1 Im siebzehnten Jahre Pekachs, des Sohnes Remaljas, ward Ahas König, der Sohn Jotams, des Königs in Juda.

In the seventeenth year of Pekah son of Remaliah, Ahaz son of Jotham, king of Judah, has reigned.

2 Zwanzig Jahre alt war Ahas, als er König ward, und regierte sechzehn Jahre lang zu Jerusalem und tat nicht, was dem HERRN, seinem Gott, wohlgefiel, wie sein Vater David.

Ahaz [is] a son of twenty years in his reigning, and he has reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem, and he has not done that which [is] right in the eyes of his God YHWH, like his father David,

3 Denn er wandelte auf dem Wege der Könige von Israel; dazu ließ er seinen Sohn durchs Feuer gehen nach den Greueln der Heiden, die der HERR vor den Kindern Israel vertrieben hatte.

and he walks in the way of the kings of Israel, and he has also caused his son to pass over into fire, according to the abominations of the nations that YHWH dispossessed from the presence of the sons of Israel,

4 Und er opferte und räucherte auf den Höhen und auf den Hügeln und unter allen grünen Bäumen.

and he sacrifices and makes incense in high places, and on the heights, and under every green tree.

5 Da zogen Rezin, der König von Syrien, und Pekach, der Sohn Remaljas, der König von Israel, zum Kampfe herauf wider Jerusalem und belagerten Ahas, konnten [die Stadt] aber nicht erstürmen.

Then Rezin king of Aram, and Pekah son of Remaliah, king of Israel, go up to Jerusalem, to battle, and they lay siege to Ahaz, and they have not been able to fight.

6 Zu jener Zeit brachte Rezin, der König von Syrien, Elat wieder an Edom; denn er vertrieb die Juden aus Elat; und Syrer kamen gen Elat und wohnten darin bis auf diesen Tag.

At that time Rezin king of Aram has brought back Elath to Aram, and casts out the Jews from Elath, and the Arameans have come to Elath, and dwell there to this day.

7 Ahas aber sandte Boten zu Tiglat-Pileser, dem König von Assyrien, und ließ ihm sagen: Ich bin dein Knecht und dein Sohn; komm herauf und errette mich aus der Hand des Königs von Syrien und aus der Hand des Königs von Israel, die sich wider mich aufgemacht haben!

And Ahaz sends messengers to Tiglath-Pileser king of Asshur, saying, “I [am] your servant and your son; come up and save me out of the hand of the king of Aram, and out of the hand of the king of Israel, who are rising up against me.”

8 Und Ahas nahm das Silber und das Gold, das sich im Hause des HERRN und in den Schätzen des königlichen Hauses vorfand, und sandte es dem König von Assyrien zum Geschenk.

And Ahaz takes the silver and the gold that is found in the house of YHWH, and in the treasures of the house of the king, and sends to the king of Asshur [as] a bribe.

9 Und der König von Assyrien willfahrte ihm. Und der König von Assyrien zog herauf gen Damaskus und nahm es ein und führte die Leute gefangen nach Kir und tötete Rezin.

And the king of Asshur listens to him, and the king of Asshur goes up to Damascus, and seizes it, and removes [the people of] it to Kir, and he has put Rezin to death.

10 Da zog der König Ahas Tiglat-Pileser, dem König von Assyrien, entgegen nach Damaskus. Und als er den Altar sah, der zu Damaskus war, sandte der König Ahas das Modell des Altars und eine genaue Abbildung, wie er gemacht war, dem Priester Urija.

And King Ahaz goes to meet Tiglath-Pileser king of Asshur [at] Damascus, and sees the altar that [is] in Damascus, and King Ahaz sends to Urijah the priest the likeness of the altar, and its pattern, according to all its work,

11 Und der Priester Urija baute den Altar genau so, wie der König Ahas von Damaskus aus befohlen hatte; so verfertigte ihn der Priester Urija, ehe der König Ahas von Damaskus kam.

and Urijah the priest builds the altar according to all that King Ahaz has sent from Damascus; so Urijah the priest did until the coming in of King Ahaz from Damascus.

12 Und als der König von Damaskus kam und den Altar sah, trat er zum Altar und opferte darauf

And the king comes in from Damascus, and the king sees the altar, and the king draws near on the altar, and offers on it,

13 und zündete darauf sein Brandopfer und sein Speisopfer an und goß sein Trankopfer darauf und ließ das Blut der Dankopfer, die er darbrachte, auf den Altar sprengen.

and burns his burnt-offering and his present as incense, and pours out his drink-offering, and sprinkles the blood of the peace-offerings that he has, on the altar.

14 Aber den ehernen Altar, der vor dem HERRN stand, rückte er von der Vorderseite des Hauses weg aus dem Zwischenraum zwischen dem [neuen] Altar und dem Hause des HERRN und stellte ihn nördlich vom Altar auf.

As for the altar of bronze that [is] before YHWH—he brings [it] near from the front of the house, from between the altar and the house of YHWH, and puts it on the side of the altar, northward.

15 Und der König Ahas gebot dem Priester Urija und sprach: Auf dem großen Altar sollst du das Brandopfer anzünden am Morgen und das Speisopfer am Abend und das Brandopfer des Königs und sein Speisopfer, auch das Brandopfer aller Leute im Lande samt ihrem Speisopfer und ihren Trankopfern; und alles Blut des Brandopfers und alles andere Opferblut sollst du daraufsprengen; wegen des ehernen Altars aber will ich mich noch bedenken.

And King Ahaz commands him—Urijah the priest—saying, “On the great altar burn as incense the burnt-offering of the morning, and the present of the evening, and the burnt-offering of the king, and his present, and the burnt-offering of all the people of the land, and their present, and their drink-offerings; and all the blood of the burnt-offering, and all the blood of the sacrifice, you sprinkle on it, and the altar of bronze is for me to inquire [by].”

16 Und der Priester Urija machte alles genau, wie ihm der König Ahas befahl.

And Urijah the priest does according to all that King Ahaz commanded.

17 Der König Ahas ließ auch die Seitenfelder an den Ständern herausbrechen und den Kessel oben hinwegtun; und das Meer nahm er von den ehernen Rindern, die darunter waren, herab und setzte es auf ein steinernes Pflaster.

And King Ahaz cuts off the borders of the bases, and turns aside the laver from off them, and he has taken down the sea from off the bronze oxen that [are] under it, and puts it on a pavement of stones.

18 Auch die Sabbathalle, die man am Hause gebaut hatte, und den äußern Eingang des Königs verlegte er am Hause des HERRN wegen des Königs von Assyrien.

And the covered place for the Sabbath that they built in the house, and the entrance of the king outside, he turned [from] the house of YHWH, because of the king of Asshur.

19 Was aber mehr von Ahas zu sagen ist, was er getan hat, ist das nicht geschrieben in der Chronik der Könige von Juda?

And the rest of the matters of Ahaz that he did, are they not written on the scroll of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?

20 Und Ahas legte sich zu seinen Vätern und ward begraben bei seinen Vätern in der Stadt Davids. Und Hiskia, sein Sohn, ward König an seiner Statt.

And Ahaz lies with his fathers, and is buried with his fathers in the City of David, and his son Hezekiah reigns in his stead.
