1 Samuel 14

1 Es begab sich aber eines Tages, daß Jonatan, Sauls Sohn, zu seinem Knappen, seinem Waffenträger, sprach: Komm, laß uns hinübergehen zu dem Vorposten der Philister, der dort drüben ist! Seinem Vater aber sagte er es nicht.

Now it happened one day that Jonathan, the son of Saul, said to the young man who carried his armor, "Come, let's go over to the Philistine garrison on the other side." But he did not tell his father.

2 Und Saul lag am Ende von Gibea unter einem Granatbaum, der zu Migron ist; und bei ihm waren etwa sechshundert Mann.

Now Saul stayed in the outskirts of Gibeah under the pomegranate tree by the threshing floor, and the people who were with him were about six hundred men.

3 Und Achija, der Sohn Achitubs, Ikabods Bruder, Pinehas' Sohn, des Sohnes Elis, der Priester des HERRN zu Silo, trug das Ephod. Und das Volk wußte nicht, daß Jonatan weggegangen war.

Now Ahijah was wearing an ephod. He was the son of Ahitub, the brother of Ichabod, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eli, the priest of YHWH in Shiloh. And the people did not know that Jonathan was gone.

4 Aber zwischen den Engpässen, wo Jonatan zum Vorposten der Philister hinüberzugehen suchte, waren zwei spitze Felsen, der eine diesseits, der andere jenseits; der eine hieß Bozez, der andere Sene.

Now on each side of the pass through which Jonathan intended to cross to the Philistine garrison there was a steep cliff on one side and a steep cliff on the other side. And the name of the one was Bozez, and the name of the other Seneh.

5 Die eine Zacke erhebt sich nördlich gegenüber Michmas, die andere südlich gegenüber Geba.

The one cliff was to north in front of Michmash, and the other on the south in front of Geba.

6 Und Jonatan sprach zu dem Jüngling, der seine Waffen trug: Komm, laß uns zu dem Posten dieser Unbeschnittenen hinübergehen! Vielleicht wird der HERR durch uns wirken; denn es ist dem HERRN nicht schwer, durch viele oder durch wenige zu helfen!

Then Jonathan said to the young man who carried his armor, "Come, let's go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised. It may be that YHWH will work for us, for nothing can prevent YHWH from saving by many or by a few."

7 Da antwortete ihm sein Waffenträger: Tue alles, was in deinem Herzen ist! Gehe hin, siehe, ich bin mit dir, wie dein Herz will!

His armor bearer said to him, "Do all that your heart inclines toward. Look, I am with you, my heart is as your heart."

8 Jonatan sprach: Siehe, wir werden zu den Leuten hinüberkommen, und sie werden uns bemerken.

Then Jonathan said, "Look, we will pass over to the men, and we will reveal ourselves to them.

9 Wenn sie dann zu uns sagen: «Steht stille, bis wir zu euch gelangen!» so wollen wir an unserm Ort stehenbleiben und nicht zu ihnen hinaufsteigen.

If they say thus to us, 'Wait until we come to you,' then we will stop where we are, and will not go up to them.

10 Wenn sie aber sagen: «Kommt zu uns herauf!» so wollen wir zu ihnen hinaufsteigen, denn der HERR hat sie in unsre Hand gegeben, und das soll uns zum Zeichen sein.

But if they say this, 'Come up to us,' then we will go up; for YHWH has delivered them into our hand. This shall be the sign to us."

11 Als sie nun beide von dem Posten der Philister bemerkt wurden, sprachen die Philister: Siehe, die Hebräer kommen aus den Löchern heraus, dahin sie sich verkrochen hatten!

Both of them revealed themselves to the garrison of the Philistines: and the Philistines said, "Look, the Hebrews are coming out of the holes where they had hidden themselves."

12 Und die Leute, welche auf Posten standen, riefen Jonatan und seinem Waffenträger und sprachen: Kommt herauf zu uns, so wollen wir euch etwas lehren! Da sprach Jonatan zu seinem Waffenträger: Steige mir nach; denn der HERR hat sie in Israels Hand gegeben!

The men of the garrison answered Jonathan and his armor bearer, and said, "Come up to us, and we will show you something." Jonathan said to his armor bearer, "Come up after me; for YHWH has delivered them into the hand of Israel."

13 Und Jonatan kletterte auf Händen und Füßen hinauf und sein Waffenträger ihm nach. Und jene fielen vor Jonatan, und sein Waffenträger tötete sie hinter ihm her;

Jonathan climbed up on his hands and on his feet, and his armor bearer after him. And they fell before Jonathan; and his armor bearer killed them after him.

14 so daß Jonatan und sein Waffenträger in diesem ersten Gefecht auf ungefähr einer halben Juchart Ackerland etwa zwanzig Mann erlegten.

That first slaughter which Jonathan and his armor bearer made was about twenty men, with arrows and with weapons from flints of the field.

15 Und es kam ein Schrecken in das Lager auf dem Felde und unter das ganze Volk; auch die, welche auf Posten standen und die streifenden Rotten erschraken, und das Land erbebte, und es wurde zu einem Schrecken Gottes.

And there was a terror in the camp, and in the field, and among all the people. The garrison and even the raiders were terrified. And the earth quaked, and it became a terror of God.

16 Und die Späher Sauls zu Gibea-Benjamin schauten aus und siehe, die Menge wogte hin und her.

And the watchmen of Saul in Gibeah of Benjamin saw, and look, the multitude was scattering here and there.

17 Da sprach Saul zu dem Volk, das bei ihm war: Zählet doch und sehet, wer von uns weggegangen ist! Und als sie zählten, siehe, da fehlten Jonatan und sein Waffenträger.

Then Saul said to the people who were with him, "Count now, and see who is missing from us." When they had counted, look, Jonathan and his armor bearer were not there.

18 Da sprach Saul zu Achija: Bringe die Lade Gottes herzu! Denn die Lade Gottes war zu der Zeit bei den Kindern Israel.

And Saul said to Ahijah, "Bring near the ephod," for he wore the ephod at that time before Israel.

19 Und während Saul noch mit dem Priester redete, wurde das Getümmel im Heerlager der Philister immer größer. Da sagte Saul zum Priester: Ziehe deine Hand zurück!

And it happened, while Saul was speaking to the priest, that the tumult that was in the camp of the Philistines went on and increased: and Saul said to the priest, "Withdraw your hand."

20 Und Saul und alles Volk, das mit ihm war, versammelten sich, und als sie zum Kampfe kamen, siehe, da ging eines jeden Schwert wider den andern; es herrschte die größte Verwirrung.

Saul and all the people who were with him were gathered together, and came to the battle: and look, every man's sword was against his fellow: a very great confusion.

21 Auch die Hebräer, die zuvor bei den Philistern gewesen und mit ihnen von ringsumher ins Lager hinaufgezogen waren, wandten sich zu den Israeliten, welche mit Saul und Jonatan waren.

Now the Hebrews who were with the Philistines previously when they went up with them to the camp, they too turned to be with the Israelites who were with Saul and Jonathan.

22 Und als alle Männer von Israel, die sich auf dem Gebirge Ephraim verkrochen hatten, hörten, daß die Philister flohen, schlossen sie sich jenen auch zum Kampfe an.

Likewise all the men of Israel who had hidden themselves in the hill country of Ephraim, when they heard that the Philistines fled, even they also followed closely after them in the battle.

23 Also rettete der HERR an jenem Tage Israel; und der Streit zog sich hinüber bis Beth-Aven.

So YHWH saved Israel that day, and the battle passed over by Beth Aven. And all the people with Saul were about ten thousand men. And the battle extended itself into every city in the hill country of Ephraim.

24 Aber die Männer Israels wurden an jenem Tage überangestrengt; denn Saul beschwor alles Volk und sprach: Verflucht sei der Mann, welcher Brot ißt bis zum Abend, bis ich mich an meinen Feinden gerächt habe! Da kostete niemand im Volk eine Speise.

And Saul committed a great blunder that day, for he had placed the people under an oath, saying, "Cursed is the man who eats any food until it is evening, and I am avenged of my enemies." So none of the people tasted food.

25 Und das ganze Land hatte sich mit Bienenzucht befaßt, und Bienenstöcke befanden sich auf freiem Felde.

Now all the people came upon a honeycomb, and there was honey on the ground.

26 Als nun das Volk zu den Stöcken kam, siehe, da floß der Honig; aber niemand tat von demselben mit der Hand zu seinem Munde; denn das Volk fürchtete sich vor dem Schwur.

And when the people came upon the honeycomb, look, its bees had left, but no man would raise his hand to his mouth, for the people feared the oath.

27 Jonatan aber hatte es nicht gehört, als sein Vater das Volk beschwor; und er streckte die Spitze seines Stabes aus, den er in seiner Hand hatte, und tauchte ihn in einen Honigwaben und nahm eine Handvoll in den Mund; da wurden seine Augen munter.

But Jonathan did not hear when his father commanded the people with the oath, so he put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and dipped it in the honeycomb, and raised his hand to his mouth, and his eyes brightened.

28 Aber einer aus dem Volk hob an und sprach: Dein Vater hat das Volk hoch und teuer beschworen und gesagt: Verflucht sei der Mann, der heute etwas ißt! Das Volk aber war müde.

Then one of the people answered, and said, "Your father directly commanded the people with an oath, saying, 'Cursed is the man who eats food this day.'" The people were faint.

29 Da sprach Jonatan: Mein Vater hat das Land ins Unglück gebracht! Sehet doch, wie munter meine Augen geworden sind, weil ich ein wenig von diesem Honig gekostet habe!

Then Jonathan said, "My father has troubled the land. Please look how my eyes have been enlightened, because I tasted a little of this honey.

30 Wieviel mehr, wenn das Volk heute von der Beute seiner Feinde, die es vorfand, gegessen hätte! So aber ist die Niederlage der Philister nicht groß geworden.

How much better if the people had eaten freely today of the spoil of their enemies when they found it, for the slaughter among the Philistines would have been greater."

31 Doch schlugen sie die Philister an jenem Tage von Michmas bis gen Ajalon, wiewohl das Volk sehr müde war.

They struck of the Philistines that day from Michmash to Aijalon. The people were very faint;

32 Und das Volk machte sich über die Beute her, und sie nahmen Schafe und Rinder und Kälber und schlachteten sie auf der Erde, und das Volk aß [das Fleisch] mit dem Blut.

and the people pounced upon the spoil, and took sheep, and cattle, and calves, and killed them on the ground; and the people ate them with the blood.

33 Das zeigte man aber dem Saul an und sprach: Siehe, das Volk versündigt sich am HERRN, da es mitsamt dem Blute ißt! Er sprach: Ihr habt eine Untreue begangen! Wälzet einen großen Stein zu mir her!

Then they told Saul, saying, "Look, the people are sinning against YHWH, in that they eat meat with the blood." He said, "You have dealt treacherously. Roll a large stone to me this day."

34 Und Saul sprach weiter: Zerstreuet euch unter das Volk und saget ihnen, daß jedermann seinen Ochsen und sein Schaf zu mir bringe, sie hier schlachte und dann esse, damit ihr euch mit Blutessen nicht an dem HERRN versündiget. Da brachte alles Volk, ein jeder, was er zur Hand hatte, bei Nacht herzu und schlachtete es daselbst.

And Saul said, "Disperse yourselves among the people, and say to them, 'Each one of you bring to me his ox or his sheep, and slaughter them here and eat, and do not sin against YHWH by eating with the blood.'" So everyone of the people brought whatever he had at hand with him, and slaughtered it there.

35 Und Saul baute dem HERRN einen Altar; das war der erste Altar, den er dem HERRN baute.

Saul built an altar to YHWH. This was the first altar that he built to YHWH.

36 Und Saul sprach: Laßt uns bei Nacht hinabziehen, den Philistern nach, und sie berauben, bis es heller Morgen wird, und niemand von ihnen übriglassen! Sie antworteten: Tue alles, was dir gefällt! Aber der Priester sprach: Laßt uns hier zu Gott nahen!

Saul said, "Let us go down after the Philistines by night, and take spoil among them until the morning light, and let us not leave a man of them." They said, "Do whatever seems good to you." Then the priest said, "Let us draw near here to God."

37 Und Saul fragte Gott: Soll ich hinabziehen, den Philistern nach? Willst du sie in Israels Hand geben? Aber Er antwortete ihm an jenem Tage nicht.

Saul asked counsel of God, "Shall I go down after the Philistines? Will you deliver them into the hand of Israel?" But he did not answer him that day.

38 Da sprach Saul: Es sollen alle Häupter des Volkes herzutreten und erforschen und sehen, an wem heute die Schuld liegt;

And Saul said, "Come here, all you leaders of the people; and investigate and see how this sin has arisen today.

39 denn so wahr der HERR lebt, der Israel geholfen hat, wenn sie gleich an meinem Sohne Jonatan wäre, so soll er gewiß sterben! Da antwortete ihm niemand vom ganzen Volk.

For, as YHWH lives, who saves Israel, though it is in Jonathan my son, he shall surely die." But there was not a man among all the people who answered him.

40 Und er sprach zu ganz Israel: Ihr sollt auf jene Seite treten; ich und mein Sohn Jonatan wollen auf dieser Seite sein. Das Volk sprach zu Saul: Tue, was dir gefällt!

Then he said to all Israel, "You be on one side, and I and Jonathan my son will be on the other side." The people said to Saul, "Do what seems good to you."

41 Und Saul sprach zu dem HERRN, dem Gott Israels: Tue die Wahrheit kund! Da wurden Jonatan und Saul getroffen; aber das Volk ging frei aus.

Therefore Saul said, "YHWH, God of Israel, why have you not answered your servant this day? If this sin is mine or in Jonathan my son, YHWH, God of Israel, give Urim. But if this sin is in your people Israel, give Thummim." And Jonathan and Saul were chosen, but the people were cleared.

42 Saul sprach: Werfet das Los über mich und meinen Sohn Jonatan! Da ward Jonatan getroffen.

And Saul said, "Cast lots between me and Jonathan my son. Whomever YHWH shall indicate to be taken by lot, let him die." And the people said to Saul, "This thing is not to be." And Saul prevailed over the people, and they cast lots between him and Jonathan his son. And Jonathan was selected.

43 Und Saul sprach zu Jonatan: Sage mir, was hast du getan?

Then Saul said to Jonathan, "Tell me what you have done." And Jonathan told him, and said, "I certainly did taste a little honey with the end of the staff that was in my hand; and look, I must die."

44 Jonatan sagte es ihm und sprach: Ich habe nur ein wenig Honig gekostet mit der Spitze des Stabes, den ich in meiner Hand hatte, und siehe, ich soll sterben! Da sprach Saul: Gott tue mir dies und das; Jonatan, du mußt unbedingt sterben!

And Saul said, "God do the same to me and more also if you are not put to death this day."

45 Aber das Volk sprach zu Saul: Sollte Jonatan sterben, der Israel ein so großes Heil verschafft hat? Das sei ferne! So wahr der HERR lebt, es soll kein Haar von seinem Haupt auf die Erde fallen; denn er hat an diesem Tage mit Gott gewirkt! Also erlöste das Volk den Jonatan, daß er nicht sterben mußte.

The people said to Saul, "Shall he who has worked this great salvation in Israel die today? As YHWH lives, there shall not one hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has worked with God this day." So the people rescued Jonathan, and he did not die.

46 Da zog Saul von der Verfolgung der Philister herauf, und die Philister zogen an ihren Ort.

Then Saul went up from following the Philistines; and the Philistines went to their own place.

47 Als aber Saul die Herrschaft über Israel bekommen hatte, stritt er wider alle seine Feinde ringsumher, wider die Moabiter, wider die Ammoniter, wider die Edomiter, wider die Könige von Zoba und wider die Philister; und wohin er sich wandte, da war er siegreich.

Now when Saul had taken the kingdom over Israel, he fought against all his enemies on every side, against Moab, and against the people of Ammon, and against Edom, and against Beth Rehob, and against the king of Zobah, and against the Philistines; and wherever he turned, he was victorious.

48 Und er bewies Tapferkeit und schlug die Amalekiter und errettete Israel von der Hand aller, die sie beraubten.

And he did valiantly, and struck Amalek, and delivered Israel out of the hand of its plunderers.

49 Saul aber hatte Söhne: Jonatan, Jischwi und Malkischua. Und seine zwei Töchter hießen: die erstgeborene Merab und die jüngere Michal.

Now the sons of Saul were Jonathan, and Jishvi, and Malkishua; and the names of his two daughters were these: the name of the firstborn Merob, and the name of the younger Mikal:

50 Und das Weib Sauls hieß Achinoam [und war] eine Tochter des Ahimaaz. Und sein Feldhauptmann hieß Abner, ein Sohn Ners, Sauls Oheim.

and the name of Saul's wife was Ahinoam the daughter of Ahimaaz. The name of the commander of his army was Abiner the son of Ner, Saul's uncle.

51 Kis aber war Sauls Vater; Ner aber, Abners Vater, war ein Sohn Abiels.

Kish was the father of Saul; and Ner the father of Abner was the son of Abiel.

52 Und solange Saul lebte, war ein harter Streit wider die Philister. Darum, wo Saul einen starken und tapfern Mann sah, da zog er ihn zu sich.

There was severe war against the Philistines all the days of Saul: and when Saul saw any mighty man, or any valiant man, he took him to him.
