1 Samuel 31
1 Die Philister aber stritten wider Israel, und die Männer von Israel flohen vor den Philistern und fielen erschlagen auf dem Gebirge Gilboa.
Now, as, the Philistines, were fighting against Israel, the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell slain, in Mount Gilboa.
2 Und die Philister drangen ein auf Saul und seine Söhne und erschlugen Jonatan und Abinadab und Malchischua, die Söhne Sauls.
And the Philistines followed hard after Saul, and after his sons, —and the Philistines smote Jonathan and Abinadab and Malchishua, sons of Saul.
3 Und der Streit ward hart wider Saul; und es trafen ihn die Schützen, die mit Bogen bewaffnet waren, und er ward von den Schützen schwer verwundet.
And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers discovered him, —and he was terrified at the archers.
4 Da sprach Saul zu seinem Waffenträger: Zieh dein Schwert aus und erstich mich damit, damit nicht diese Unbeschnittenen kommen und mich erstechen und Mutwillen an mir verüben! Aber sein Waffenträger wollte nicht; denn er fürchtete sich sehr. Da nahm Saul das Schwert und stürzte sich darein.
Then said Saul to his armour-bearer—Draw thy sword and pierce me through therewith, lest these uncircumcised come, and pierce me through, and abuse me. But his armour-bearer was not willing, for he was sore afraid. So Saul took his sword and fell thereon.
5 Als nun sein Waffenträger sah, daß Saul tot war, stürzte auch er sich in sein Schwert und starb mit ihm.
And, when his armour-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he also, fell upon his sword, and died with him.
6 Also starb Saul samt seinen drei Söhnen und seinem Waffenträger und allen seinen Männern an jenem Tag.
Thus died Saul, and his three sons, and his armour-bearer, yea all his men, on that day, together.
7 Als aber die Männer von Israel, die diesseits der Ebene und diesseits des Jordans waren, sahen, daß die Männer Israels geflohen und daß Saul und seine Söhne tot waren, verließen sie die Städte und flohen auch. Da kamen die Philister und wohnten darin.
And, when the men of Israel who were across the vale, and who were across the Jordan, saw that the men of Israel had fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled, and the Philistines entered, and took up their abode therein.
8 Am folgenden Tag kamen die Philister, um die Erschlagenen auszuziehen, und fanden Saul und seine drei Söhne auf dem Gebirge Gilboa liegen.
And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul, and his three sons, lying prostrate in Mount Gilboa.
9 Da hieben sie ihm den Kopf ab und zogen ihm seine Waffenrüstung aus und sandten [Boten] in das Land der Philister ringsumher, diese frohe Botschaft im Hause ihrer Götzen und unter dem Volke zu verkündigen.
So they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, —and sent throughout the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and unto the people.
10 Und sie legten seine Waffen in das Haus der Astarte, aber seinen Leichnam hängten sie an die Mauer zu Bethsan.
And they put his armour in a house of Ashtoreths, —and, his dead body, fastened they on the wall of Beth-shan.
11 Als aber die Einwohner von Jabes in Gilead hörten, was die Philister Saul getan hatten,
And, when the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead heard concerning him, what the Philistines had done unto Saul,
12 machten sich alle streitbaren Männer auf und gingen die ganze Nacht hindurch und nahmen den Leichnam Sauls und die Leichname seiner Söhne von der Mauer zu Bethsan und brachten sie gen Jabes und verbrannten sie daselbst
then arose all the men of valour, and journeyed all the night, and took the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, from the wall of Beth-shan, —and came to Jabesh, and burned them there;
13 und nahmen ihre Gebeine und begruben sie unter der Tamariske zu Jabes und fasteten sieben Tage lang.
and took their bones, and buried them under the tamarisk-tree in Jabesh, —and fasted seven days.
