1 Timotheus 1

1 Paulus, Apostel Jesu Christi auf Befehl Gottes, unsres Retters, und Christi Jesu, unsrer Hoffnung,

Paul, apostle of Jesus Christ, according to [the] command of God our Saviour, and of Christ Jesus our hope,

2 an Timotheus, seinen echten Sohn im Glauben: Gnade, Barmherzigkeit, Friede von Gott, unsrem Vater und Christus Jesus, unsrem Herrn!

to Timotheus, [my] true child in faith: grace, mercy, peace, from God our Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

3 Wie ich dich bei meiner Abreise nach Mazedonien ermahnte, in Ephesus zu bleiben, damit du etlichen Leuten gebietest, nichts anderes zu lehren,

Even as I begged thee to remain in Ephesus, [when I was] going to Macedonia, that thou mightest enjoin some not to teach other doctrines,

4 auch nicht auf Legenden und endlose Geschlechtsregister zu achten, welche mehr Streitfragen hervorbringen als göttliche Erbauung im Glauben;

nor to turn their minds to fables and interminable genealogies, which bring questionings rather than [further] God's dispensation, which [is] in faith.

5 und doch ist der Endzweck des Gebotes Liebe aus reinem Herzen und gutem Gewissen und ungeheucheltem Glauben.

But the end of what is enjoined is love out of a pure heart and a good conscience and unfeigned faith;

6 Dieses [Ziel] haben etliche verfehlt und sich unnützem Geschwätz zugewandt,

which [things] some having missed, have turned aside to vain discourse,

7 wollen Gesetzeslehrer sein und bedenken nicht, was sie sagen oder was sie behaupten.

desiring to be law-teachers, not understanding either what they say or concerning what they [so] strenuously affirm.

8 Wir wissen aber, daß das Gesetz gut ist, wenn man es gesetzmäßig braucht und berücksichtigt,

Now we know that the law [is] good if any one uses it lawfully,

9 daß einem Gerechten kein Gesetz auferlegt ist, sondern Gesetzlosen und Unbotmäßigen, Gottlosen und Sündern, Unheiligen und Gemeinen, solchen, die Vater und Mutter mißhandeln, Menschen töten,

knowing this, that law has not its application to a righteous person, but to [the] lawless and insubordinate, to [the] impious and sinful, to [the] unholy and profane, to smiters of fathers and smiters of mothers; to murderers,

10 Unzüchtigen, Knabenschändern, Menschenräubern, Lügnern, Meineidigen und was sonst der gesunden Lehre zuwider ist,

fornicators, sodomites, kidnappers, liars, perjurers; and if any other thing is opposed to sound teaching,

11 nach dem Evangelium der Herrlichkeit des seligen Gottes, mit welchem ich betraut worden bin.

according to the glad tidings of the glory of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.

12 Und darum danke ich dem, der mir Kraft verliehen hat, Christus Jesus, unsrem Herrn, daß er mich treu erachtet und in den Dienst eingesetzt hat,

[And] I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me power, that he has counted me faithful, appointing to ministry him

13 der ich zuvor ein Lästerer und Verfolger und Frevler war. Aber mir ist Erbarmung widerfahren, weil ich es unwissend, im Unglauben getan habe.

who before was a blasphemer and persecutor, and an insolent overbearing [man]: but mercy was shewn me because I did it ignorantly, in unbelief.

14 Über alle Maßen groß aber wurde die Gnade unsres Herrn samt dem Glauben und der Liebe, die in Christus Jesus ist.

But the grace of our Lord surpassingly over-abounded with faith and love, which [is] in Christ Jesus.

15 Glaubwürdig ist das Wort und aller Annahme wert, daß Christus Jesus in die Welt gekommen ist, um Sünder zu retten, von denen ich der Erste bin.

Faithful [is] the word, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am [the] first.

16 Aber darum ist mir Erbarmung widerfahren, damit an mir zuerst Jesus Christus alle Geduld erzeige, zum Beispiel denen, die an ihn glauben würden zum ewigen Leben. (aiōnios g166)

But for this reason mercy was shewn me, that in me, [the] first, Jesus Christ might display the whole long-suffering, for a delineation of those about to believe on him to life eternal. (aiōnios g166)

17 Dem König der Ewigkeit aber, dem unvergänglichen, unsichtbaren, allein weisen Gott, sei Ehre und Ruhm von Ewigkeit zu Ewigkeit! Amen. (aiōn g165)

Now to the King of the ages, [the] incorruptible, invisible, only God, honour and glory to the ages of ages. Amen. (aiōn g165)

18 Dieses Gebot vertraue ich dir an, mein Sohn Timotheus, gemäß den früher über dich ergangenen Weissagungen, damit du in denselben den guten Kampf kämpfest, den Glauben und ein gutes Gewissen bewahrest.

This charge, [my] child Timotheus, I commit to thee, according to the prophecies as to thee preceding, in order that thou mightest war by them the good warfare,

19 Dieses haben etliche von sich gestoßen und darum am Glauben Schiffbruch gelitten.

maintaining faith and a good conscience; which [last] some, having put away, have made shipwreck as to faith;

20 Unter ihnen sind Hymenäus und Alexander, welche ich dem Satan übergeben habe, damit sie gezüchtigt werden, nicht mehr zu lästern.

of whom is Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have delivered to Satan, that they may be taught by discipline not to blaspheme.
