Daniel 1
1 Im dritten Jahre der Regierung Jojakims, des Königs von Juda, kam Nebukadnezar, der König von Babel, vor Jerusalem und belagerte es.
In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has come to Jerusalem, and lays siege against it;
2 Und der Herr gab Jojakim, den König von Juda, in seine Gewalt, auch einen Teil der Geräte des Hauses Gottes; diese führte er hinweg in das Land Sinear, in das Haus seines Gottes, und brachte sie daselbst in die Schatzkammer seines Gottes.
and the Lord gives into his hand Jehoiakim king of Judah, and some of the vessels of the house of God, and he brings them in [to] the land of Shinar, [to] the house of his god, and the vessels he has brought in [to] the treasure-house of his god.
3 Und der König befahl Aspenas, dem Obersten seiner Kämmerer, er solle ihm etliche von den Kindern Israel bringen, die von königlichem Samen und von den Vornehmsten wären,
And the king says, to Ashpenaz master of his eunuchs, to bring in out of the sons of Israel (even of the royal seed, and of the chiefs),
4 Jünglinge, die ohne jeden Makel, schön von Gestalt und für alle Wissenschaften begabt wären, die Einsicht und Verstand hätten und welche tüchtig wären, in des Königs Palaste zu stehen, und daß man sie in der Schrift und Sprache der Chaldäer unterwiese.
boys in whom there is no blemish, and of good appearance, and skillful in all wisdom, and possessing knowledge, and teaching thought, and who have ability to stand in the palace of the king, and to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeans.
5 Diesen bestimmte der König den täglichen Unterhalt von der feinen Speise des Königs und von dem Weine, den er selbst trank, und verordnete, daß man sie drei Jahre lang erzöge und daß sie hernach vor dem König stehen sollten.
And the king appoints for them a rate, day by day, of the king’s portion of food, and of the wine of his drinking, so as to nourish them three years, that at the end thereof they may stand before the king.
6 Unter denselben waren von den Kindern Juda Daniel, Hananja, Misael und Asarja.
And there are among them out of the sons of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
7 Diesen gab der oberste Kämmerer andere Namen und hieß den Daniel Beltsazar, den Hananja Sadrach, den Misael Mesach und den Asarja Abednego.
and the chief of the eunuchs sets names on them, and he sets on Daniel, Belteshazzar; and on Hananiah, Shadrach; and on Mishael, Meshach; and on Azariah, Abed-Nego.
8 Daniel aber nahm sich vor, sich mit des Königs feiner Speise und mit dem Weine, den er trank, nicht zu verunreinigen; er erbat sich von dem obersten Kämmerer, daß er sich nicht verunreinigen müsse.
And Daniel purposes in his heart that he will not defile himself with the king’s portion of food, and with the wine of his drinking, and he seeks of the chief of the eunuchs that he may not defile himself.
9 Und Gott gab Daniel Gnade und Barmherzigkeit vor dem obersten Kämmerer.
And God gives Daniel for kindness and for mercies before the chief of the eunuchs;
10 Und der oberste Kämmerer sprach zu Daniel: Ich fürchte nur meinen Herrn, den König, der euch eure Speise und euer Getränk bestimmt hat. Denn warum sollte er wahrnehmen, daß euer Aussehen weniger gut wäre, als das der andern Jünglinge von eurem Alter? So wäret ihr schuld, wenn ich meinen Kopf beim König verwirkte!
and the chief of the eunuchs says to Daniel, “I am fearing my lord the king, who has appointed your food and your drink, for why does he see your faces sadder than [those of] the boys which [are] of your circle? Then you have made my head indebted to the king,”
11 Da antwortete Daniel dem Kellermeister, welchen der oberste Kämmerer über Daniel, Hananja, Misael und Asarja gesetzt hatte:
And Daniel says to the Meltzar, whom the chief of the eunuchs has appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah,
12 Versuche es doch zehn Tage lang mit deinen Knechten, daß man uns Gemüse zu essen und Wasser zu trinken gebe;
“Please try your servants [for] ten days; and they give to us from the vegetables and we eat, and water, and we drink;
13 darnach besehe man vor dir unser Aussehen und das Aussehen der andern Jünglinge, welche von der feinen Speise des Königs essen; nach dem, was du dann sehen wirst, handle weiter mit deinen Knechten!
and our appearance is seen before you, and the appearance of the boys who are eating the king’s portion of food, and as you see—deal with your servants.”
14 Da hörte er auf sie in dieser Sache und versuchte es zehn Tage lang mit ihnen.
And he listens to them, to this word, and tries them ten days:
15 Und nach den zehn Tagen sah man, daß sie besser aussahen und am Leibe fetter waren, als alle Jünglinge, die von der feinen Speise des Königs aßen.
and at the end of ten days their appearance has appeared better and fatter in flesh then any of the boys who are eating the king’s portion of food.
16 Da nahm der Kellermeister ihre feine Speise und den Wein, den sie trinken sollten, hinweg und gab ihnen Gemüse.
And the Meltzar is taking away their portion of food, and the wine of their drink, and is giving to them vegetables.
17 Und Gott gab diesen vier Jünglingen Kenntnis und Verständnis für allerlei Schriften und Weisheit; vorzüglich aber machte er Daniel verständig in allen Gesichten und Träumen.
As for these four boys, God has given to them knowledge and understanding in every [kind of] literature, and wisdom; and Daniel has given instruction about every [kind of] vision and dreams.
18 Nachdem nun die Zeit, welche der König bestimmt hatte, verflossen war, führte sie der oberste Kämmerer vor Nebukadnezar.
And at the end of the days that the king had said to bring them in, the chief of the eunuchs brings them in before Nebuchadnezzar.
19 Da redete der König mit ihnen; aber keiner unter ihnen allen ward gefunden, der Daniel, Hananja, Misael und Asarja gleichgekommen wäre; darum mußten sie vor dem König stehen.
And the king speaks with them, and there has not been found among them all like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, and they stand before the king;
20 Der fand sie in allen Sachen der Weisheit und Einsicht, worüber er sie befragte, zehnmal geschickter als alle Schriftkundigen und Wahrsager, die er in seinem ganzen Reiche hatte.
and [in] any matter of wisdom [and] understanding that the king has sought of them, he finds them ten hands above all the enchanters, the conjurers, who [are] in all his kingdom.
21 Und Daniel erlebte das erste Jahr des Königs Kores.
And Daniel is to the first year of Cyrus the king.
