2 Samuel 1

1 Nach dem Tode Sauls, als David von der Schlacht der Amalekiter zurückgekommen und zwei Tage lang in Ziklag geblieben war,

And it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, that David abode two days in Ziklag.

2 siehe, da kam am dritten Tage einer aus dem Heere Sauls, mit zerrissenen Kleidern und Erde auf dem Haupt. Und als er zu David kam, warf er sich zur Erde und verbeugte sich.

And it came to pass on the third day, that behold, a man came out of the camp from Saul with his garments rent, and earth upon his head; and as soon as he came to David, he fell to the earth and did obeisance.

3 David aber sprach: Wo kommst du her? Er sprach zu ihm: Ich bin aus dem Heere Israels entronnen.

And David said to him, Whence comest thou? And he said to him, Out of the camp of Israel am I escaped.

4 David sprach zu ihm: Sage mir doch, wie ist es zugegangen? Er sprach: Das Volk ist aus der Schlacht geflohen, auch ist viel Volks gefallen und umgekommen; auch Saul und sein Sohn Jonatan sind tot!

And David said to him, What has taken place? I pray thee, tell me. And he said that the people had fled from the battle, and many of the people also had fallen and died, and that Saul and Jonathan his son were dead also.

5 David sprach zu dem Jüngling, der ihm solches sagte: Woher weißt du, daß Saul und sein Sohn Jonatan tot sind?

And David said to the young man that told him, How knowest thou that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?

6 Der Jüngling, der ihm solches sagte, sprach: Ich kam von ungefähr auf das Gebirge Gilboa und siehe, Saul lehnte sich auf seinen Speer und siehe, Wagen und Reiter jagten hinter ihm her.

And the young man that told him said, I happened by chance to be upon mount Gilboa, and behold, Saul leaned on his spear; and behold, the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him.

7 Und er wandte sich um und sah mich und rief mich.

And he looked behind him, and saw me, and called to me. And I said, Here am I.

8 Und ich sprach: Hier bin ich! Und er sprach zu mir: Wer bist du? Ich sprach zu ihm: Ich bin ein Amalekiter!

And he said to me, Who art thou? And I said to him, I am an Amalekite.

9 Da sprach er zu mir: Tritt doch her zu mir und töte mich; denn Todesangst hat mich ergriffen, während ich noch bei vollem Bewußtsein bin!

He said to me again, Stand, I pray thee, over me, and slay me; for anguish has seized me; for my life is yet whole in me.

10 Da trat ich auf ihn zu und tötete ihn; denn ich wußte wohl, daß er seinen Fall nicht überleben werde. Und ich nahm die Krone von seinem Haupt und die Spangen von seinem Arm und siehe, ich habe sie hergebracht zu dir, meinem Herrn!

So I stood over him, and put him to death, for I knew that he would not live after his fall; and I took the crown that was upon his head, and the bracelet that was on his arm, and have brought them hither to my lord.

11 Da faßte David seine Kleider und zerriß sie, und ebenso alle Männer, die bei ihm waren;

Then David took hold of his garments and rent them; and all the men that were with him [did] likewise.

12 und sie trugen Leid und weinten und fasteten bis zum Abend um Saul und um seinen Sohn Jonatan und um das Volk des Herrn und um das Haus Israel, weil sie durch das Schwert gefallen waren.

And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of Jehovah, and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.

13 Und David sprach zu dem Jüngling, der ihm solches angezeigt hatte: Wo bist du her? Er sprach: Ich bin der Sohn eines Fremdlings, eines Amalekiters.

And David said to the young man that told him, Whence art thou? And he said, I am the son of an Amalekite stranger.

14 David sprach zu ihm: Wie? du hast dich nicht gefürchtet, deine Hand an den Gesalbten des HERRN zu legen, ihn zu verderben?

And David said to him, How wast thou not afraid to stretch forth thy hand to destroy Jehovah's anointed?

15 Und David rief einen seiner Jünglinge und sprach: Tritt her und erschlage ihn! Und er schlug ihn, daß er starb.

Then David called one of the young men and said, Draw near, [and] fall on him. And he smote him that he died.

16 Da sprach David zu ihm: Dein Blut sei auf deinem Haupt! Denn dein Mund hat wider dich selbst gezeugt und gesprochen: Ich habe den Gesalbten des HERRN getötet!

And David said to him, Thy blood be upon thy head; for thy mouth has testified against thee, saying, I have slain Jehovah's anointed.

17 Und David sang dieses Trauerlied über Saul und seinen Sohn Jonatan

And David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son;

18 und befahl, man solle die Kinder Juda [das Lied von] dem Bogen lehren. Siehe, es steht geschrieben im Buche der Rechtschaffenen:

and he bade them teach the children of Judah [the song of] the bow. Behold, it is written in the book of Jasher: —

19 «Die Edelsten in Israel sind auf deinen Höhen erschlagen. Wie sind die Helden gefallen!

The beauty of Israel is slain upon thy high places: how are the mighty fallen!

20 Sagt es nicht an zu Gat, verkündigt es nicht auf den Gassen Askalons, daß sich nicht freuen die Töchter der Philister, daß die Töchter der Unbeschnittenen nicht frohlocken!

Tell [it] not in Gath, carry not the tidings in the streets of Ashkelon; Lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, Lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph.

21 Ihr Berge von Gilboa, es müsse weder Tau noch Regen auf euch fallen, noch mögen da Äcker sein, von denen Hebopfer kommen; denn daselbst ist der Schild der Helden schmählich hingeworfen worden, der Schild Sauls, als wäre er nicht mit Öl gesalbt!

Ye mountains of Gilboa, let there be no dew, no rain upon you, nor fields of heave-offerings! For there the shield of the mighty was vilely cast away, The shield of Saul, [as] not anointed with oil.

22 Vom Blut der Erschlagenen, vom Fett der Helden ist Jonatans Bogen nie zurückgewichen, und das Schwert Sauls ist nie leer wiedergekommen.

From the blood of the slain, from the fat of the mighty, The bow of Jonathan turned not back, And the sword of Saul returned not empty.

23 Saul und Jonatan, lieblich und holdselig in ihrem Leben, sind auch im Tode nicht getrennt; sie waren schneller als Adler, stärker als Löwen!

Saul and Jonathan, beloved and pleasant in their lives, Even in their death were not divided; They were swifter than eagles, they were stronger than lions.

24 Ihr Töchter Israels, weint über Saul, der euch reizend in Purpur kleidete, der eure Gewänder mit goldenen Kleinodien schmückte!

Ye daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, who clothed you in scarlet with splendour, Who put ornaments of gold upon your apparel.

25 Wie sind doch die Helden mitten im Streit gefallen! Jonatan ist auf deinen Höhen erschlagen!

How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! Jonathan is slain upon thy high places.

26 Es ist mir leid um dich, mein Bruder Jonatan; du bist mir sehr lieb gewesen! Deine Liebe war mir viel angenehmer als Frauenliebe!

I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant wast thou unto me; Thy love to me was wonderful, passing women's love.

27 Wie sind die Helden gefallen und verloren die Waffen des Krieges!»

How are the mighty fallen, and the instruments of war perished!
