Hesekiel 18

1 Und das Wort des HERRN erging an mich also:

The worde of the Lord came vnto me againe, saying,

2 Was braucht ihr da für ein Sprichwort im Lande Israel, welches also lautet: «Wenn die Väter saure Trauben essen, so bekommen die Kinder stumpfe Zähne!»

What meane ye that ye speake this prouerbe, concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers haue eaten sowre grapes, and the childrens teeth are set on edge?

3 So wahr ich lebe, spricht Gott, der HERR, ihr sollt dieses Sprichwort hinfort in Israel nicht mehr brauchen!

As I liue, sayth the Lord God, ye shall vse this prouerbe no more in Israel.

4 Seht, alle Seelen sind mein! Wie die Seele des Vaters mein ist, also ist auch die Seele des Sohnes mein. Die Seele, welche sündigt, soll sterben!

Beholde, all soules are mine, both the soule of the father, and also the soule of the sonne are mine: the soule that sinneth, it shall die.

5 Wenn aber ein Mensch gerecht ist und Recht und Gerechtigkeit übt,

But if a man be iust, and doe that which is lawfull, and right,

6 nicht auf den Bergen [Opferfleisch] ißt, seine Augen nicht zu den Götzen des Hauses Israel erhebt, seines Nächsten Weib nicht schändet und nicht zu seinem Weibe geht während ihrer Unreinigkeit;

And hath not eaten vpon the mountaines, neither hath lift vp his eyes to the idoles of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbours wife, neither hath lyen with a menstruous woman,

7 niemanden bedrückt, seinem Schuldner das Pfand zurückgibt, nichts raubt, sondern dem Hungrigen sein Brot gibt und den Nackten kleidet,

Neither hath oppressed any, but hath restored the pledge to his dettour: he that hath spoyled none by violence, but hath giuen his bread to the hungry, and hath couered the naked with a garment,

8 nicht auf Wucher leiht, und keinen Wucherzins nimmt, seine Hand vom Unrecht fern hält und jedermann zu seinem Recht kommen läßt,

And hath not giuen foorth vpon vsurie, neither hath taken any increase, but hath withdrawen his hand from iniquitie, and hath executed true iudgement betweene man and man,

9 in meinen Satzungen wandelt und meine Rechte bewahrt und sie gewissenhaft befolgt: ein solcher ist gerecht, er soll gewiß leben, spricht Gott, der HERR.

And hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept my iudgements to deale truely, he is iust, he shall surely liue, sayth the Lord God.

10 Wenn nun dieser einen gewalttätigen Sohn zeugt, der Blut vergießt oder irgend etwas von alledem tut,

If he beget a sonne, that is a thiefe, or a sheader of blood, if he do any one of these things,

11 was jener nicht getan, der auf den Bergen ißt, seines Nächsten Weib schwächt,

Though he doe not all these things, but either hath eaten vpon the mountaines, or defiled his neighbours wife,

12 den Armen und Dürftigen bedrückt, das Pfand nicht zurückgibt, seine Augen zu den Götzen erhebt und Greuel verübt;

Or hath oppressed the poore and needy, or hath spoyled by violence, or hath not restored the pledge, or hath lift vp his eyes vnto the idoles, or hath committed abomination,

13 auf Wucher leiht, Wucherzins nimmt: sollte ein solcher leben? Er soll nicht leben; er hat alle diese Greuel getan, darum soll er sicherlich sterben; sein Blut sei auf ihm!

Or hath giuen forth vpon vsurie, or hath taken increase, shall he liue? he shall not liue: seeing he hath done all these abominations, he shall die the death, and his blood shall be vpon him.

14 Und siehe, wenn auch er einen Sohn zeugt, der alle Sünden seines Vaters sieht, die dieser vollbracht hat, ja, wenn er sie sieht, aber solche nicht tut:

But if he beget a sonne, that seeth all his fathers sinnes, which he hath done, and feareth, neither doeth such like,

15 nicht auf den Bergen ißt, seine Augen nicht zu den Götzen des Hauses Israel erhebt, seines Nächsten Weib nicht befleckt,

That hath not eaten vpon the mountaines, neither hath lift vp his eyes to the idols of ye house of Israel, nor hath defiled his neighbours wife,

16 niemanden bedrückt, niemanden pfändet, nicht raubt, sondern dem Hungrigen sein Brot gibt und den Nackten kleidet,

Neither hath oppressed any, nor hath withholden the pledge, neither hath spoyled by violence, but hath giuen his bread to the hungry, and hath couered the naked with a garment,

17 seine Hand nicht an den Armen legt, weder Wucher noch Zins nimmt, meine Rechte beobachtet und in meinen Satzungen wandelt: der soll nicht sterben um der Missetat seines Vaters willen, sondern er soll gewiß leben.

Neither hath withdrawen his hand from the afflicted, nor receiued vsurie nor increase, but hath executed my iudgements, and hath walked in my statutes, he shall not die in the iniquitie of his father, but he shall surely liue.

18 Sein Vater aber, der Gewalt und Unrecht getan, seinen Bruder beraubt und getan hat, was nicht gut ist unter seinem Volk, siehe, der soll sterben in seiner Missetat!

His father, because he cruelly oppressed and spoyled his brother by violence, and hath not done good among his people, loe, euen he dyeth in his iniquitie.

19 Ihr aber sprechet: Warum soll der Sohn des Vaters Missetat nicht mittragen? Weil der Sohn getan hat, was recht und billig ist; er hat meine Satzungen beobachtet und befolgt; er soll sicherlich leben!

Yet say ye, Wherefore shall not the sonne beare the iniquitie of the father? because ye sonne hath executed iudgement and iustice, and hath kept all my statutes, and done them, he shall surely liue,

20 Die Seele, welche sündigt, die soll sterben! Der Sohn soll nicht die Missetat des Vaters mittragen, und der Vater soll nicht die Missetat des Sohnes mittragen! Auf dem Gerechten sei seine Gerechtigkeit, und auf dem Gottlosen sei seine Gottlosgikeit!

The same soule that sinneth, shall die: the sonne shall not beare the iniquitie of the father, neither shall the father beare the iniquitie of the sonne, but the righteousnes of the righteous shall be vpon him, and the wickednesse of the wicked shall be vpon him selfe.

21 Wenn aber der Gottlose abläßt von allen seinen Sünden, die er begangen hat, und alle meine Satzungen beobachtet und tut, was recht und billig ist, so soll er gewiß leben;

But if the wicked will returne from all his sinnes that he hath committed, and keepe all my statutes, and doe that which is lawfull and right, he shall surely liue, and shall not die.

22 aller seiner Missetat, die er begangen hat, soll nimmermehr gedacht werden! Er soll leben um seiner Gerechtigkeit willen, die er getan hat!

All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned vnto him, but in his righteousnes that he hath done, he shall liue.

23 Oder habe ich etwa Gefallen am Tode des Gottlosen, spricht Gott, der HERR, und nicht vielmehr daran, daß er sich von seinen Wegen bekehre und lebe?

Haue I any desire that the wicked should die, sayth the Lord God? or shall he not liue, if he returne from his wayes?

24 Wenn dagegen der Gerechte sich von seiner Gerechtigkeit abwendet und Unrecht tut und nach allen Greueln des Gottlosen handelt, sollte er leben? Nein, sondern es soll aller seiner Gerechtigkeit, die er getan hat, nicht gedacht werden; in seiner Übertretung, mit der er sich vergangen, und in seiner Sünde, mit der er sich versündigt hat, soll er sterben!

But if the righteous turne away from his righteousnes, and commit iniquitie, and doe according to all the abominations, that the wicked man doeth, shall he liue? all his righteousnes that he hath done, shall not be mentioned: but in his transgression that he hath committed, and in his sinne that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.

25 Dennoch sagt ihr: «Der Weg des HERRN ist nicht richtig!» So höret doch, ihr vom Hause Israel: Mein Weg sollte nicht richtig sein? Sind nicht eure Wege unrichtig?

Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equall: heare now, O house of Israel. Is not my way equall? or are not your wayes vnequall?

26 Wenn der Gerechte sich von seiner Gerechtigkeit abwendet und Unrecht tut, so soll er sterben deswegen; um der Missetat willen, die er getan hat, muß er sterben.

For when a righteous man turneth away from his righteousnes, and committeth iniquitie, he shall euen die for the same, he shall euen die for his iniquitie, that he hath done.

27 Wenn aber der Gottlose sich abwendet von seiner Gottlosigkeit, die er begangen hat, und tut, was recht und billig ist, so wird er seine Seele am Leben erhalten.

Againe when the wicked turneth away from his wickednes that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawfull and right, he shall saue his soule aliue.

28 Weil er es eingesehen und sich abgewendet hat von allen seinen Übertretungen, die er verübt hat, soll er gewiß leben und nicht sterben.

Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that hee hath committed, he shall surely liue and shall not die.

29 Aber das Haus Israel spricht: Der Weg des Herrn ist nicht richtig! Sollten meine Wege nicht richtig sein, Haus Israel?

Yet saith ye house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equall. O house of Israel, are not my wayes equall? or are not your wayes vnequall?

30 Sind nicht eure Wege unrichtig? Darum will ich einen jeden von euch nach seinen Wegen richten, Haus Israel! spricht Gott, der HERR. Kehret um und laßt ab von allen euren Übertretungen, so wird euch die Missetat nicht zum Fall gereichen!

Therefore I will iudge you, O house of Israel, euery one according to his wayes, sayth the Lord God: returne therefore and cause others to turne away from all your transgressions: so iniquitie shall not be your destruction.

31 Werfet alle eure Übertretungen, mit denen ihr übertreten habt, von euch ab und schaffet euch ein neues Herz und einen neuen Geist! Denn warum wollt ihr sterben, ihr vom Hause Israel?

Cast away from you all your transgressions, whereby ye haue transgressed, and make you a newe heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

32 Denn ich habe kein Verlangen nach dem Tode des Sterbenden, spricht Gott, der HERR. So kehret denn um, und ihr sollt leben!

For I desire not the death of him that dyeth, sayth the Lord God: cause therefore one another to returne, and liue ye.
