1 Als nun die Königsherrschaft in Salomos Hand befestigt war, verschwägerte sich Salomo mit dem Pharao, dem König von Ägypten, und nahm die Tochter des Pharao und brachte sie in die Stadt Davids, bis er sein Haus und das Haus des HERRN und die Mauern um Jerusalem her fertiggebaut hatte.
And Solomon made affinity with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh's daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had made an end of building his own house, and the house of the LORD, and the wall of Jerusalem on every side.
2 Nur opferte das Volk noch auf den Höhen; denn dem Namen des HERRN war noch kein Haus gebaut bis auf jene Zeit.
Only the people sacrificed in high places, because there was no house built to the name of the LORD, until those days.
3 Salomo aber liebte den HERRN, so daß er in den Satzungen seines Vaters David wandelte; nur opferte und räucherte er auf den Höhen.
And Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father: only he sacrificed and burnt incense in high places.
4 Und der König ging nach Gibeon, um daselbst zu opfern; denn das war die bedeutendste Höhe. Und Salomo opferte tausend Brandopfer auf jenem Altar.
And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that [was] the great high place: a thousand burnt-offerings did Solomon offer upon that altar.
5 Zu Gibeon erschien der HERR dem Salomo des Nachts im Traume. Und Gott sprach: Bitte, was ich dir geben soll!
In Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream by night: and God said, Ask what I shall give thee.
6 Salomo sprach: Du hast deinem Knechte, meinem Vater David, große Gnade erwiesen, wie er denn vor dir gewandelt ist in Wahrheit und Gerechtigkeit und mit aufrichtigem Herzen gegen dich, und du hast ihm diese große Gnade bewahrt und ihm einen Sohn gegeben, der heute auf seinem Throne sitzt.
And Solomon said, Thou hast shown to thy servant David my father great mercy, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great kindness, that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as [it is] this day.
7 Weil nun du, o HERR, mein Gott, deinen Knecht an meines Vaters David Statt zum König gemacht hast, ich aber ein junger Knabe bin, der weder ein noch auszugehen weiß;
And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father: and I [am but] a little child: I know not how to go out or come in.
8 und weil dein Knecht mitten unter deinem Volke ist, das du erwählt hast, welches so groß ist, daß es niemand zählen noch vor Menge berechnen kann;
And thy servant [is] in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
9 so wollest du deinem Knecht ein verständiges Herz geben, daß er dein Volk zu richten wisse und unterscheiden könne, was gut und böse ist. Denn wer vermag dieses dein ansehnliches Volk zu richten?
Give therefore to thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
10 Das gefiel dem HERRN wohl, daß Salomo um solches bat.
And the speech pleased the LORD, that Solomon had asked this thing.
11 Und Gott sprach zu ihm: Weil du um solches bittest, und bittest nicht um Reichtum und bittest nicht um das Leben deiner Feinde, sondern bittest um Verstand zur Rechtspflege,
And God said to him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thy enemies: but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;
12 siehe, so habe ich nach deinen Worten getan. Siehe, ich habe dir ein weises und verständiges Herz gegeben, daß deinesgleichen vor dir nicht gewesen ist und auch nach dir nicht aufkommen wird;
Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there hath been none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like to thee.
13 dazu habe ich dir auch gegeben, was du nicht gebeten hast, Reichtum und Ehre, daß deinesgleichen nicht sein soll unter den Königen dein ganzes Leben lang.
And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honor: so that there shall not be any among the kings like to thee all thy days,
14 Und so du in meinen Wegen wandeln wirst, daß du meine Satzungen und Gebote beobachtest, wie dein Vater David gewandelt ist, so will ich dir ein langes Leben geben!
And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will lengthen thy days.
15 Und als Salomo erwachte, siehe, da war es ein Traum. Als er nun nach Jerusalem kam, trat er vor die Bundeslade des HERRN und opferte Brandopfer und Dankopfer und machte allen seinen Knechten ein Mahl.
And Solomon awoke; and behold, [it was] a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and offered up burnt-offerings, and offered peace-offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.
16 Zu der Zeit kamen zwei Dirnen zum König und traten vor ihn.
Then came there two women, [that were] harlots, to the king, and stood before him.
17 Und das eine Weib sprach: Ach, mein Herr, ich und dieses Weib wohnten in einem Hause, und ich gebar bei ihr im Hause;
And the one woman said, O my lord, I and this woman dwell in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house.
18 und drei Tage, nachdem ich geboren hatte, gebar sie auch. Und wir waren beieinander, und kein Fremder war mit uns im Hause, nur wir beide waren im Hause.
And it came to pass the third day after I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also: and we [were] together; [there was] no stranger with us in the house, save us two in the house.
19 Und der Sohn dieses Weibes starb in der Nacht; denn sie hatte ihn im Schlafe erdrückt.
And this woman's child died in the night; because she overlaid it.
20 Und sie stand mitten in der Nacht auf und nahm meinen Sohn von meiner Seite, als deine Magd schlief, und legte ihn an ihren Busen, und ihren toten Sohn legte sie an meinen Busen.
And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thy handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom.
21 Und als ich am Morgen aufstand, meinen Sohn zu säugen, siehe, da war er tot! Aber am Morgen sah ich ihn genau an und siehe, es war nicht mein Sohn, den ich geboren hatte.
And when I rose in the morning to nurse my child, behold, it was dead: but when I had considered it in the morning, behold, it was not my son, which I bore.
22 Das andere Weib sprach: Nicht also, sondern mein Sohn lebt, und dein Sohn ist tot! Jene aber sprach: Nicht also, dein Sohn ist tot und mein Sohn lebt! Also redeten sie vor dem König.
And the other woman said, No; but the living [is] my son, and the dead [is] thy son. And this said, No; but the dead [is] thy son, and the living [is] my son. Thus they spoke before the king.
23 Und der König sprach: Diese spricht: Der Sohn, der lebt, ist mein Sohn, und dein Sohn ist tot! Jene spricht: Nicht also, dein Sohn ist tot, und mein Sohn lebt!
Then said the king, The one saith, This [is] my son that liveth, and thy son [is] the dead; and the other saith, No; but thy son [is] the dead, and my son [is] the living.
24 Da sprach der König: Bringet mir ein Schwert! Und als das Schwert vor den König gebracht ward,
And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king.
25 sprach der König: Zerschneide das lebendige Kind in zwei Teile und gebt dieser die eine Hälfte und jener die andere Hälfte!
And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other.
26 Da sprach die Frau, welchem der lebendige Sohn gehörte, zum König (denn ihr Erbarmen über ihren Sohn regte sich in ihr) und sagte: Bitte, mein Herr, gebt ihr das lebendige Kind und tötet es nicht! Jene aber sprach: Es sei weder mein noch dein; teilet es!
Then spoke the woman whose the living child [was] to the king, for her bowels yearned upon her son, and she said, O my lord, give her the living child, and in no wise slay it. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine, [but] divide [it].
27 Da antwortete der König und sprach: Gebt dieser das lebendige Kind und tötet es nicht! Sie ist seine Mutter!
Then the king answered and said, Give her the living child, and in no wise slay it: she [is] the mother of it.
28 Als nun ganz Israel vernahm, was für ein Urteil der König gefällt hatte, fürchteten sie sich vor dem König; denn sie sahen, daß die Weisheit Gottes in seinem Herzen war, um Recht zu schaffen.
And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king: for they saw that the wisdom of God [was] in him, to do judgment.
