1 Als aber der HERR den Elia im Wetter gen Himmel holen wollte, ging Elia mit Elisa von Gilgal hinweg.
And it came to pass, when Yahweh was about to take up Elijah in a storm into the heavens, that Elijah departed, with Elisha, from Gilgal.
2 Und Elia sprach zu Elisa: Bleibe doch hier; der HERR hat mich gen Bethel gesandt! Elisa aber sprach: So wahr der HERR lebt, und so wahr deine Seele lebt, ich verlasse dich nicht! Also kamen sie hinab gen Bethel.
Then said Elijah unto Elisha—Tarry here, I pray thee, for, Yahweh, hath sent me as far as Bethel. And Elisha said, By the life of Yahweh and by the life of thine own soul, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.
3 Da gingen die Prophetensöhne, die zu Bethel waren, heraus zu Elisa und sprachen zu ihm: Weißt du auch, daß der HERR deinen Herrn heute über deinem Haupte hinwegnehmen wird? Er aber sprach: Ich weiß es auch; schweigt nur still!
And the sons of the prophets who were in Bethel came forth unto Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that, to-day, Yahweh is taking away thy lord, from thy head? And he said—I also, know, be silent.
4 Und Elia sprach zu ihm: Elisa, bleibe doch hier; denn der HERR hat mich gen Jericho gesandt! Er aber sprach: So wahr der HERR lebt, und so wahr deine Seele lebt, ich verlasse dich nicht! Also kamen sie gen Jericho.
Then Elijah said to him—Elisha, I pray thee, tarry here, for, Yahweh, hath sent me to Jericho. And he said—By the life of Yahweh and by the life of thine own soul, I will not leave thee. So they came to Jericho.
5 Da traten die Prophetensöhne, die zu Jericho waren, zu Elisa und sprachen: Weißt du auch, daß der HERR deinen Herrn heute über deinem Haupte hinwegnehmen wird? Er aber sprach: Ich weiß es auch; schweigt nur still!
Then drew near the sons of the prophets who were in Jericho, unto Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that, to-day, Yahweh is taking away thy lord from thy head? And he said—I also, know; be silent.
6 Und Elia sprach zu ihm: Bleibe doch hier, denn der HERR hat mich an den Jordan gesandt! Er aber sprach: So wahr der HERR lebt, und so wahr deine Seele lebt, ich verlasse dich nicht! Und sie gingen beide miteinander.
And Elijah said to him—Tarry here, I pray thee, for, Yahweh, hath sent me to the Jordan. And he said—By the life of Yahweh and by the life of thine own soul, I will not leave thee. So they two, went on.
7 Und fünfzig Mann von den Prophetensöhnen gingen hin und stellten sich abseits in einiger Entfernung auf, während diese beiden am Jordan standen.
But, fifty men of the sons of the prophets, came, and stood over against them, afar off, —and, they two, stood by the Jordan.
8 Da nahm Elia seinen Mantel und wickelte ihn zusammen und schlug damit das Wasser; das teilte sich nach beiden Seiten, so daß sie beide trocken hindurchgingen.
Then Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided, hither and thither, —so that they two, passed over, on dry ground.
9 Während sie aber hinübergingen, sprach Elia zu Elisa: Erbitte, was ich dir tun soll, ehe ich von dir genommen werde! Elisa sprach: Möchte mir doch ein zweifacher Anteil an deinem Geiste beschert werden!
And it came to pass, as they went over, that, Elijah, said unto Elisha—Ask, what I shall do for thee, ere yet I be taken from thee. And Elisha said, Let there be, I pray thee, a double portion of thy spirit upon me.
10 Er sprach: Du hast eine schwer zu erfüllende Bitte getan: wirst du mich sehen, wenn ich von dir genommen werde, so wird es geschehen, wo aber nicht, so wird es nicht sein!
And he said—Thou hast asked a hard thing, —if thou see me when taken from thee, thou shall have it, so, but, if not, thou shalt not have it.
11 Und während sie noch miteinander gingen und redeten, siehe, da kam ein feuriger Wagen mit feurigen Pferden und trennte beide voneinander. Und Elia fuhr also im Wetter gen Himmel.
And it came to pass, as they were going on and on and talking, that lo! there was a chariot of fire, with horses of fire, which parted, those two, asunder, —and Elijah went up in a storm, into the heavens.
12 Elisa aber sah ihn und schrie: Mein Vater! mein Vater! Wagen Israels und seine Reiter! Und da er ihn nicht mehr sah,
And, as soon as Elisha saw it, he, began crying out—My father! my father! The chariots of Israel, and the horsemen thereof! But, when he could see him no longer, he took hold of his clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
13 faßte er seine Kleider und zerriß sie in zwei Stücke und hob den Mantel auf, der Elia entfallen war, und kehrte um und trat an das Gestade des Jordan.
Then took he up the mantle of Elijah, which had fallen from him, —and returned and stood, on the brink of the Jordan;
14 Darnach nahm er den Mantel, der Elia entfallen war, und schlug damit das Wasser und sprach: Wo ist der HERR, der Gott des Elia? Und als er so das Wasser schlug, teilte es sich nach beiden Seiten, und Elisa ging hindurch.
and took the mantle of Elijah which had fallen from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is Yahweh, the God of Elijah? And, when, he also, smote the waters, they were divided, hither and thither, and Elisha, passed over.
15 Als aber die Prophetensöhne, die bei Jericho ihm gegenüber standen, das sahen, sprachen sie: Der Geist des Elia ruht auf Elisa! Und sie gingen ihm entgegen,
And, when the sons of the prophets who were in Jericho, over against him, saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah, resteth, on Elisha. So they came to meet him, and bowed themselves down to him, to the ground.
16 bückten sich vor ihm zur Erde und sprachen zu ihm: Siehe doch, es sind unter deinen Knechten fünfzig Männer, wackere Leute, laß dieselben gehen und deinen Herrn suchen! Vielleicht hat ihn der Geist des HERRN genommen und auf irgend einen Berg oder in irgend ein Tal geworfen? Er aber sprach: Schicket sie nicht!
Then said they unto him—Lo! we pray thee, there are with thy servants fifty men, sons of valour—let them go, we pray thee, and seek thy lord, lest the Spirit of Yahweh have borne him away, and cast him on one of the mountains, or into one of the valleys. And he said—Ye shall not send.
17 Aber sie drangen in ihn, bis er ganz verlegen ward und sprach: So laßt sie gehen! Da sandten sie fünfzig Männer, die suchten ihn drei Tage lang, aber sie fanden ihn nicht.
But, when they urged him until he was ashamed, he said—Send. So they sent fifty men, and made search three days, but found him not.
18 Und als sie wieder zu ihm zurückkehrten, da er noch zu Jericho war, sprach er zu ihnen: Habe ich euch nicht gesagt, ihr solltet nicht hingehen?
And, when they came back unto him, he, having tarried at Jericho, he said unto them, Did I not say unto you, Do not go?
19 Und die Männer der Stadt sprachen zu Elisa: Siehe doch, in dieser Stadt ist gut wohnen, wie mein Herr sieht; aber das Wasser ist schlecht, und das Land macht kinderlos!
And the men of the city said unto Elisha, Lo! we pray thee, the situation of the city, is good, as, my lord, seeth, —but, the waters, are bad, and, the land, apt to miscarry.
20 Er sprach: Bringt mir eine neue Schale und tut Salz darein! Und sie brachten es ihm.
And he said—Bring me a new bowl, and put therein, salt. So they brought it unto him;
21 Da ging er hinaus zu der Wasserquelle und warf das Salz hinein und sprach: So spricht der HERR: Ich habe dieses Wasser gesund gemacht, es soll fortan weder Tod noch Kinderlosigkeit daher kommen!
and he went forth unto the spring of the waters, and cast therein, saith, —and said—Thus, saith Yahweh, I have healed these waters; there shall come from thence, no longer, death or aptness to miscarry.
22 Also ward das Wasser gesund bis auf diesen Tag nach dem Worte Elisas, das er geredet hatte.
So the waters were healed, [as they remain] unto this day, —according to the word of Elisha which he spake.
23 Und er ging von dannen hinauf nach Bethel. Als er nun den Weg hinaufging, kamen kleine Knaben zur Stadt hinaus; die verspotteten ihn und sprachen zu ihm: Kahlkopf, komm herauf! Kahlkopf, komm herauf!
And he went up from thence, to Bethel, —and, as he was going up on the way, some lads, came forth, out of the city, and made mockery of him, and said to him, Go up, bald head! Go up, bald head!
24 Da wandte er sich um, und da er sie sah, fluchte er ihnen im Namen des HERRN. Da kamen zwei Bären aus dem Walde und zerrissen zweiundvierzig Kinder.
And, when he turned round and saw them, he cursed them, in the name of Yahweh, —and there came forth two she-bears out of the wood, and tare, of them, forty-two youths.
25 Von dort ging er auf den Berg Karmel und kehrte von da wieder nach Samaria zurück.
And he went from thence, unto Mount Carmel, —and, from thence, he returned, to Samaria.
