1 Timotheus 3
1 Glaubwürdig ist das Wort: Wer nach einem Aufseheramt trachtet, der begehrt eine schöne Wirksamkeit.
Trustworthy [is] the saying: If anyone overseership aspires to, of good a work he is desirous.
2 Nun soll aber ein Aufseher untadelig sein, eines Weibes Mann, nüchtern, besonnen, ehrbar, gastfrei, lehrtüchtig;
It behooves therefore the overseer above reproach to be, of one wife [the] husband, sober, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,
3 kein Trinker, kein Raufbold, sondern gelinde, nicht händelsüchtig, nicht habsüchtig;
not given to wine, not a striker (not greedy of base gain *K*) but gentle, peaceable, not loving money,
4 einer, der seinem eigenen Hause wohl vorsteht und die Kinder mit aller Würde in Schranken hält
[his] own house well managing, children having in submission with all dignity.
5 wenn aber jemand seinem eigenen Hause nicht vorzustehen weiß, wie wird er für die Gemeinde Gottes sorgen?
if but one his [own] household to manage not knows, how [the] church of God will he care for?
6 kein Neuling, damit er nicht aufgeblasen werde und dem Gericht des Teufels verfalle.
not a novice, that not having been puffed up into [the] judgment he may fall of the devil.
7 Er muß aber auch ein gutes Zeugnis haben von denen außerhalb [der Gemeinde], damit er nicht der Lästerung und der Schlinge des Teufels verfalle.
It behooves now (him *k*) also a testimony good to have from those outside, so that not into reproach he may fall and [the] snare of the devil.
8 Gleicherweise sollen auch die Diakonen ehrbar sein, nicht doppelzüngig, nicht vielem Weingenuß ergeben, nicht gewinnsüchtig;
Deacons likewise [must be] dignified, not double-tongued, not to wine much being given, not greedy of dishonest gain,
9 sie sollen das Geheimnis des Glaubens in reinem Gewissen bewahren.
holding to the mystery of the faith with clear a conscience.
10 Und diese soll man zuerst prüfen; dann mögen sie dienen, wenn sie untadelig sind.
Also these now they should be tested first, then they should serve blameless being.
11 Ihre Frauen sollen ebenfalls ehrbar sein, nicht verleumderisch, sondern nüchtern, treu in allem.
Women likewise [must be] dignified, not slanderers, (clear-minded, *N(k)O*) faithful in all things.
12 Die Diakonen sollen jeder nur eine Frau haben, ihren Kindern und ihrem Hause wohl vorstehen;
Deacons should be of one wife husbands, [their] children well managing and [their] own households.
13 denn wenn sie ihren Dienst wohl versehen, erwerben sie sich selbst eine schöne Stufe und viel Freimütigkeit im Glauben in Christus Jesus.
Those for well having served a standing for themselves good acquire and great confidence in [the] faith that [is] in Christ Jesus.
14 Solches schreibe ich dir in der Hoffnung, bald zu dir zu kommen,
These things to you I am writing hoping to come to you (with *no*) (speed; *N(k)O*)
15 falls ich aber verzöge, damit du wissest, wie man wandeln soll im Hause Gottes, welches die Gemeinde des lebendigen Gottes ist, Pfeiler und Grundfeste der Wahrheit.
if however I shall delay, so that you may know how it behooves [one] in [the] household of God to conduct oneself, which is [the] church of God [the] living, [the] pillar and base of the truth.
16 Und anerkannt groß ist das Geheimnis der Gottseligkeit: Gott ist geoffenbart im Fleisch, gerechtfertigt im Geist, erschienen den Engeln, gepredigt unter den Heiden, geglaubt in der Welt, aufgenommen in Herrlichkeit.
And confessedly great is the of godliness mystery: (Who *N(K)O*) was revealed in [the] flesh, was justified in [the] Spirit, beheld by angels, was proclaimed among [the] nations, was believed on in [the] world, was taken up in glory.
