1 Dies ist das Geschlechtsregister der Söhne Noahs: Sem, Ham und Japhet; und nach der Sündflut wurden ihnen Kinder geboren.
(This is/I will now give) a list of the descendants of Noah’s sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. They had many children after the flood.
2 Die Söhne Japhets waren: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Mesech und Tiras.
The sons of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.
3 Die Söhne Gomers aber: Aschkenas, Riphat und Togarma.
The sons of Gomer were Askenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah.
4 Und die Söhne Javans: Elischa, Tarsis, Kittim und Rodanim.
The sons of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.
5 Sie haben sich auf die Inseln der Heiden verteilt, in ihre Länder, ein jedes nach seiner Sprache; in ihre Völkerschaften, ein jedes nach seiner Abstammung.
Those sons and their families who were descended from Javan lived on the islands and on the land close to the [Mediterranean] Sea. Their descendants became tribes, each with its own language and clans and territory.
6 Und dies sind die Söhne Hams: Kusch, Mizraim, Put und Kanaan.
The descendants of Ham were Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan.
7 Und die Söhne Kuschs: Seba, Chavila, Sabta, Raema, Sabteka und Dedan.
The descendants of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The descendants of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.
8 Auch zeugte Kusch den Nimrod; der fing an ein Gewaltiger zu sein auf Erden.
Another one of Cush’s descendants was Nimrod. Nimrod was the first person on earth who became a mighty warrior.
9 Er war ein gewaltiger Jäger vor dem HERRN; daher sagt man: Ein gewaltiger Jäger vor dem HERRN wie Nimrod.
Yahweh saw that he had become (OR, caused him to become) a great hunter. That is why people say to a great hunter, “Yahweh (sees that you are/has caused you to be) a great hunter like Nimrod.”
10 Und der Anfang seines Königreiches war Babel, Erek, Akkad und Kalne im Lande Sinear.
Nimrod became a king who ruled in Babylonia. The first cities over which he ruled were Babel, Erech, Accad, and Calneh.
11 Von diesem Land zog er nach Assur aus und baute Ninive, Rechobot-Ir und Kelach,
From there he went [with others] to Assyria and built the cities of Nineveh, Rehoboth-Ir, Calah,
12 dazu Resen, zwischen Ninive und Kelach; das ist die große Stadt.
and Resen. Resen was a large city between Nineveh and Calah.
13 Mizraim aber zeugte die Luditer, Anamiter, Lehabiter und Naphtuchiter;
Ham’s son, Egypt, became the ancestor of the Lud, Anam, Lehab and Naphtuh,
14 auch die Patrusiter und die Kasluchiter, von welchen die Philister und die Kaphtoriter ausgegangen sind.
Pathrus, Casluh and Caphtor people-groups. The Philistine people were descended from Casluh.
15 Kanaan aber zeugte Zidon, seinen Erstgebornen und Het;
Ham’s youngest son, Canaan, became the father of Sidon, who was his eldest son, and Heth, his younger son.
16 auch die Jebusiter, Amoriter und Girgasiter;
Canaan was also the ancestor of the Jebus, Amor, Girgash,
17 die Heviter, Arkiter und Siniter;
Hiv, Ark, Sin,
18 die Arvaditer, Zemariter und die Chamatiter; und darnach breiteten sich die Geschlechter der Kanaaniter aus.
Arved, Zemar and Hamath people-groups. Later the descendants of Canaan dispersed over a large area.
19 Und der Kanaaniter Gebiet erstreckte sich von Zidon an bis dahin, wo man von Gerar nach Gaza kommt; desgleichen bis dahin, wo man von Sodom und Gomorra, Adama und Zeboim nach Lascha kommt.
Their land extended from Sidon [city] in the north as far south as Gaza [town], and then to the east as far as Gerar [town], and then farther east to Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim [towns], and even as far as Lasha [town].
20 Das sind die Söhne Hams nach ihren Geschlechtern und Sprachen, in ihren Ländern und Völkerschaften.
Those are the descendants of Ham. They became groups that had their own clans, their own languages, and their own land.
21 Auch Sem wurden Kinder geboren, ihm, dem Vater aller Söhne Ebers, Japhets älterem Bruder.
Shem, the older brother of Japheth, became the father of Eber, and the ancestor of all the descendants of Eber.
22 Sems Söhne waren Elam, Assur, Arpakschad, Lud und Aram.
The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.
23 Und Arams Söhne: Uz, Chul, Geter und Masch.
The sons of Aram were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Mash.
24 Arpakschad aber zeugte den Schelach, und Schelach zeugte den Eber.
Arphaxad became the father of Shelah. Shelah became the father of Eber.
25 Und dem Eber wurden zwei Söhne geboren; der eine hieß Peleg, weil in seinen Tagen das Land verteilt ward; sein Bruder aber hieß Joktan.
Eber became the father of two sons. One of them was named Peleg, [which means ‘division’], because during the time he lived, people on [MTY] the earth became divided and scattered everywhere. Peleg’s younger brother was Joktan.
26 Und Joktan zeugte Almodad, Schaleph, Chazarmavet, Jarach,
Joktan became the ancestor of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,
27 Hadoram, Usal, Dikla,
Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,
28 Obal, Abimael, Scheba,
Obal, Abimael, Sheba,
29 Ophir, Chavila und Jobad; diese alle sind Söhne Joktans.
Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab. All those people were descended from Joktan.
30 Und ihre Wohnsitze erstreckten sich von Mesa an, bis man gen Sephar kommt, zum östlichen Gebirge.
The areas in which they lived extended from Mesha westward to Sephar, which is in the (hill country/area that has a lot of hills).
31 Das sind die Söhne Sems nach ihren Geschlechtern und Sprachen, in ihren Ländern und Völkerschaften.
They are descendants of Shem. They became groups that had their own clans, their own languages, and their own land.
32 Das sind die Geschlechter der Söhne Noahs nach ihrer Abstammung in ihren Völkern; und von ihnen haben sich nach der Sündflut die Völker auf der Erde verteilt.
All those groups descended from the sons of Noah. Each group had its own (genealogy/record of people’s ancestors) and each became a separate ethnic group. Those ethnic groups formed after the flood and spread all around the earth.
