2 Chronik 14

1 Und Abija legte sich zu seinen Vätern, und sie begruben ihn in der Stadt Davids; und Asa, sein Sohn, ward König an seiner Statt. Zu dessen Zeiten war das Land stille, zehn Jahre lang.

And Abijah lies with his fathers, and they bury him in the City of David, and his son Asa reigns in his stead. In his days the land was quiet [for] ten years.

2 Und Asa tat, was gut und recht war vor dem HERRN, seinem Gott.

And Asa does that which is good and that which is right in the eyes of his God YHWH,

3 Denn er entfernte die fremden Altäre und die Höhen und zerbrach die Säulen und hieb die Ascheren um;

and turns aside the altars of the stranger, and the high places, and breaks the standing-pillars, and cuts down the Asherim,

4 und gebot Juda, den HERRN, den Gott ihrer Väter, zu suchen und zu tun nach dem Gesetz und Gebot.

and commands to Judah to seek YHWH, God of their fathers, and to do the Law and the command;

5 Er entfernte auch aus allen Städten Judas die Höhen und die Sonnensäulen. Und das Königreich hatte Ruhe unter ihm.

and he turns aside the high places and the images out of all cities of Judah, and the kingdom is quiet before him.

6 Und er baute feste Städte in Juda, weil in jenen Jahren das Land Ruhe hatte und kein Krieg wider ihn geführt wurde; denn der HERR gab ihm Ruhe.

And he builds cities of bulwarks in Judah, for the land has quiet; and there is no war with him in these years, because YHWH has given rest to him.

7 Und er sprach zu Juda: Lasset uns diese Städte bauen und sie mit Mauern umgeben und mit Türmen, Toren und Riegeln, weil das Land noch vor uns liegt! Denn wir haben den HERRN, unsern Gott, gesucht; wir haben ihn gesucht, und er hat uns Ruhe gegeben ringsumher. Also bauten sie, und es gelang ihnen.

And he says to Judah, “Let us build these cities, and surround [them] with wall, and towers, double gates, and bars, while the land [is] before us, because we have sought our God YHWH, we have sought, and He gives rest to us all around”; and they build and prosper.

8 Und Asa hatte ein Heer, das Schild und Speer trug, aus Juda 300000 und aus Benjamin 280000, welche die Tartsche trugen und mit Bogen schossen. Diese waren alle starke Helden.

And Asa has a force of three hundred thousand from Judah carrying buckler and spear, and two hundred and eighty thousand from Benjamin carrying shield and treading bow; all these [are] mighty men of valor.

9 Aber Serach, der Mohr, zog aus wider sie mit einem Heer von tausendmal tausend, dazu dreihundert Wagen, und er kam bis Marescha.

And Zerah the Cushite comes out to them with a force of one million [men] and three hundred chariots, and he comes to Mareshah,

10 Und Asa zog aus, ihm entgegen. Und sie rüsteten sich zum Kampf im Tal Zephata bei Marescha.

and Asa goes out before him, and they set in array [for] battle in the Valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.

11 Und Asa rief den HERRN, seinen Gott, an und sprach: HERR, bei dir ist kein Unterschied, zu helfen, wo viel oder wo keine Kraft ist. Hilf uns, HERR, unser Gott, denn wir verlassen uns auf dich; und in deinem Namen sind wir gekommen wider diesen Haufen! Du, HERR, bist unser Gott! Vor dir behält der Sterbliche keine Kraft!

And Asa calls to his God YHWH and says, “YHWH, it is nothing for You to help, between the mighty and those who have no power; help us, O YHWH, our God, for we have leaned on You, and in Your Name we have come against this multitude; O YHWH, You [are] our God; do not let mortal man prevail against You!”

12 Da schlug der HERR die Mohren vor Asa und vor Juda, daß die Mohren flohen.

And YHWH strikes the Cushim before Asa and before Judah, and the Cushim flee,

13 Und Asa samt dem Volk, das bei ihm war, jagte ihnen nach bis gen Gerar. Und von den Mohren fielen so viele, daß sie sich nicht erholen konnten, sondern sie wurden geschlagen vor dem HERRN und vor seiner Heerschar; und sie trugen sehr viel Raub davon.

and Asa and the people who [are] with him pursue them even to Gerar, and there falls [many] from the Cushim, for they have no preserving, because they have been broken before YHWH and before His camp; and [those of Judah] carry away very much spoil,

14 Und sie schlugen alle Städte um Gerar her; denn die Furcht des HERRN kam über sie. Und sie plünderten alle Städte; denn es war viel Beute darin.

and strike all the cities around Gerar, for a fear of YHWH has been on them, and they spoil all the cities, for abundant spoil has been in them;

15 Auch die Hirtenzelte schlugen sie und führten viele Schafe und Kamele hinweg und kehrten wieder nach Jerusalem zurück.

and they have also struck tents of livestock, and they capture sheep in abundance, and camels, and return to Jerusalem.
