2 Samuel 9

1 Und David sprach: Ist noch jemand übriggeblieben vom Hause Sauls, daß ich Barmherzigkeit an ihm erweise um Jonatans willen?

And David said, “Do you think that there could be anyone left from the house of Saul, so that I might show mercy to him because of Jonathan?”

2 Es war aber ein Knecht vom Hause Sauls, der hieß Ziba; den beriefen sie zu David; und der König sprach zu ihm: Bist du Ziba? Er sprach: Ja, dein Knecht!

Now there was, from the house of Saul, a servant named Ziba. And when the king had called him to himself, he said to him, “Are you not Ziba?” And he responded, “I am your servant.”

3 Der König sprach: Ist noch jemand da vom Hause Sauls, daß ich Gottes Barmherzigkeit an ihm erweise? Ziba sprach zum König: Es ist noch ein Sohn Jonatans vorhanden, der lahm an den Füßen ist.

And the king said, “Could there be anyone alive from the house of Saul, so that I may show the mercy of God to him?” And Ziba said to the king, “There is left alive a son of Jonathan, with disabled feet.”

4 Der König sprach zu ihm: Wo ist er? Ziba sprach zum König: Siehe, er ist zu Lodebar, im Hause Machirs, des Sohnes Ammiels!

“Where is he?” he said. And Ziba said to the king, “Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lodebar.”

5 Da sandte der König David hin und ließ ihn holen von Lodebar aus dem Hause Machirs, des Sohnes Ammiels.

Therefore, king David sent and brought him from the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lodebar.

6 Als nun Mephiboset, der Sohn Jonatans, des Sohnes Sauls, zu David kam, fiel er auf sein Angesicht und verneigte sich. David aber sprach: Mephiboset! Er sprach: Siehe, hier bin ich, dein Knecht!

And when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, had come to David, he fell upon his face, and he reverenced. And David said, “Mephibosheth?” And he responded, “Your servant is here.”

7 David sprach zu ihm: Fürchte dich nicht; denn ich will gewiß Barmherzigkeit an dir erzeigen um Jonatans, deines Vaters willen und will dir alle Äcker deines Vaters Saul wiedergeben; du aber sollst täglich an meinem Tisch das Brot essen!

And David said to him: “Do not be afraid. For I will certainly show mercy to you because of your father Jonathan. And I will restore to you all the fields of your father Saul. And you shall eat bread at my table always.”

8 Da verneigte er sich und sprach: Wer bin ich, dein Knecht, daß du dich wendest zu einem toten Hunde, wie ich einer bin?

And reverencing him, he said, “Who am I, your servant, that you should look with favor upon a dead dog like me?”

9 Und der König rief Ziba, den Knecht Sauls, und sprach zu ihm: Alles, was Saul und seinem ganzen Hause gehört hat, habe ich dem Sohne deines Herrn gegeben.

And so, the king called Ziba, the servant of Saul, and he said to him: “Everything whatsoever that belonged to Saul, and his entire house, I have given to the son of your lord.

10 So bestelle ihm nun sein Land, du und deine Söhne und deine Knechte, und bring [die Ernte] ein, damit der Sohn deines Herrn Brot zu essen habe; Mephiboset aber, der Sohn deines Herrn, soll täglich an meinem Tisch essen. Ziba aber hatte fünfzehn Söhne und zwanzig Knechte.

And so, work the land for him, you and your sons and your servants. And you shall bring in food for the son of your lord, for nourishment. And Mephibosheth, the son of your lord, shall always eat bread at my table.” Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.

11 Und Ziba sprach zum König: Ganz so, wie mein Herr, der König, seinem Knechte gebietet, wird dein Knecht tun! Also aß Mephiboset an seinem Tisch, wie einer der Söhne des Königs.

And Ziba said to the king: “Just as my lord has ordered your servant, so will your servant do. And Mephibosheth shall eat at my table, like one of the sons of the king.”

12 Und Mephiboset hatte einen kleinen Sohn, der hieß Micha. Und alles, was im Hause Zibas wohnte, diente Mephiboset.

Now Mephibosheth had a young son whose name was Mica. Truly, all the kindred of the house of Ziba served Mephibosheth.

13 Mephiboset aber wohnte zu Jerusalem, denn er aß täglich an des Königs Tisch. Er war aber lahm an beiden Füßen.

But Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem. For he was fed always from the table of the king. And he was lame in both feet.
