2 Samuel 14
1 Als aber Joab, der Sohn der Zeruja, merkte, daß des Königs Herz sich zu Absalom neigte,
And Joab son of Zeruial knows that the heart of the king [is] on Absalom,
2 sandte er hin gen Tekoa und ließ ein kluges Weib von dort holen und sprach zu ihr: Stelle dich doch trauernd und ziehe Trauerkleider an und salbe dich nicht mit Öl, sondern stelle dich wie ein Weib, das lange Zeit um einen Toten Leid getragen hat.
and Joab sends to Tekoah, and takes a wise woman from there, and says to her, “Please feign yourself a mourner, and now put on garments of mourning, and do not anoint yourself with oil, and you have been as a woman mourning for the dead [for] these many days,
3 Dann sollst du zum König hineingehen und mit ihm reden so und so. Und Joab legte die Worte in ihren Mund.
and you have gone to the king, and spoken to him, according to this word”; and Joab puts the words into her mouth.
4 Als nun das Weib von Tekoa mit dem König reden wollte, fiel sie auf ihr Angesicht zur Erde, verneigte sich und sprach: Hilf mir, o König!
And the woman of Tekoah speaks to the king, and falls on her face to the earth, and pays respect, and says, “Save, O king.”
5 Der König aber sprach zu ihr: Was fehlt dir? Sie sprach: Wahrlich, ich bin eine Witwe, denn mein Mann ist gestorben!
And the king says to her, “What do you [want]?” And she says, “I [am] truly a widow woman, and my husband dies,
6 Und deine Magd hat zwei Söhne, die zankten miteinander auf dem Felde, und als ihnen niemand wehrte, schlug einer den andern und tötete ihn.
and your maidservant has two sons; and both of them strive in a field, and there is no deliverer between them, and one strikes the other, and puts him to death;
7 Und siehe, nun ist die ganze Verwandtschaft wider deine Magd und sagt: Gib den her, der seinen Bruder erschlagen hat, daß wir ihn töten für die Seele seines Bruders, den er umgebracht hat, und daß wir auch den Erben vertilgen! Sie wollen also den Funken auslöschen, der mir noch übriggeblieben ist, daß meinem Mann kein Name und keine Nachkommenschaft auf Erden bleibe.
and behold, the whole family has risen against your maidservant, and say, Give up him who strikes his brother, and we put him to death for the life of his brother whom he has slain, and we also destroy the heir; and they have quenched my coal which is left—so as not to set a name and remnant on the face of the ground for my husband.”
8 Da sprach der König zum Weibe: Gehe heim, ich will deinetwegen Befehle geben!
And the king says to the woman, “Go to your house, and I give charge concerning you.”
9 Da sprach das Weib von Tekoa zum König: Auf mir sei die Schuld und auf meines Vaters Haus; der König aber und sein Thron seien unschuldig!
And the woman of Tekoah says to the king, “On me, my lord, O king, [is] the iniquity, and on the house of my father; and the king and his throne [are] innocent.”
10 Der König sprach: Wer wider dich redet, den bringe zu mir, so soll er dich nicht mehr angreifen!
And the king says, “He who speaks to you, and you have brought him to me, then he does not add to come against you anymore.”
11 Sie sprach: Der König gedenke doch an den HERRN, deinen Gott, daß der Bluträcher nicht noch mehr Unheil anrichte und daß man meinen Sohn nicht verderbe! Er sprach: So wahr der HERR lebt, es soll kein Haar von deinem Sohn auf die Erde fallen!
And she says, “Please let the king remember by your God YHWH, that the redeemer of blood does not add to destroy, and they do not destroy my son”; and he says, “YHWH lives; if there falls [even one] hair of your son to the earth.”
12 Und das Weib sprach: Laß doch deine Magd meinem Herrn, dem König, etwas sagen. Er aber sprach: Sag her!
And the woman says, “Please let your maidservant speak a word to my lord the king”; and he says, “Speak.”
13 Das Weib sprach: Warum hast du denn solches wider das Volk Gottes im Sinn? Und mit dem, was der König geredet, hat er sich selbst schuldig gesprochen, weil der König seinen Verstoßenen nicht zurückholen läßt.
And the woman says, “And why have you thought thus concerning the people of God? Indeed, the king is speaking this thing as a guilty one, in that the king has not brought back his outcast;
14 Denn wir müssen zwar gewiß sterben und sind wie das Wasser, das in die Erde versiegt und welches man nicht wieder auffangen kann. Aber Gott will das Leben nicht hinwegnehmen, sondern sinnt darauf, daß der Verstoßene nicht von ihm verstoßen bleibe.
for we surely die, and [are] as water which is running down to the earth, which is not gathered, and God does not accept a person, and has devised plans in that the outcast is not outcast by Him.
15 Daß ich nun gekommen bin, mit meinem Herrn, dem König, solches zu reden, geschah deshalb, weil das Volk mir Angst machte; deine Magd aber dachte: Ich will doch mit dem König reden; vielleicht wird der König tun, was seine Magd sagt;
And now that I have come to speak this word to my lord the king, [it is] because the people made me afraid, and your maidservant says, Please let me speak to the king; it may be the king does the word of his handmaid,
16 denn der König wird seine Magd erhören, daß er mich errette aus der Hand des Mannes, der mich samt meinem Sohn aus dem Erbe Gottes vertilgen will.
for the king listens to deliver his handmaid out of the paw of the man [seeking] to destroy me and my son together out of the inheritance of God,
17 Und deine Magd dachte: Meines Herrn, des Königs Wort wird mir ein Trost sein; denn mein Herr, der König, ist wie ein Engel Gottes, um Gutes und Böses anzuhören, darum sei der HERR, dein Gott, mit dir!
and your maidservant says, Please let the word of my lord the king be for ease; for as a messenger of God so [is] my lord the king, to understand the good and the evil; and your God YHWH is with you.”
18 Der König antwortete und sprach zu dem Weibe: Verhehle mir doch nicht, was ich dich frage! Das Weib sprach: Mein Herr, der König, sage an!
And the king answers and says to the woman, “Please do not hide from me the thing that I am asking you”; and the woman says, “Please let my lord the king speak.”
19 Der König sprach: Ist nicht Joabs Hand mit dir bei alledem? Das Weib antwortete und sprach: So wahr deine Seele lebt, mein Herr und König, es ist nicht möglich, weder zur Rechten noch zur Linken auszuweichen bei allem, was mein Herr, der König, sagt. Ja, dein Knecht Joab hat es mir befohlen, und er selbst hat alle diese Worte deiner Magd in den Mund gelegt.
And the king says, “Is the hand of Joab with you in all this?” And the woman answers and says, “Your soul lives, my lord, O king, none [turn] to the right or to the left from all that my lord the king has spoken; for your servant Joab commanded me, and he put all these words in the mouth of your maidservant.
20 Um der Sache ein anderes Aussehen zu geben, hat dein Knecht Joab so gehandelt; mein Herr ist so weise wie ein Engel Gottes, daß er alles auf Erden weiß!
Your servant Joab has done this thing in order to bring around the appearance of the thing, and my lord [is] wise, according to the wisdom of a messenger of God, to know all that [is] in the land.”
21 Da sprach der König zu Joab: Siehe, ich habe diese Worte ausgesprochen; so gehe nun hin und hole den Jüngling Absalom zurück!
And the king says to Joab, “Now behold, you have done this thing; and go, bring back the young man Absalom.”
22 Da fiel Joab auf sein Angesicht und verneigte sich und segnete den König und sprach: Heute merkt dein Knecht, daß ich vor deinen Augen Gnade gefunden habe, mein Herr und König, da der König tut, was sein Knecht sagt!
And Joab falls on his face to the earth, and pays respect, and blesses the king, and Joab says, “Today your servant has known that I have found grace in your eyes, my lord, O king, in that the king has done the word of his servant.”
23 Also machte sich Joab auf und zog nach Geschur und brachte Absalom nach Jerusalem.
And Joab rises and goes to Geshur, and brings in Absalom to Jerusalem,
24 Aber der König sprach: Laß ihn wieder in sein Haus gehen, und mein Angesicht soll er nicht sehen! Also ging Absalom wieder in sein Haus und sah das Angesicht des Königs nicht.
and the king says, “Let him turn around to his house, and he does not see my face.” And Absalom turns around to his house, and he has not seen the face of the king.
25 Aber in ganz Israel war kein Mann so schön und so berühmt wie Absalom. Von der Fußsohle bis zum Scheitel war kein Makel an ihm.
And there was no man [so] beautiful in all Israel like Absalom, to praise greatly; from the sole of his foot even to his crown there was no blemish in him;
26 Und wenn er sein Haupt scheren ließ (dies geschah nämlich zu Ende eines jeden Jahres, denn es war ihm zu schwer, also daß man es abscheren mußte), so wog sein Haupthaar zweihundert Schekel nach königlichem Gewicht.
and in his shaving his head—and it has been at the end of year by year that he shaves [it], for it [is] heavy on him, and he has shaved it—he has even weighed out the hair of his head—two hundred shekels by the king’s weight.
27 Und dem Absalom wurden drei Söhne geboren und eine Tochter, die hieß Tamar; die war ein Weib von schöner Gestalt.
And there are born to Absalom three sons and one daughter, and her name [is] Tamar; she was a woman of beautiful appearance.
28 Und Absalom blieb zwei Jahre lang zu Jerusalem, ohne daß er das Angesicht des Königs sah.
And Absalom dwells in Jerusalem [for] two years of days, and he has not seen the face of the king;
29 Dann aber sandte Absalom nach Joab, um ihn zum König zu schicken; aber er wollte nicht zu ihm kommen. Er aber sandte noch einmal; dennoch wollte jener nicht kommen.
and Absalom sends to Joab, to send him to the king, and he has not been willing to come to him; and he sends again a second time, and he has not been willing to come.
30 Da sprach er zu seinen Knechten: Habt ihr den Acker Joabs gesehen, der neben dem meinigen liegt und darauf er Gerste hat? Geht hin und zündet sie an! Da steckten die Knechte Absaloms das Stück Acker in Brand.
And he says to his servants, “See, the portion of Joab [is] by the side of mine, and he has barley there; go and burn it with fire”; and the servants of Absalom burn the portion with fire.
31 Da machte sich Joab auf und kam zu Absalom ins Haus und sprach zu ihm: Warum haben deine Knechte mein Stück Acker in Brand gesteckt?
And Joab rises and comes to Absalom in the house, and says to him, “Why have your servants burned the portion that I have with fire?”
32 Absalom sprach zu Joab: Siehe, ich sandte nach dir und ließ dir sagen: «Komm her, daß ich dich zum König sende und sagen lasse: Warum bin ich von Geschur gekommen? Es wäre mir besser, daß ich noch daselbst wäre!» So verschaffe nun, daß ich das Angesicht des Königs sehen darf!
And Absalom says to Joab, “Behold, I sent to you, saying, Come here, and I send you to the king to say, Why have I come in from Geshur? [It was] good for me while I [was] there—and now, let me see the king’s face, and if there is iniquity in me then you have put me to death.”
33 Da ging Joab zum König hinein und sagte es ihm. Und er rief Absalom; und er kam zum König und verneigte sich vor dem König mit dem Angesicht zur Erde; und der König küßte Absalom.
And Joab comes to the king, and declares [it] to him, and he calls to Absalom, and he comes to the king, and bows himself to him, on his face, to the earth, before the king, and the king gives a kiss to Absalom.
