Apostelgeschichte 22
1 Ihr Männer, Brüder und Väter, höret jetzt meine Verteidigung vor euch an!
Ye men brethre and fathers heare myne answere which I make vnto you.
2 Als sie aber hörten, daß er in hebräischer Sprache zu ihnen redete, wurden sie noch ruhiger; und er sprach:
Whe they hearde that he spake in ye Ebrue tonge to them they kept the moore silence. And he sayde:
3 Ich bin ein jüdischer Mann, geboren zu Tarsus in Cilicien, aber erzogen in dieser Stadt, zu den Füßen Gamaliels, unterrichtet mit allem Fleiß im väterlichen Gesetz, und ich war ein Eiferer für Gott, wie ihr alle es heute seid.
I am verely aman which am a Iewe borne in Tharsus a cite in Cicill: neverthelesse yet brought vp in this cite at ye fete of Gamaliel and informed diligently in the lawe of the fathers and was fervent mynded to Godwarde as ye all are this same daye
4 Ich verfolgte diesen Weg bis auf den Tod, indem ich Männer und Frauen band und ins Gefängnis überlieferte,
and I persecuted this waye vnto the deeth byndynge and delyveringe into preson bothe men and wemen
5 wie mir auch der Hohepriester und der ganze Rat der Ältesten Zeugnis gibt. Von ihnen empfing ich sogar Briefe an die Brüder und zog nach Damaskus, um auch die, welche dort waren, gebunden nach Jerusalem zu führen, damit sie bestraft würden.
as the chefe prest doth beare me witnes and all the elders: of whom also I receaved letters vnto the brethren and wet to Damasco to bringe them which were there bounde vnto Ierusalem for to be punysshed.
6 Es geschah mir aber, als ich auf meiner Reise in die Nähe von Damaskus kam, daß mich am Mittag plötzlich vom Himmel her ein helles Licht umstrahlte.
And it fortuned as I made my iorney and was come nye vnto Damasco aboute none yt sodenly ther shone fro heaven a greate lyght rounde aboute me
7 Und ich fiel zu Boden und hörte eine Stimme, die zu mir sprach: Saul! Saul! was verfolgst du mich?
and I fell vnto the erth and hearde a voyce sayinge vnto me: Saul Saul why persecutest thou me?
8 Ich aber antwortete: Wer bist du, Herr? Und er sprach zu mir: Ich bin Jesus, der Nazarener, den du verfolgst!
And I answered: what arte thou Lorde? And he sayd vnto me: I am Iesus of Nazareth whom thou persecutest.
9 Meine Begleiter aber sahen zwar das Licht und wurden voll Furcht, aber die Stimme dessen, der mit mir redete, hörten sie nicht.
And they that were with me sawe verely a lyght and were a frayde: but they hearde not the voyce of him that spake with me.
10 Und ich sprach: Was soll ich tun, Herr? Der Herr sprach zu mir: Steh auf und gehe nach Damaskus; dort wird man dir alles sagen, was dir zu tun verordnet ist.
And I sayde: what shall I do Lorde? And the Lorde sayde vnto me: Aryse and goo into Damasco and there it shalbe tolde the of all thinges which are apoynted for the to do.
11 Da ich aber vor dem Glanze jenes Lichtes nicht sehen konnte, wurde ich von meinen Begleitern an der Hand geführt und kam nach Damaskus.
And when I sawe nothynge for the brightnes of that light I was ledde by the honde of them that were with me and came into Damasco.
12 Aber ein gewisser Ananias, ein frommer Mann nach dem Gesetz, der von allen Juden, die dort wohnten, ein gutes Zeugnis hat,
And one Ananias a perfect man and as pertayninge to the lawe havinge good reporte of all the Iewes which there dwelt
13 der kam zu mir, trat herzu und sprach zu mir: Bruder Saul, werde wieder sehend! Und zur selben Stunde konnte ich ihn sehen.
came vnto me and stode and sayd vnto me: Brother Saul loke vp. And that same houre I receaved my sight and sawe him.
14 Er aber sprach: Der Gott unsrer Väter hat dich vorherbestimmt, seinen Willen zu erkennen und den Gerechten zu sehen und die Stimme aus seinem Munde zu hören;
And he sayde the God of oure fathers hath ordeyned the before that thou shuldest knowe his will and shuldest se that which is rightfull and shuldest heare the voyce of his mouth:
15 denn du sollst bei allen Menschen ein Zeuge für ihn sein von dem, was du gesehen und gehört hast.
for thou shalt be his witnes vnto all men of tho thinges which thou thou hast sene and hearde.
16 Und nun, was zögerst du? Steh auf, laß dich taufen und deine Sünden abwaschen, indem du seinen Namen anrufst!
And now: why tariest thou? Aryse and be baptised and wesshe awaye thy synnes in callinge on ye name of ye Lorde.
17 Es geschah mir aber, als ich nach Jerusalem zurückgekehrt war und im Tempel betete, daß ich in eine Verzückung geriet
And it fortuned when I was come agayne to Ierusalem and prayde in the teple yt I was in a trauce
18 und Ihn sah, der zu mir sprach: Eile und geh schnell aus Jerusalem fort, denn sie werden dein Zeugnis von mir nicht annehmen!
and sawe him sayinge vnto me. Make haste and get the quickly out of Ierusalem: for they will not receave thy witnes yt thou bearest of me.
19 Und ich sprach: Herr, sie wissen selbst, daß ich die, welche an dich glaubten, ins Gefängnis werfen und in den Synagogen schlagen ließ,
And I sayde: Lorde they knowe that I presoned and bet in every synagoge them that beleved on the.
20 und daß auch ich dabei stand, als das Blut deines Zeugen Stephanus vergossen wurde, und seiner Hinrichtung beistimmte und die Kleider derer verwahrte, die ihn töteten.
And when the bloud of thy witnes Steven was sheed I also stode by and consented vnto his deeth and kept the rayment of them that slewe him.
21 Und er sprach zu mir: Gehe hin, denn ich will dich in die Ferne zu den Heiden senden!
And he sayde vnto me: departe for I will sende the a farre hence vnto the Gentyls.
22 Sie hörten ihm aber zu bis zu diesem Wort; da erhoben sie ihre Stimme und sprachen: Hinweg mit solchem von der Erde! Denn es ziemt sich nicht, daß er am Leben bleibe!
They gave him audience vnto this worde and then lifte vp their voyces and sayde: a waye wt soche a felowe fro the erth: yt is pitie that he shuld live.
23 Als sie aber schrieen und die Kleider abwarfen und Staub in die Luft schleuderten,
And as they cryed and cast of their clothes and thrue dust into ye ayer
24 ließ der Oberste ihn in die Kaserne führen und befahl, ihn unter Geißelhieben zu verhören, damit er erführe, aus welchem Grund sie derart über ihn schrieen.
ye captayne bade him to be brought into the castle and commaunded him to be scourged and to be examined that he myght knowe wherfore they cryed on him.
25 Als sie ihn aber [für die Geißelung] mit den Riemen ausstreckten, sprach Paulus zu dem Hauptmann, der dabeistand: Ist es euch erlaubt, einen Römer, dazu noch ohne Urteil, zu geißeln?
And as they bounde him with thoges Paul sayde vnto the Centurion that stode by: Ys it laufull for you to scourge a man that is a Romain and vncondempned?
26 Als der Hauptmann das hörte, ging er zu dem Obersten, meldete es ihm und sprach: Siehe zu, was du tun willst, denn dieser Mensch ist ein Römer!
When the Centurion hearde that he went and tolde the vpper captayne sayinge: What intendest thou to do? This man is a Romayne.
27 Da kam der Oberste herzu und sprach zu ihm: Sage mir, bist du ein Römer? Er antwortete: Ja!
Then the vpper captayne came and sayde to him: tell me art thou a Romayne? He sayde: Yee.
28 Und der Oberste erwiderte: Ich habe dieses Bürgerrecht um eine große Summe erworben. Paulus aber sprach: Und ich bin sogar darin geboren!
And the captayne answered: with a greate some obtayned I this fredome. And Paul sayde: I was fre borne.
29 Alsbald standen die, welche ihn peinlich verhören wollten, von ihm ab, und auch der Oberste fürchtete sich, da er vernommen hatte, daß er ein Römer sei, und weil er ihn hatte fesseln lassen.
Then strayght waye departed from him they which shuld have examyned him. And the hye captayne also was a frayde after he knewe that he was a Romayne: because he had bounde him.
30 Am folgenden Tage aber, da er mit Gewißheit erfahren wollte, wessen er von den Juden angeklagt werde, entledigte er ihn der Fesseln und ließ die Hohenpriester samt dem ganzen Hohen Rat zusammenkommen und führte Paulus hinab und stellte ihn vor sie.
On the morowe because he wolde have knowen the certayntie wherfore he was accused of the Iewes he lowsed him from his bondes and commaunded the hye Prestes and all the counsell to come together and brought Paul and set him before them.
