Apostelgeschichte 6
1 In jenen Tagen aber, als die Zahl der Jünger wuchs, entstand ein Murren der Hellenisten gegen die Hebräer, weil ihre Witwen bei der täglichen Hilfeleistung übersehen wurden.
Now in these days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, a complaint by the Grecian Jews began against the Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily distribution of food.
2 Da beriefen die Zwölf die Menge der Jünger zusammen und sprachen: Es ziemt sich nicht, daß wir das Wort Gottes verlassen, um bei den Tischen zu dienen.
The twelve called the multitude of the disciples to them and said, “It is not right for us to give up the word of God in order to serve tables.
3 Darum, ihr Brüder, sehet euch nach sieben Männern aus eurer Mitte um, von gutem Zeugnis, voll [heiligen] Geistes und Weisheit; die wollen wir für diesen Bedarf bestellen,
You should therefore choose, brothers, seven men from among yourselves, men of good reputation, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
4 wir aber wollen im Gebet und im Dienste des Wortes verharren.
As for us, we will always continue in prayer and in the ministry of the word.”
5 Und die Rede gefiel der ganzen Menge, und sie erwählten Stephanus, einen Mann voll Glaubens und heiligen Geistes, und Philippus und Prochorus und Nikanor und Timon und Parmenas und Nikolaus, einen Proselyten aus Antiochia.
Their speech pleased the whole multitude. So they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus, a proselyte from Antioch.
6 Diese stellten sie vor die Apostel, und sie beteten und legten ihnen die Hände auf.
The believers brought these men before the apostles, who prayed and then placed their hands upon them.
7 Und das Wort Gottes nahm zu, und die Zahl der Jünger mehrte sich sehr zu Jerusalem, auch eine große Zahl von Priestern wurden dem Glauben gehorsam.
So the word of God continued to spread, and the number of disciples in Jerusalem increased greatly, and a large number of the priests became obedient to the faith.
8 Stephanus aber, voll Gnade und Kraft, tat Wunder und große Zeichen unter dem Volk.
Now Stephen, full of grace and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people.
9 Es standen aber etliche aus der sogenannten Synagoge der Libertiner und Kyrenäer und Alexandriner und derer von Cilicien und Asien auf und stritten mit Stephanus.
But there arose some people who belonged to the synagogue called the synagogue of the Freedmen, of the Cyrenians and Alexandrians, and some from Cilicia and Asia. These people were debating with Stephen.
10 Und sie vermochten der Weisheit und dem Geist, womit er redete, nicht zu widerstehen.
But they were not able to stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which Stephen spoke.
11 Da stifteten sie Männer an, die sagten: Wir haben ihn Lästerworte wider Mose und Gott reden hören.
Then they bribed some men to say, “We have heard Stephen speak blasphemous words against Moses and against God.”
12 Und sie wiegelten das Volk und die Ältesten und die Schriftgelehrten auf, überfielen ihn, rissen ihn fort und führten ihn vor den Hohen Rat.
They stirred up the people, the elders, and the scribes, and they approached Stephen and seized him and brought him before the council.
13 Und sie stellten falsche Zeugen, die sagten: Dieser Mensch hört nicht auf, Reden zu führen wider diese heilige Stätte und das Gesetz!
They brought false witnesses, who said, “This man does not stop speaking words against this holy place and the law.
14 Denn wir haben ihn sagen hören: Dieser Jesus von Nazareth wird diese Stätte zerstören und die Gebräuche ändern, die uns Mose überliefert hat!
For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs that Moses handed down to us.”
15 Und da alle, die im Hohen Rate saßen, ihn anblickten, sahen sie sein Angesicht, [das war] wie eines Engels Angesicht.
Everyone who sat in the council fixed their eyes on him and saw his face was like the face of an angel.
