1 Da sprach Elisa: Höret das Wort des HERRN! So spricht der HERR: Morgen um diese Zeit wird im Tore zu Samaria ein Maß Semmelmehl einen Silberling gelten und zwei Maß Gerste einen Silberling!

Then said Elisha', Hear ye the word of the Lord: Thus hath said the Lord, About this time tomorrow a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, in the gate of Samaria.

2 Da antwortete der Ritter, auf dessen Arm sich der König stützte, dem Manne Gottes und sprach: Siehe, und wenn der HERR Fenster am Himmel machte, wie könnte solches geschehen? Er aber sprach: Siehe, du wirst es mit eigenen Augen sehen, aber nicht davon essen!

Then answered the lord of the king, on whose hand he used to lean, the man of God, and said, Behold, will the Lord make windows in the heavens, that this thing shall be? And he said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thy eyes, but thereof shalt thou not eat.

3 Es waren aber vier aussätzige Männer am Eingang des Tores, und einer sprach zum anderen: Was wollen wir hier bleiben, bis wir sterben? Wenn wir sprächen: Wir wollen in die Stadt gehen, wo doch Hungersnot in der Stadt herrscht, so müßten wir dort sterben; bleiben wir aber hier, so müssen wir auch sterben!

And there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate: and they said one to another, Why do we remain here until we die?

4 So kommt nun, wir wollen zum Heere der Syrer übergehen! Lassen sie uns leben, so leben wir, töten sie uns, so sind wir tot!

If we say, We will enter into the city, then is the famine in the city, and we shall die there; and if we remain here, we die [also]: now therefore come, and let us go over unto the camp of the Syrians; if they will let us live, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall but die.

5 Und sie machten sich in der Dämmerung auf, um in das Lager der Syrer zu gehen. Als sie nun an den Rand des Lagers der Syrer kamen, siehe, da war kein Mensch zugegen!

And they rose up in the twilight, to go unto the camp of the Syrians; and when they were come to the uttermost part of the camp of the Syrians, behold, there was no man there.

6 Denn der HERR hatte das Heer der Syrer ein Getöse von Wagen, auch ein Getümmel von Pferden und ein Geschrei einer großen Heeresmacht hören lassen, so daß sie untereinander sprachen: Siehe, der König von Israel hat die Könige der Hetiter und die Könige der Ägypter wider uns gedungen, daß sie uns überfallen sollen!

For the Lord had caused the camp of the Syrians to hear a noise of chariots, and a noise of horses, the noise of a large army: and they said one to the other, Lo, the king of Israel hath hired against us the kings of the Hittites, and the kings of the Egyptians, to come upon us.

7 Und sie machten sich auf und flohen in der Dämmerung und ließen ihre Zelte und ihre Pferde und ihre Esel, das Lager, wie es stand, und flohen, um ihr Leben zu retten.

And they were arisen and fled in the twilight, and had left their tents, and their horses, and their asses, the camp as it was, and fled for their life.

8 Als nun jene Aussätzigen an den Rand des Lagers kamen, gingen sie in ein Zelt, aßen und tranken und nahmen Silber, Gold und Kleider daraus mit und gingen hin und verbargen es, und gingen in ein anderes Zelt und nahmen daraus, gingen fort und verbargen es.

And so came these lepers to the uttermost part of the camp, and they went into one tent, and ate and drank, and carried away thence silver, and gold, and garments, and went and hid them; and they returned, and entered into another tent, and carried away [something] thence, and went and hid it.

9 Aber einer sprach zum andern: Wir handeln nicht recht. Dieser Tag ist ein Tag guter Botschaft; wenn wir schweigen und warten, bis es heller Morgen wird, so wird uns Strafe treffen. So kommt nun, wir wollen gehen und es dem Hause des Königs melden.

And then they said one to the other, We do not act correctly; this day is a day of good tidings; and if we remain silent, and tarry till the morning-light, we shall incur guilt: now then come, and let us go and tell it at the king's house.

10 Und sie kamen und riefen dem Torhüter der Stadt und verkündigten ihnen und sprachen: Wir sind zum Lager der Syrer gekommen, und siehe, es ist niemand da, und man hört auch keinen Menschen, sondern nur Pferde und Esel; die sind angebunden, und die Zelte, wie sie waren.

So they went and called unto one of the gate-keepers of the city, and they told them, saying, We came to the camp of the Syrians, and, behold, there was no man there, nor the voice of man; but the horses were tied, and the asses were tied, and the tents as they had been.

11 Da riefen es die Torhüter, und man berichtete es drinnen im Hause des Königs.

And he called the gate-keepers; and they told it at the king's house within.

12 Und der König stand in der Nacht auf und sprach zu seinen Knechten: Ich will euch doch sagen, was die Syrer mit uns vorhaben: Sie wissen, daß wir Hunger leiden, und sind aus dem Lager gegangen, um sich im Felde zu verbergen, und denken: Wenn die aus der Stadt gehen, wollen wir sie lebendig fangen und in die Stadt eindringen.

And the king arose in the night, and said unto his servants, I can easily tell you what the Syrians have done to us: they know that we are hungry; and they are therefore gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, If they should come out of the city, we will catch them alive, and enter into the city.

13 Da antwortete einer seiner Knechte und sprach: Man nehme doch fünf von den übriggebliebenen Pferden, die noch da sind (siehe, es geht ihnen doch wie der ganzen Menge Israels, die darin übriggeblieben ist; siehe, es geht ihnen wie der ganzen Menge Israels, welche aufgerieben ist), die lasset uns senden und dann schauen!

And one of his servants answered and said, Let some take, I pray thee, five of the horses that remain, which are left in the city, let it fare with them as with all the multitude of Israel that are left in it, [or] let it fare with them as with all the multitude of Israel that have perished: and let us send out and see.

14 Da nahmen sie zwei Gespanne Pferde, und der König sandte sie dem Heere der Syrer nach und sprach: Gehet hin und sehet nach!

And they took two chariots with horses; and the king sent after the camp of the Syrians, saying, Go and see.

15 Als sie ihnen nun bis an den Jordan nachzogen, siehe, da lagen alle Wege voll Kleider und Waffen, welche die Syrer auf ihrer eiligen Flucht von sich geworfen hatten. Und die Boten kamen wieder und sagten es dem König.

And they went after them as far as the Jordan; and, lo, the whole way was full of garments and vessels, which the Syrians had cast away in their haste: and the messengers returned, and told it to the king.

16 Da ging das Volk hinaus und plünderte das Lager der Syrer, so daß ein Maß Semmelmehl einen Silberling galt und zwei Maß Gerste auch einen Silberling, nach dem Worte des HERRN.

And the people went out, and plundered the camp of the Syrians: and a seah of fine flour was to be had for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the Lord.

17 Und der König bestellte den Ritter, auf dessen Arm er sich stützte, [zur Aufsicht] über das Tor; und das Volk zertrat ihn im Tor, so daß er starb, wie der Mann Gottes gesagt hatte, als der König zu ihm hinabkam.

And the king had appointed the lord on whose hand he used to lean to have the charge of the gate; and the people trod him down in the gate, and he died; as the man of God had spoken, which he spoke when the king came down to him.

18 Denn es geschah, wie der Mann Gottes dem König gesagt hatte, als er sprach: Morgen um diese Zeit werden im Tore zu Samaria zwei Maß Gerste einen Silberling gelten und ein Maß Semmelmehl einen Silberling;

And it came to pass as the man of God was speaking to the king, saying, Two seahs of barley for a shekel, and a seah of fine flour for a shekel, shall be about this time tomorrow in the gate of Samaria:

19 worauf der Ritter dem Manne Gottes geantwortet hatte: Ja, siehe, und wenn der HERR Fenster am Himmel machte, wie könnte solches geschehen? Er aber hatte gesagt: Siehe, du wirst es mit deinen Augen sehen, aber nicht davon essen!

That the Lord had answered the man of God, and said, Now, behold, if even the Lord were to make windows in the heavens, would such a thing be? And he had said, Behold, thou shalt see it with thy eyes, but thereof shalt thou not eat.

20 Also erging es ihm jetzt; denn das Volk zertrat ihn im Tore, so daß er starb.

And it happened unto him so; for the people trod him down in the gate, and he died.
