Prediger 11
1 Sende dein Brot übers Wasser, so wirst du es nach langer Zeit wieder finden!
Cast thy bread upon the waters; for after many days thou shalt find it.
2 Verteile an sieben und an acht; denn du weißt nicht, was Schlimmes auf Erden geschehen mag!
Give a portion to seven, yea, to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth.
3 Wenn die Wolken voll sind, so gießen sie Regen auf die Erde. Ob der Baum nach Süden fällt oder nach Norden, nach welchem Ort der Baum fällt, da bleibt er liegen.
When the clouds are full of rain, they empty upon the earth; and when a tree falleth to the south or the north, in the place where the tree falleth, there it shall be.
4 Wer auf den Wind achtet, sät nicht, und wer auf die Wolken sieht, erntet nicht.
He that watcheth the wind will not sow, and he that gazeth upon the clouds will not reap.
5 Gleichwie du nicht weißt, welches der Weg des Windes ist, noch wie die Gebeine im Mutterleib bereitet werden, also kennst du auch das Werk Gottes nicht, der alles wirkt.
As thou knowest not the way of the wind, nor how the bones are formed in the womb of her that is with child, so thou canst not know the work of God, who doeth all things.
6 Frühe säe deinen Samen, und des Abends laß deine Hand nicht ruhen; denn du weißt nicht, ob dieses oder jenes geraten, oder ob beides zugleich gut wird.
In the morning sow thy seed, and in the evening withhold not thy hand! For thou knowest not whether this shall prosper, or that, or whether both of them shall be alike good.
7 Süß ist das Licht, und gut ist's für die Augen, die Sonne zu sehen!
Truly the light is sweet, and a pleasant thing it is for the eyes to behold the sun.
8 Denn wenn der Mensch auch viele Jahre lebt, so soll er sich in ihnen allen freuen und soll bedenken, daß der Tage der Finsternis viele sein werden. Alles, was kommt, ist eitel!
Yea, though a man live many years, let him rejoice in them all, and let him think of the days of darkness; for they shall be many. All that cometh is vanity.
9 Freue dich, Jüngling, in deiner Jugend, und dein Herz sei guter Dinge in den Tagen deines Jünglingsalters; wandle die Wege, die dein Herz erwählt und die deinen Augen gefallen; aber wisse, daß dich Gott für dies alles vor Gericht ziehen wird!
Rejoice, O young man, in thy youth, and let thy heart cheer thee in the days of thy youth, and walk in the ways of thy heart, and in the sight of thine eyes! but know thou, that for all these things God will bring thee into judgment.
10 Entferne alle Verdrießlichkeit von deinem Herzen und halte dir das Übel vom Leibe fern! Denn Jugend und Morgenrot sind vergänglich!
Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy body! for childhood and youth are vanity.
