2 Mose 17
1 Und die ganze Gemeinde der Kinder Israel zog aus der Wüste Sin ihre Tagereisen, nach dem Befehl des HERRN, und lagerte sich in Raphidim; da hatte das Volk kein Wasser zu trinken.
All the congregation of the children of Israel [God prevails] traveled from the wilderness of Cin [Clay], by their journeys, according to Adonai’s order, and encamped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.
2 Darum zankten sie mit Mose und sprachen: Gebt uns Wasser, daß wir trinken! Mose sprach zu ihnen: Was zankt ihr mit mir? Warum versucht ihr den HERRN?
Therefore the people quarreled with Moses [Drawn out], and said, “Give us water to drink.” Moses [Drawn out] said to them, “Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Adonai?”
3 Als nun das Volk daselbst nach Wasser dürstete, murrten sie wider Mose und sprachen: Warum hast du uns aus Ägypten heraufgeführt, daß du uns und unsere Kinder und unser Vieh vor Durst sterben lässest?
The people were thirsty for water there; and the people murmured against Moses [Drawn out], and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt [Abode of slavery], to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”
4 Mose schrie zum HERRN und sprach: Was soll ich mit diesem Volke tun? Es fehlt wenig, sie werden mich noch steinigen!
Moses [Drawn out] cried to Adonai, saying, “What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”
5 Der HERR sprach zu Mose: Gehe hin vor das Volk und nimm etliche Älteste von Israel mit dir und nimm den Stab, mit dem du den Fluß schlugest, in deine Hand und gehe hin.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel [God prevails] with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go.
6 Siehe, ich will daselbst vor dir auf einem Felsen in Horeb stehen; da sollst du den Felsen schlagen, so wird Wasser herauslaufen, daß das Volk trinke. Mose tat also vor den Ältesten Israels.
Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb [Desert]. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” Moses [Drawn out] did so in the sight of the elders of Israel [God prevails].
7 Da hieß man den Ort Massa und Meriba, wegen des Zanks der Kinder Israel, und daß sie den HERRN versucht und gesagt hatten: Ist der HERR mitten unter uns oder nicht?
He called the name of the place Massah [Testing], and Meribah [Quarreling], because the children of Israel [God prevails] quarreled, and because they tested Adonai, saying, “Is Adonai among us, or not?”
8 Da kam Amalek und stritt wider Israel in Raphidim.
Then Amalek [Man who licks up] came and fought with Israel [God prevails] in Rephidim.
9 Und Mose sprach zu Josua: Erwähle uns Männer und ziehe aus, streite wider Amalek! Morgen will ich auf des Hügels Spitze stehen und den Stab Gottes in meiner Hand haben.
Moses [Drawn out] said to Joshua [Yah Salvation], “Choose men for us, and go out, fight with Amalek [Man who licks up]. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God’s rod in my hand.”
10 Und Josua tat, wie Mose ihm sagte, daß er wider Amalek stritt. Mose aber und Aaron und Hur stiegen auf die Spitze des Hügels.
So Joshua [Yah Salvation] did as Moses [Drawn out] had told him, and fought with Amalek [Man who licks up]; and Moses [Drawn out], Aaron [Light-bringer], and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
11 Und solange Mose seine Hände aufhob, siegte Israel; wenn er aber seine Hände sinken ließ, siegte Amalek.
When Moses [Drawn out] held up his hand, Israel [God prevails] prevailed. When he let down his hand, Amalek [Man who licks up] prevailed.
12 Aber die Hände Moses wurden schwer, darum nahmen sie einen Stein und legten denselben unter ihn, daß er sich darauf setzte. Aaron aber und Hur unterstützten seine Hände, auf jeder Seite einer. Also blieben seine Hände fest, bis die Sonne unterging.
But Moses [Drawn out]’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron [Light-bringer] and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset.
13 Und Josua besiegte den Amalek und sein Volk durch die Schärfe des Schwertes.
Joshua [Yah Salvation] defeated Amalek [Man who licks up] and his people with the edge of the sword.
14 Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Schreibe das zum Gedächtnis in ein Buch und lege es Josua in die Ohren, nämlich: ich will das Gedächtnis Amaleks unter dem Himmel ganz austilgen.
Adonai said to Moses [Drawn out], “Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua [Yah Salvation]: that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek [Man who licks up] from under the sky.”
15 Und Mose baute dem HERRN einen Altar und hieß ihn: Der HERR ist mein Panier.
Moses [Drawn out] built an altar, and called its name Adonai our Banner.
16 Und er sprach: Weil eine Hand auf dem Throne des HERRN [erhoben ist], soll der Krieg des HERRN wider Amalek währen, von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht.
He said, “Yah has sworn: ‘Adonai will have war with Amalek [Man who licks up] from generation to generation.’”
