Jesaja 34
1 Kommt herzu, ihr Heiden, um zu hören, und ihr Völker, merket auf! Es höre die Erde und was sie erfüllt, der Weltkreis und alles, was ihm entsproßt.
You people of all nations, come near and listen and pay careful attention. I want the world and everything that is in it to hear what I say.
2 Denn der HERR ist zornig über alle Völker und ergrimmt über ihr ganzes Heer. Er hat sie mit dem Bann belegt und zur Schlachtung überliefert.
Yahweh is angry with [the people of] all nations; he is (furious/very angry) with all their armies. He has decided that they must be destroyed, and he will slaughter them.
3 Ihre Erschlagenen sollen hingeworfen werden und der Gestank ihrer Leichname aufsteigen, und die Berge werden von ihrem Blute zerfließen.
Their corpses will not be buried, and [as a result] their corpses will stink, and their blood will [fill the streams that] flow down the mountains.
4 Das gesamte Heer des Himmels wird vergehen, und die Himmel werden zusammengewickelt wie ein Buch, und all ihr Heer wird verwelken, wie das Laub am Weinstock verwelkt und wie die Blätter am Feigenbaum verdorren.
The sky will disappear like [SIM] a scroll that is rolled up [and thrown away]. Stars will fall [from the sky] like [SIM] [withered] leaves fall from grapevines, [or] like [SIM] shriveled figs fall from fig trees.
5 Denn mein Schwert ist trunken geworden im Himmel; siehe, es wird herabfahren auf Edom, über das von mir zum Gericht verdammte Volk.
When Yahweh has finished his work of destroying objects in the sky, he will punish [the people of] Edom, that people-group that he has said must be destroyed/exterminated.
6 Das Schwert des HERRN ist voll Blut; es ist geölt mit dem Fett, mit dem Blut der Lämmer und Böcke, mit dem Nierenfett der Widder; denn der HERR hält ein Opfern zu Bozra und ein großes Schlachten im Lande Edom.
[It is as though] Yahweh has a sword that is covered with blood and fat— the blood of lambs and goats and the fat of the kidneys of rams to be sacrificed. [It is as though] Yahweh will offer a sacrifice in [the city of] Bozrah [and kill many people] in other cities in Edom.
7 Da werden die Büffel mit ihnen fallen und die Farren mit den starken Ochsen; ihr Land wird mit Blut getränkt und ihr Boden mit Fett gedüngt.
[Even] wild oxen will be killed, as well as young calves and big bulls. The ground will be soaked with blood, and the dirt will be covered with the fat of those animals.
8 Denn das ist der Tag der Rache des HERRN, das Jahr der Vergeltung, zur Rache für Zion.
That will be the time when Yahweh gets revenge for what those people did to the people of Judah.
9 Da sollen ihre Bäche in Pech verwandelt werden und ihr Staub in Schwefel; ja, ihr Land wird zu brennendem Pech.
The streams in Edom will be full of burning pitch/tar, and the ground will be covered with burning sulfur.
10 Tag und Nacht wird es brennen, ewig wird sein Rauch aufsteigen; es wird wüste liegen von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht, und niemand wird mehr hindurch wandeln ewiglich;
Yahweh will never finish punishing Edom with fire; the smoke will rise forever. No one will ever live in that land, and no one will [even] travel through it.
11 sondern der Pelikan und der Igel werden es einnehmen, und die Eule und der Rabe werden darin wohnen; die Meßschnur der Verödung wird Er darüber spannen und das Richtblei der Verwüstung.
Ravens and various kinds of owls and small animals will live there. Yahweh will measure that land carefully: He will measure it to [to decide where] to cause chaos and destruction.
12 Von ihrem alten Adel wird keiner mehr da sein, den man zum Königtum berufen könnte; und alle ihre Fürsten sind dahin.
There will be no princes; the people who have authority will have no kingdom to rule.
13 In ihren Palästen werden Dornen wachsen, Nesseln und Disteln in ihren Burgen; sie werden den Schakalen zur Wohnung dienen, zum Gehege den jungen Straußen.
The deserted palaces and fortified buildings will be full of thorns and thistles. The ruins will be a place for jackals/wolves and owls to live.
14 Wölfe und Marder werden einander begegnen und ein Dämon dem andern rufen; ja, dort wird das Nachtgespenst sich niederlassen und eine Ruhestätte für sich finden.
Animals that live in the desert and hyenas/wolves will be there, and wild goats will bleat/call to each other. There will also be creatures/animals that [roam around] at night.
15 Daselbst wird die Pfeilschlange nisten und Eier legen, sie ausbrüten und ihre Jungen sammeln unter ihrem Schatten, daselbst werden auch die Geier zusammenkommen, ein jeder zu seinem Gesellen.
Owls will make their nests there and lay their eggs in the nests; and when the eggs hatch, the mother birds will cover them [with their wings]. There will also be falcons/hawks there, each with its mate.
16 Erforschet das Buch des HERRN und leset! Nicht eines von alledem wird fehlen; zu keinem Wort wird man die Erfüllung vermissen; denn sein Mund ist's, der es verheißen, und sein Geist ist's, der sie gesammelt hat.
If you read what is written in the book that contains messages from Yahweh, you will find out what he will do [in Edom]. All of those animals and birds will be there, and each one will have a mate, because that is what Yahweh has promised, and his Spirit will cause them [all] to gather [there].
17 Und er selbst hat ihnen das Los geworfen, und seine Hand hat es ihnen mit der Meßschnur zugeteilt. Sie werden das Erbe ewig besitzen und darin wohnen für und für.
He has decided what parts of the land [of Edom] each will live in, and those are the places where each bird or animal will live. Their descendants will possess those areas forever, throughout all generations.
