Amos 6
1 Wehe den Sorglosen zu Zion und den Sichern auf dem Berge Samaria, den Vornehmsten des ersten der Völker, zu denen das Haus Israel kommt!
Sorrow awaits who are carefree in Zion, overconfident on the mountain of Samaria! The elite of this, the best of nations, on whom the people of Israel rest their hopes!
2 Geht hinüber nach Kalne und seht es euch an und kommt dann von dort nach dem großen Hamat; steigt auch hinab nach Gat im Philisterland! Seid ihr besser als diese Königreiche, oder ist ihr Gebiet größer als euer Gebiet?
You say to the people: Cross over to Calneh and see, go from there to Hamath the great, then go down to Gath of the Philistines: Are they better than these kingdoms? Is their territory larger than yours?
3 Ihr meinet, der böse Tag sei fern und rücket den Thron der Gewalttat heran!
You push away all thoughts of the evil day, yet have instituted a rule of violence.
4 Ihr schlafet auf elfenbeinernen Betten und strecket euch aus auf euren Polstern; ihr verzehret Lämmer von der Herde weg und Kälber frisch aus dem Stall!
They lie on ivory couches, sprawl on their divans, eat choice lambs from the flock, and fattened calves from the stall.
5 Sie phantasieren auf der Harfe und dichten sich selbst Lieder wie David!
They idly sing to the sound of the lyre, thinking themselves songwriters like David,
6 Sie trinken Wein aus Schalen und salben sich mit dem besten Öl; aber um den Schaden Josephs kümmern sie sich nicht!
they drink bowlfuls of wine, and anoint themselves with the finest of oil. But they do not grieve over the ruin of Joseph.
7 Darum sollen sie nun an der Spitze der Gefangenen in die Verbannung wandern, und das Jauchzen der Schlemmer wird verstummen.
Therefore now they must go into exile at the head of the captives, and hushed will be the revelry of the sprawlers.
8 Gott, der HERR, hat geschworen: So wahr ich lebe, spricht der HERR, der Gott der Heerscharen, ich verabscheue Jakobs Stolz und hasse seine Paläste; darum gebe ich die Stadt preis, samt allem, was darin ist.
The Lord God, the Lord, the God of hosts, has sworn by himself: I abhor the pride of Jacob, I hate his palaces, therefore I will deliver up the city and all that is in it to their enemies.
9 Und wenn gleich zehn Männer in einem Hause übrigbleiben, so sollen sie sterben.
If ten people remain in one house, then they will die.
10 Und heben dann sein Oheim und sein Leichenverbrenner den Toten auf, um die Gebeine aus dem Hause zu schaffen, und fragt er den drinnen im Hause: «Ist noch jemand bei dir?» so wird er antworten: «Niemand mehr!» Dann wird er sagen: «Still! Denn der Name des HERRN soll nicht erwähnt werden!»
When the uncle and another member of the family of a dead man come to carry the body out of the house for burial, they will call to someone in a corner of the house, ‘Any more there?’ and he will answer, ‘No’, and then he will add, ‘Be quiet!’ – for the name of the Lord must not be mentioned.
11 Denn siehe, der HERR wird Befehl geben, daß das große Haus in Trümmer gelegt und das kleine Haus in Stücke geschlagen werde.
Look! The Lord is giving the command! He will smash the large house to bits, the small house into fragments.
12 Können Rosse auf Felsen rennen, oder kann man mit Rindern das Meer pflügen, da ihr das Recht in Gift verwandelt habt und die Frucht der Gerechtigkeit in Wermut,
Do horses gallop on crags? Does one plow the sea with oxen? Yet you turn justice into poison weed, and the fruit of righteousness into bitter wormwood.
13 und da ihr euch dessen freuet, was nicht der Rede wert ist, und saget: «Haben wir nicht mit eigener Kraft uns Hörner verschafft?»
You who are so proud of capturing Lo-debar, who say, ‘Have we not by our own strength taken Karnaim for ourselves?’
14 Doch seht, ich erwecke wider euch, Haus Israel (spricht der HERR, der Gott der Heerscharen), ein Volk, das euch bedrängen wird von da, wo es nach Hamat geht, bis an den Bach der Wüste.
I am now raising up against you, Israel, a nation, says the Lord, the God of hosts. They will oppress you, from the entrance of Hamath to the brook of the Arabah.
