2 Chronik 21

1 Und Josaphat legte sich zu seinen Vätern und ward begraben bei seinen Vätern in der Stadt Davids, und Jehoram, sein Sohn, ward König an seiner Statt.

And Josaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David: and Joran his son reigned in his stead.

2 Und er hatte Brüder, Söhne Josaphats, nämlich Asarja, Jechiel und Sacharjahu, Asarjahu, Michael und Sephatjahu. Diese alle waren Söhne Josaphats, des Königs von Juda.

And he had brothers, the six sons of Josaphat, Azarias, and Jeiel, and Zacharias, and Azarias, and Michael, and Zaphatias: all these [were] the sons of Josaphat king of Juda.

3 Und ihr Vater machte ihnen reiche Geschenke von Silber, Gold und Kleinodien und gab ihnen feste Städte in Juda. Aber das Königreich gab er Jehoram, denn er war der Erstgeborene.

And their father gave them many gifts, silver, and gold, and arms, together with fortified cities in Juda: but he gave the kingdom to Joram, for he [was] the firstborn.

4 Als aber Jehoram das Königreich seines Vaters übernommen hatte und mächtig geworden war, tötete er alle seine Brüder mit dem Schwert; dazu auch etliche von den Fürsten Israels.

And Joram entered upon his kingdom, and strengthened himself, and killed all his brothers with the sword, and [some] of the princes of Israel.

5 Zweiunddreißig Jahre alt war Jehoram, als er König ward, und regierte acht Jahre lang zu Jerusalem;

When he was thirty and two years old, Joram succeeded to his kingdom, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem.

6 und er wandelte in dem Wege der Könige von Israel, wie das Haus Ahabs getan hatte; denn er hatte die Tochter Ahabs zur Frau. Und er tat, was böse war in den Augen des HERRN.

And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, as did the house of Achaab; for a daughter of Achaab was his wife: and he did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord:

7 Aber der HERR wollte das Haus Davids nicht verderben, um des Bundes willen, welchen er mit David gemacht, und weil er ihm verheißen hatte, daß er ihm und seinen Kindern eine Leuchte geben werde immerdar.

nevertheless the Lord would not utterly destroy the house of David, because of the covenant which he made with David, and as he said to him that he would give a light to him and his sons for ever.

8 Zu seiner Zeit fielen die Edomiter von Juda ab und setzten einen König über sich.

In those days Edom revolted from Juda, and they made a king over themselves.

9 Da zog Jehoram hinüber mit seinen Obersten und allen Wagen; und er machte sich auf bei Nacht und schlug die Edomiter, die ihn und die Obersten der Wagen umzingelten.

And Joram went with the princes, and all the cavalry with him: and it came to pass that he arose by night, and struck Edom that compassed him about, and the captains of the chariots, and the people fled to their tents.

10 Aber die Edomiter fielen von Juda ab bis auf diesen Tag. Zu jener Zeit fiel auch Libna von ihm ab; denn er verließ den HERRN, den Gott seiner Väter.

And Edom revolted from Juda until this day. Then Lomna at that time revolted from [under] his hand, because he forsook the Lord God of his fathers.

11 Auch machte er Höhen auf den Bergen Judas und verführte die Bewohner Jerusalems zur Abgötterei und brachte Juda auf Abwege.

For he built high places in the cities of Juda, and caused the dwellers in Jerusalem to go a-whoring, and led Juda astray.

12 Es kam aber ein Schreiben zu ihm von dem Propheten Elia; das lautete also: So spricht der HERR, der Gott deines Vaters David: Weil du nicht gewandelt bist in den Wegen deines Vaters Josaphat, noch in den Wegen Asas, des Königs von Juda,

And there came to him [a message] in writing from Eliu the prophet, saying, Thus says the Lord God of your father David, Because you have not walked in the way of your father Josaphat, nor in the ways of Asa king of Juda,

13 sondern in dem Wege der Könige von Israel, und verführst Juda und die Bewohner Jerusalems zu Abgötterei, gleichwie das Haus Ahabs Abgötterei einführte, und hast dazu deine Brüder aus deines Vaters Haus erwürgt, die besser waren als du;

but have walked in the ways of the kings of Israel, and have caused Juda and the dwellers in Jerusalem to go a-whoring, as the house of Achaab caused [Israel] to go a-whoring, and you have slain your brethren, the sons of your father, who were better than yourself;

14 siehe, darum wird der HERR eine schwere Plage über dein Volk verhängen, auch über deine Kinder, deine Frauen und alle deine Habe.

behold, the Lord shall strike you with a great plague among your people, and your sons, and your wives, and all your store:

15 Du aber wirst viel zu leiden haben an einer Krankheit in deinen Eingeweiden, bis deine Eingeweide infolge dieser Krankheit nach und nach heraustreten werden.

and you [shall be afflicted] with a grievous disease, with a disease of the bowels, until your bowels shall fall out day by day with the sickness.

16 Also erweckte der HERR wider Jehoram den Geist der Philister und Araber, welche zur Seite der Mohren wohnen;

So the Lord stirred up the Philistines against Joram, and the Arabians, and those who bordered on the Aethiopians:

17 die zogen herauf gegen Juda und brachen ein und führten alle Habe hinweg, die im Hause des Königs vorhanden war; dazu seine Söhne und seine Frauen, so daß ihm kein Sohn übrigblieb, außer Joahas, sein jüngster Sohn.

and they went up against Juda, and prevailed against them, and took away all the store which they found in the house of the king, and his sons, and his daughters; and there was no son left to him but Ochozias the youngest of his sons.

18 Und nach alledem schlug ihn der HERR in seinen Eingeweiden mit einer unheilbaren Krankheit.

And after all these things the Lord struck him in the bowels with an incurable disease.

19 Und solches währte zwei Jahre. Als aber nach zwei Jahren seine Eingeweide austraten infolge seiner Krankheit, starb er unter argen Schmerzen. Und sein Volk machte ihm zu Ehren kein Feuer, wie man seinen Vätern getan hatte.

And it continued from day to day: and when the time of the days came [to] two years, his bowels fell out with the disease, and he died by a grievous distemper: and his people performed no funeral, like the funeral of his fathers.

20 Mit zweiunddreißig Jahren war er König geworden, und er regierte acht Jahre lang zu Jerusalem und ging unbeliebt dahin, und man begrub ihn in der Stadt Davids, aber nicht in den Gräbern der Könige.

He was thirty and two years old when he began to reign, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. And he departed without honor, and was buried in the city of David, but not in the tombs of the kings.
