkiah who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah son of Asaph, the recorder, unto Hezekiah, with rent clothes, —and they told him the words of Rabshakeh.
