Hosea 4
1 Hört des HERRN Wort, ihr Kinder Israel! Denn der HERR hat zu rechten mit den Bewohnern des Landes, weil keine Treue, kein Erbarmen und keine Gotteserkenntnis im Lande ist.
Hear the word of Yahweh, ye sons of Israel, —that, a controversy, hath Yahweh with the inhabitants of the land, because there is no faithfulness, nor lovingkindness, nor knowledge of God, in the land:
2 Fluchen und Lügen, Morden, Stehlen und Ehebrechen hat überhand genommen, und Blutschuld reiht sich an Blutschuld.
Cursing and lying, and killing and stealing, and committing adultery, have broken forth, and, blood-shedding, unto blood-shedding, doth extend.
3 Darob trauert das Land und müssen verschmachten alle, die darin wohnen; die Tiere des Feldes, die Vögel des Himmels und auch die Fische im Meer werden dahingerafft.
For this cause, shall the land mourn, and everyone who dwelleth therein shall languish, with the wild beast of the field and with the bird of the heavens, —moreover also, the fishes of the sea, shall be withdrawn.
4 Nur hadere niemand und strafe keiner! Aber mit dir, du Priester, will ich hadern!
Howbeit let, no man, contend, nor let him rebuke another, —since, thy people, are as they who contend against a priest:
5 Du sollst bei Tage straucheln, und auch der Prophet wird mit dir straucheln des Nachts, und ich will deine Mutter vertilgen.
So shouldst thou stumble in the daytime, and even the prophet stumble with thee, in the night, —and I should destroy thine own mother.
6 Mein Volk geht aus Mangel an Erkenntnis zugrunde; denn du hast die Erkenntnis verworfen, darum will ich auch dich verwerfen, daß du nicht mehr mein Priester seiest; und weil du das Gesetz deines Gottes vergessen hast, will auch ich deiner Kinder vergessen!
My people, are destroyed, for lack of knowledge, —Because, thou, hast rejected knowledge, therefore will I reject thee from ministering as priest unto me, and, because thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I also, will forget thy children.
7 Je mehr ihrer wurden, desto mehr sündigten sie wider mich; darum will ich ihre Ehre in Schande verwandeln.
As they were magnified, so, they sinned against me, —My glory—for what was contemptible, did they exchange.
8 Von der Sünde meines Volkes nähren sie sich und sind gierig nach ihren Missetaten.
The sin of my people, they do eat, —and. unto their iniquity, lift they up every man his desire.
9 Aber es soll dem Priester ergehen wie dem Volk, ich werde an ihm heimsuchen seinen Wandel und ihm seine Taten vergelten.
So doth it come to be—like people, like priest, —therefore will I visit upon him his ways, and, his doings, will I bring back to him;
10 Sie werden essen und nicht satt werden, Unzucht treiben und sich doch nicht vermehren; denn sie haben davon abgelassen, auf den HERRN zu achten.
And they shall eat, and not be satisfied, they have encouraged unchastity, yet have not been making increase, —for unto, Yahweh, have they left off giving heed: —
11 Unzucht, Wein und Most rauben den Verstand.
Unchastity, and wine, and new wine, take away the heart.
12 Mein Volk befragt sein Holz, und sein Stab soll ihm wahrsagen; denn der Geist der Unzucht hat sie verführt, daß sie ihrem Gott untreu geworden sind.
My people, of their Wood, do ask, —Let, their Staff, then tell them, —for, the spirit of unchastity, hath led them astray, and they have unchastely departed from under their God.
13 Sie opfern auf den Bergeshöhen und räuchern auf den Hügeln, unter Eichen, Pappeln und Terebinthen; denn ihr Schatten ist angenehm. Darum treiben eure Töchter Unzucht und brechen eure Bräute die Ehe.
On the headlands of the mountains, they sacrifice, and, on the hills, burn they incense, under oak and poplar and terebinth, because, pleasant, is the shade thereof: For this cause, do your daughters, become unchaste, and, your brides, commit adultery.
14 Ich kann es an euren Töchtern nicht strafen, daß sie Unzucht treiben, noch an euren Bräuten, daß sie die Ehe brechen; denn sie selbst gehen mit Huren abseits und opfern mit den Tempeldirnen, und das unverständige Volk stürzt sich selbst ins Verderben.
I do not bring punishment upon your daughters when they become unchaste, nor upon your brides, when they commit adultery, for, the men themselves, with unchaste women, do seclude themselves, and, with the common women of the shrine, do offer sacrifice, —and, a people who will not discern, must be ruined.
15 Wenn du, Israel, Unzucht treibst, so soll sich doch Juda nicht versündigen! Geht doch nicht nach Gilgal, zieht nicht nach Beth-Aven hinauf und schwört nicht: «So wahr der HERR lebt!»
Though unchaste art thou, O Israel, let not Judah, become guilty, neither let them enter Gilgal, nor go up to Beth-aven, and [then] swear, By the life of Yahweh!
16 Denn Israel ist wie eine störrische Kuh; sollte sie der HERR weiden können wie ein Lamm auf weiter Trift?
For, as a heifer that is stubborn, hath Israel, been stubborn, —Now, can Yahweh, turn them out to pasture, like a young ram in a wide place?
17 Ephraim ist an die Götzen gebunden; laß ihn in Ruh!
Mated with idols, is Ephraim, let him alone.
18 Ihr Wein geht zur Neige, sie haben ausgehurt; ihre Beschützer haben die Schande geliebt.
Their drinking-bout, having passed, —they became, unchaste, they loved wildly, a contempt, became her great men.
19 Der Wind hat sie mit seinen Flügeln erfaßt, daß sie mit ihren Opfern zuschanden werden.
The wind hath bound her up in its wings, —that they may be ashamed, because of their sacrifices.
