1 Mose 4
1 Und Adam erkannte sein Weib Eva; sie aber empfing und gebar den Kain. Und sie sprach: Ich habe einen Mann bekommen mit der Hilfe des HERRN!
Now, the man, having come to know Eve his wife, —she conceived and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a Man, even Yahweh!
2 Und weiter gebar sie seinen Bruder Abel. Und Abel ward ein Schäfer, Kain aber ein Ackersmann.
And she went on to bear his brother, Abel, —and Abel became a feeder of sheep, whereas Cain, was a tiller of the round.
3 Es begab sich aber nach Verfluß von Jahren, daß Kain dem HERRN ein Opfer brachte von den Früchten der Erde.
So it came to pass, after certain days, that Cain brought in of the fruit of the ground, a present to Yahweh:
4 Und Abel, auch er brachte [dar] von den Erstgebornen seiner Schafe und von ihren Fettesten.
Abel, also, even, he, brought in of the firstlings of his sheep, and of their fat, and Yahweh approved of Abel and of his present;
5 Und der HERR sah an Abel und sein Opfer; aber Kain und sein Opfer sah er gar nicht an. Da ergrimmte Kain sehr und ließ den Kopf hängen.
but of Cain and his present, he approved not, —and it angered Cain greatly, and his countenance fell.
6 Da sprach der HERR zu Kain: Warum bist du so zornig und lässest den Kopf hängen? Ist's nicht also: Wenn du gut bist, so darfst du dein Haupt erheben?
So then Yahweh said unto Cain, —Wherefore hath it angered thee, and wherefore hath thy countenance fallen?
7 Bist du aber nicht gut, so lauert die Sünde vor der Tür, und ihre Begierde ist auf dich gerichtet; du aber herrsche über sie!
Shall it not, if thou do right, be lifted up? But if thou do not right, at the entrance a sin-bearer is lying, —Unto thee, moreover, shall be his longing, though, thou, rule over him.
8 Da redete Kain mit seinem Bruder Abel. Es begab sich aber, als sie auf dem Felde waren, da erhob sich Kain wider seinen Bruder Abel und schlug ihn tot.
And Cain said unto Abel his brother Let us go into the field And it came to pass when they were in the field that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.
9 Da sprach der HERR zu Kain: Wo ist dein Bruder Abel? Er sprach: Ich weiß es nicht! Soll ich meines Bruders Hüter sein?
Then said Yahweh unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said I know not, the keeper of my brother, am, I?
10 Er aber sprach: Was hast du getan? Die Stimme des Blutes deines Bruders schreit zu mir von der Erde!
And he said, What hast thou done? With a voice, the shed-blood of thy brother is crying out to me from the ground,
11 Und nun sollst du verbannt sein aus dem Land, das seinen Mund aufgetan hat, das Blut deines Bruders zu empfangen von deiner Hand!
Now therefore, accursed, art thou, —from the ground which hath opened her mouth, to receive the shed-blood of thy brother at thy hand.
12 Wenn du das Land bebaust, soll es dir fortan sein Vermögen nicht mehr geben; unstät und flüchtig sollst du sein auf Erden!
Though thou till the ground, it shall not go on to give its vigour to thee. A wanderer and a fugitive, shalt thou be in the earth.
13 Kain sprach zum HERRN: Meine Schuld ist zu groß zum Tragen!
And Cain said unto Yahweh—Greater is my punishment than I can bear.
14 Siehe, du treibst mich heute aus dem Lande, und ich muß mich vor deinem Angesicht verbergen und unstät und flüchtig sein auf Erden. Und es wird geschehen, daß mich totschlägt, wer mich findet.
Lo! thou has driven me out, this day, from off the face of the ground And from thy face, shall I be hid, So shall I become a wanderer and a fugitive in the earth. And it shall come to pass, whosoever findeth me, will slay me.
15 Da sprach der HERR: Fürwahr, wer Kain totschlägt, zieht sich siebenfache Rache zu! Und der Herr gab dem Kain ein Zeichen, daß ihn niemand erschlüge, der ihn fände.
And Yahweh said to him—Not so, whosoever slayeth Cain seven—fold, shall it be avenged. So Yahweh set, for Cain, a sign, that none finding him should smite him.
16 Und Kain ging aus von dem Angesicht des HERRN und wohnte im Lande Nod, östlich von Eden.
So Cain went forth from the presence of Yahweh, —and dwelt in the land of Nod, eastward of Eden.
17 Und Kain erkannte sein Weib; die empfing und gebar den Hanoch. Und da er eben eine Stadt baute, so nannte er sie nach seines Sohnes Namen Hanoch.
And Cain knew his wife, and she conceived, and bare Enoch, —Now it happened that he was building a city, so he called the name of the city, after the name of his son, Enoch.
18 Dem Hanoch aber ward Irad geboren, und Irad zeugte Mehujael; Mehujael zeugte Metusael, Metusael zeugte Lamech.
And there was born to Enoch Irad, and, Irad, begat Mehujael, —and Mehujael, begat Methusael, —and Methusael, begat Lamech.
19 Lamech aber nahm sich zwei Weiber: die eine hieß Ada, die andere Zilla.
And Lamech took to himself two wives, —the name of the one, was Adah, and, the name of the second Zillah.
20 Und Ada gebar Jabal; derselbe wurde der Vater der Zeltbewohner und Herdenbesitzer.
And Adah bare Jabal, —he, was father of such as dwell in tents, and have cattle;
21 Und sein Bruder hieß Jubal; derselbe wurde der Vater aller Harfen und Flötenspieler.
and, the name of his brother, was Jubal, —he, was father of everyone handling lyre and flute,
22 Und Zilla, auch sie gebar den Tubal-Kain, den Meister in allerlei Erz und Eisenwerk. Und die Schwester Tubal-Kains war Naama.
And, as for Zillah, she also, bare Tubal-Cain, a sharpener of every cutting instrument of bronze and iron, —and, the sister of Tubal-Cain, was Naamah.
23 Und Lamech sprach zu seinen Weibern: «Ada und Zilla, hört meine Stimme, ihr Weiber Lamechs, vernehmt meinen Spruch! Einen Mann erschlug ich, weil er mich verwundet, einen Jüngling, weil er mich geschlagen hat;
Then said Lamech to his wives, Adah and Zillah! hear ye my voice, Ye wives of Lamech! give ear to my tale, For a man, have I slain in dealing my wounds, Yea, a youth, in smiting my blows:
24 denn Kain soll siebenfach gerächt werden, Lamech aber siebenundsiebzigfach!»
If, sevenfold, be, the avenging of Cain, Then, of Lamech, seventy and seven.
25 Und Adam erkannte sein Weib abermal; die gebar einen Sohn und nannte ihn Seth; denn Gott hat mir für Abel einen andern Samen gesetzt, weil Kain ihn umgebracht hat.
And Adam again knew his wife, and she bare a son, and called his name Seth, —For God hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel, because Cain slew him!
26 Und auch dem Seth ward ein Sohn geboren, den hieß er Enosch. Damals fing man an, den Namen des HERRN anzurufen.
And to Seth—to him also, was born a son, and he called his name Enosh, —then, was a beginning made, to call on the name of Yahweh.
