1 Samuel 1

1 Es war ein Mann von Ramataim-Zophim, vom Gebirge Ephraim, der hieß Elkana, ein Sohn Jerochams, des Sohnes Elihus, des Sohnes Tohus, des Sohnes Zuphs, eines Ephraimiten.

And there was a certain man of Rama-thayim-zophim, of the mountain of Ephraim, whose name was Elkanah, the son of Yerocham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tochu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite.

2 Der hatte zwei Frauen, die eine hieß Hanna, die andere Peninna; Peninna aber hatte Kinder, und Hanna hatte keine Kinder.

And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

3 Dieser Mann ging jährlich hinauf aus seiner Stadt, um den HERRN der Heerscharen anzubeten und ihm zu opfern zu Silo. Daselbst aber waren Hophni und Pinehas, die beiden Söhne Elis, Priester des HERRN.

And this man went up out of his city from year to year to prostrate himself and to sacrifice unto the Lord of hosts in Shiloh. And at that place were the two sons of 'Eli, Chophni and Phinehas, priests of the Lord.

4 An dem Tage nun, da Elkana opferte, gab er seinem Weibe Peninna und allen ihren Söhnen und Töchtern Teile [vom Opfermahl].

And when the day was come that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions;

5 Hanna aber gab er ein doppeltes Teil, denn er hatte Hanna lieb; aber der HERR hatte ihren Mutterleib verschlossen.

But unto Hannah he gave a double portion; for Hannah he loved [greatly]; but the Lord had shut up her womb.

6 Und ihre Nebenbuhlerin reizte sie sehr mit kränkenden Reden, um sie darüber zu erzürnen, daß der HERR ihren Leib verschlossen hatte.

And her rival also provoked her continually, in order to make her fret; because the Lord had shut up her womb.

7 Und so ging es Jahr für Jahr; so oft sie zu des HERRN Hause wallte, kränkte jene sie also, daß sie weinte und nichts aß.

And he did so year by year, as often as she went up to the house of the Lord, so did she provoke her; wherefore she wept, and did not eat.

8 Elkana aber, ihr Mann, sprach zu ihr: Hanna, warum weinst du? Und warum issest du nicht? Warum ist dein Herz so traurig? Bin ich dir nicht besser als zehn Söhne?

Then said to her Elkanah her husband, Hannah, why wilt thou weep? and why wilt thou not eat? and why should thy heart be grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?

9 Eines Tages aber stand Hanna auf, nachdem sie zu Silo gegessen und getrunken hatte. Eli, der Priester, saß eben auf seinem Stuhl beim Türpfosten des Tempels des HERRN.

And Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk; and 'Eli the priest was sitting upon a chair by the door-post of the temple of the Lord.

10 Sie aber, betrübt, wie sie war, betete zum HERRN und weinte sehr.

But she had bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept greatly.

11 Und sie tat ein Gelübde und sprach: HERR der Heerscharen, wirst du das Elend deiner Magd ansehen und an mich gedenken und deiner Magd nicht vergessen, und wirst du deiner Magd einen Sohn geben, so will ich ihn dem Herrn geben sein Leben lang, und kein Schermesser soll auf sein Haupt kommen!

And she vowed a vow, and said, O Lord of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thy handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thy handmaid, but wilt give unto thy handmaid a man-child: then will I give him unto the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall come upon his head.

12 Während sie nun lange vor dem HERRN betete, beobachtete Eli ihren Mund;

And it came to pass, as she continued praying long before the Lord, that 'Eli watched her mouth.

13 und Hanna redete in ihrem Herzen, nur ihre Lippen regten sich, doch so, daß man ihre Stimme nicht hörte. Da meinte Eli, sie wäre betrunken.

Now as for Hannah, she spoke in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice could not be heard; wherefore 'Eli regarded her as a drunken woman.

14 Und er sprach zu ihr: Wie lange willst du trunken sein? Gib deinen Wein von dir!

And 'Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from off thee.

15 Hanna aber antwortete und sprach: Nein, mein Herr, ich bin ein Weib beschwerten Geistes; Wein und starkes Getränk habe ich nicht getrunken, sondern ich habe mein Herz vor dem HERRN ausgeschüttet.

And Hannah answered and said, No, my Lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit; but neither wine nor strong drink have I drunk, and I have poured out my soul before the Lord.

16 Du wollest deine Magd nicht für eine Tochter Belials halten, denn aus großem Kummer und Herzeleid habe ich bisher geredet!

Esteem not thy handmaid as a worthless woman; for out of the abundance of my grief and vexation have I spoken hitherto.

17 Eli antwortete ihr und sprach: Gehe hin in Frieden! Der Gott Israels gewähre dir deine Bitte, die du vor ihm ausgesprochen hast!

Then 'Eli answered and said, Go in peace; and may the God of Israel grant thy petition which thou hast asked of him.

18 Sie sprach: Laß deine Magd Gnade finden vor deinen Augen! Also ging das Weib ihren Weg und aß und sah nicht mehr traurig aus.

And she said, Let thy handmaid find grace in thy eyes. The woman then went on her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no longer as before.

19 Und am Morgen früh machten sie sich auf, und als sie vor dem HERRN angebetet hatten, kehrten sie wieder um und kamen heim nach Rama. Und Elkana erkannte sein Weib Hanna, und der HERR gedachte an sie.

And they rose up early in the morning, and prostrated themselves before the Lord, and returned, and came to their house at Ramah; and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the Lord remembered her.

20 Und so geschah es, als das Jahr um war, nachdem Hanna empfangen hatte, gebar sie einen Sohn; den hieß sie Samuel, denn [sagte sie, ] ich habe ihn von dem Herrn erbeten.

And it came to pass, after the lapse of some time, that Hannah conceived, and bore a son; and she called his name Samuel, saying, Because from the Lord have I asked him.

21 Und als der Mann Elkana mit seinem ganzen Hause hinaufzog, um dem HERRN das jährliche Opfer und sein Gelübde darzubringen,

And the man Elkanah went up, with all his house, to offer unto the Lord the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.

22 ging Hanna nicht mit, sondern sprach zu ihrem Mann: Wenn der Knabe entwöhnt sein wird, alsdann will ich ihn bringen, daß er vor dem HERRN erscheine und daselbst bleibe für immer!

But Hannah did not go up; for she said unto her husband, So soon as the child shall be weaned, then I will bring him, that he may appear before the Lord, and abide there for ever.

23 Elkana, ihr Mann, sprach zu ihr: Mach wie du's für gut findest; bleibe, bis du ihn entwöhnt hast; der HERR aber bestätige, was er geredet hat! So blieb die Frau zurück und nährte ihren Sohn, bis sie ihn entwöhnte.

And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth good in thy eyes; tarry until thou hast weaned him; only may the Lord fulfill his word. So the woman remained behind, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.

24 Und sobald sie ihn entwöhnt hatte, nahm sie ihn mit hinauf, samt drei Farren, einem Epha Mehl und einem Schlauch Wein und brachte ihn in das Haus des HERRN nach Silo; aber der Knabe war noch sehr jung.

And she took him up with her, when she had weaned him, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and she brought him unto the house of the Lord at Shiloh; although the child was yet young.

25 Und sie schlachteten den Farren und brachten den Knaben zu Eli.

And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to 'Eli.

26 Und sie sprach: Ach, mein Herr, so wahr deine Seele lebt; mein Herr, ich bin das Weib, das hier bei dir stand und den HERRN bat.

And she said, Pardon, my Lord, as thy soul liveth, my Lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, to pray unto the Lord.

27 Ich habe um diesen Knaben gebeten, nun hat mir der HERR die Bitte gewährt, die ich an ihn gerichtet hatte.

For this lad did I pray; and the Lord hath granted me my petition which I asked of him;

28 Darum leihe ich ihn auch dem HERRN; alle Tage seines Lebens sei er dem HERRN geliehen! Und er betete daselbst den HERRN an.

Therefore also have I lent him, for my part, to the Lord; all the days that have been assigned to him shall he be lent to the Lord. And he bowed himself there before the Lord.
